Overtraining: when you have a garage gym and are bored out of your mind during quarantine so you lift every day until you crash hard after a couple weeks.
12:00 Lol I think this was a reference to WSM 1990 where they had a 200 meter weighted sprint. This event is considered by many as the dumbest event in WSM history.
Regarding the over training subject, I would throw rhabdomyolysis in with over training, which can easily be gotten by anyone that hasn’t done much for a while and jumps back in too quick especially while being under hydrated. I’m a nurse in the army and so many basic trainees get rhabdo from being sedentary before the army and just normal army PT will give it to them, or from Ruck marches. Also we get a lot of people that do CrossFit (for some reason) with rhabdo especially if they’ve taken a decent bit of time off for whatever reason
Solid video! great yarns had this is the environment more gyms need, also I wish there was a gym like this where I am the equipment and the music I'd be right at home great tunes
When you mentioned overtraining I agree that not many are, but I was hoping that you would have asked about insufficient recovery. Sometimes we don't give ourselves time to recover fully, just my own thoughts
Couple of us ohio boys are excited for your competition joey. My friend in your weight class really wants to compete with you and pick your brain some.
Long winded Question. As someone who wants to train in all strength sports but realizes that prioritization is key for best progress, do you HAVE to keep all strength sports into your program and adjust frequency to maintain strength/skill Example: powerlifting focused - bench 2-3x - squat 2-3x - Deadlift 1-2x - Snatch 1x - C & J 1x Example: Weightlifting Focus - Snatch 2-3x - C & J 2-3x - Squat 1-2x - Bench 1x -deadlift 1x Or can you do blocks where you maybe don’t bench or snatch and after a while do a phase dedicated to those lifts and regain/build strength? This is coming from the perspective an elite strength athlete who wants to be a high level in both, not the average lifter who wants to get strong, but not at a national+ level I guess to better phrase it: Joey, when you picked up Olympic lifting again, how long was it until you got back to your old level of strength? Or did the strength of strongman carryover thus providing time to dedicate blocks to specific modalities and not the other can prove to be beneficial. Sorry if this is confusing and great video as always coach!
I'm going to echo what Joey said about Olympic weightlifters and strength blocks. It's really easy to get tunnel vision working on technique, and progress stalls.
Yo guys coach Joe dude that was an awesome video man that footage was sick dude that yoke walk holy shit man props gentlemen Joey nice form on those deadlifts I see Dr Mikes' form in your lifts Alan your gym is awesome man very nice well equipt that's good shit gentlemen!!💪👍👌👏🖖😎
Any tips on front squatting without choking myself? I sometimes have to cut the set short because I'm out of breath and not because my legs are done, and I wouldn't say it's a conditioning problem cause i do plenty of conditioning work.
Basically it’s general fitness. So doing bodybuilding work like incline dB press isn’t ultra specific to a flag bench, but it can work on creating more muscle and strength to thus help the main lifts
Basically, you’re creating a wide base of general conditioning so you can increase your working capacity therefore giving you the ability to lift more weight and not Be exhausted.
I first read the title and wondered what are "signs of deadlift" and "signs of overhead press" until I realized the word signs only pertained to overtraining.
Got a question for you. When I pull a heavy deadlift and brace as hard as I can, I sometimes have some breath knocked out of me right as I pull. Is there a protocol or exercise that can help stop this?
Only thing I could think of is your not doing the valsalva maneuver when getting ready to pull. You almost want to hold your breath and create maximum tension in your body when you lift and exhale at the top of the movement
yeah most ppl are "under-recovered" not "over-trained". meaning their sleep, diet, stress mitigation needs to improve. if you are over training then your program/split/routine is just sub optimal.
Why is that guy looking at your butt like that and saying oh yeah and leaned over to look at it 2 funny nice gym good to see you Allen n Szat..do more collab..
I am a 57 year old male, I have been lifting weights for 40 years as a natural lifter, a doctor told me that if I want to live for at least another 10 years, to stop lifting and do cv work instead.
Plot twist, Alan Thrall shaves beard and it turns out he has skipped neck day for the last twenty years. Jk his neck is probably thicker than my quads.
Had a blast with Alan as usual, if you have any other questions comment below and I'll go through and answer them!
Come back, Joe
He won't I guess❤️
Alan, after having watched your video on building your gym from the ground up, it's pretty impressive to see all of that gear. Well done.
You both should do a video with juji
@@scooobyj8714 eric?
Zydrunas Savickas has done both. 1100 and 500. The deadlift was on hummer tires, but the fact he's done both is goat status.
GOAT
I love when I can hear songs from my playlist in these videos
Overtraining: when you have a garage gym and are bored out of your mind during quarantine so you lift every day until you crash hard after a couple weeks.
so damn true.
I’ve don’t the shit outta this in 2020
If you're bored out of your mind it sounds like you have the time to eat and sleep more too!
I limit my lifting to four days a week for this very reason. Sometimes a fifth day is tempting, but I go run or bike instead.
I swear every time there’s a wide shot of Alan’s gym there’s a piece of equipment I see and want. My wallet is crying XD
hes got it all!!!
Lovin this collab and the Helloween playing in the background.
thanks so much
That is an interesting way to do a front squat, never thought of using straps in that manner.
yes great when your mobility isn't there

Two genuine dudes doing good things. Enjoying the content, as always. Y’all keep it up 👍🏻

Hey your Trenning right now on youtube.

Both of y’all’s form starting at 1:45 looked amazing by the way! Keep up the amazing content!
When Joe picked up the fucking yoke I haven't laughed that fucking hard in so long lmfao nothing but love, its just that the "OH GOD" messed me up
Both of you guys are so informative. I’ve learned so much watching your channels and appreciate all the free info
Always appreciate hearing some Pantera. I've never been at a gym that plays decent music.
What, you don’t like Greta Van Fleet playing on repeat and would rather listen to the greatest metal band of all time? Geez, cmon!
YASSSS a new upload at last. Can't wait to watch! Love your content dude

Alan: use a trap bar
Rip: shrieking uncontrollably
“MOVEMENT IN THE SAGITTAL PLANE”
We said it was useless, why aren't you just doing what you're told?!
Another way of saying "over stressed" could be "under rested" I think. Could give a new aspect that some might not have considered yet!
yes I would agree

6:25 That looks suspiciously like a Mike Israetel SLDL, wonder why
That elitefts bench bar is the best bench bar in existence. The camber and angle of the handles is just perfect.
"Alan reminds me of a woman with a beard"- some guy

thank you!
Glad I’m not the only one who deadlifts in lifters.
Joe why don't you ever use clips one the bar???? It would drive me nuts to have the weights moving around like that!
I'm going to echo what Joey said about Olympic weightlifters and strength blocks. It's really easy to get tunnel vision working on technique, and progress stalls.
couldn't agree more
Anyone know the song at 16:52? Sounds like Chad from Mudvayne/Hellyeah.
Another good video guys!
Hellyeah Moth
Great video, lots of good thoughts from gym owners
thank you!
I know I’m over trained when I start to dread lifting and I’m not eating or hungry like I should normally be. Don’t know how it is for anyone else
Same here, it's as much psychological burnout as physical. Instead of a mental destress it becomes just more stress.
Listening to Alan Thrall on overtraining is like listening to Mark Rippetoe on the trap bar.
