- Fishing streamers is not always casting large flies in deep water and heavy cover with a sinking fly line. Sometimes streamer flies are effective in shallow riffles and edges, especially when you use smaller flies and a floating line. Dave Jensen walks you through how to go about using a short line to prospect a riffle with your streamer.
*I already own the Battle II combo **enjoyable.fishing** recommend and decided to try a Fierce II combo to carry out to the pier. Works great and for the money they are hard to beat.*
Always fish the shallow water first surprising how shallow large trout or steelhead can be. Great video
I love fishing steamers upstream. works great in small streams or in your case, targeting a specific lane.
sure it does! in the summer my rig is, floating line, 9' tapered fluorocarbon and lightly weighted streamer. often i use micro version of woolybugger on hooks no. 8-10
sounds money. how much do you weight your buggers?
You guys are so cool I really want learn how to fly fish!!!!
Great video and tips. Thanks Orvis
I fish the Bow River in Banff Alberta and the river is pretty tough to read. It's fast in most spots but I think your video is going to be really helpful....
I think the flow really matters. I've had times where I can get a streamer pretty deep by just putting on a really long tippet. But I've also been on rivers where the current just does not allow it to sink. So I was considering going having intermediate or sink on my second reel.
How we sink Kebari on Tenkara. Cast in front of a rock in the water. Let fly dead drift. As it goes around the rock. It will get sucked under and presented to the fish.
Fredrick Rourk that sounds brilliant for the small streams I fish here in the Catskills.
I love your videos, very helpful
Man I wish I had a place like that to fish near me.
What do you think about a sink tip furled leaders??
Thanks great video!!
Fly fishing,cool.
It would have never occurred to me to cast upstream with a streamer. In fact you didn’t catch a fish on your way up which proves my point. Even if you had had a strike, it would have been difficult to feel the fish. There’s no better way to streamer-fish than to swing your fly across and down.
Learned to do this when I was 9. They got everything on RUclips.

You need Japanese Keiryu Yarn Strike Detectors. I recommend Owner Brand.

Do you have any starters for uptown ny and Maine?
What kind of "starters" are you looking for? Flies? Equipment? You may want to look at the Encounter 9 foot 5 weight outfit on our web site.
The Orvis Company flies
In NY there is a Orvis Factory Store!
Mini CoopYt go to a fly shop or an ll bean and ask some questions there
Well, wearing a bright orange shirt may not be good. But yes, streamers fill the gap. Also, the beaten up one is, sometimes better. Fishing water out West that other people cant also helps.
