Well done Amy, you beautifully laid out the different levels and aspect of human being. As an INFJ who is easily twice your age, you must realize that the souls journey through the material realm is long, fraught with emotion, and is never completed. At 68 I am in the most creative portion of my life, and I have no thought of slowing down, ever. Fortunately for you Amy you are a lot closer to finding your true self than I was at your age. But then there is no way you could have endured what I did and not be adversely affected for the entirety of your life on earth. Great job Amy, thank you.

They say your vibe attracts your tribe. As an INFJ it’s a struggle to attract the right people because of the chameleon effect. Would you agree? Also deciding on one coherent “vibe” is hard because like you said we are so complex! Wheww 🙆🏾‍♀️😆

    Ty Amy.
Knowing what people want to hear in any given situation is probably a curse for INFJ's.
I was always interacting to please others, unless I had a strong dislike to someone.
Now, I don't really care if they're offended or dislike my opinions. I realized you can't please everyone, so why try to please anyone.
Discovering I'm INFJ has freed me from self persecution. So now I don't feel as bad when I upset the IDIOTS.
If that makes me an A-HOLE, than so be it. At least, I'm not an Idiot.
Thanks again Amy, I hope you're having a good day. If not, YOU can call me an IDIOT, if it would make you smile.
    Love that smile.
    Have a good one, Danny.

I'm on the beach, everyone's relaxing on the sand. I go into the water, everyone's paddling around, having fun. I dive down and think "There's so much life down here, so many things I've never seen before. How can everyone else be just content to splash around on the surface with things they've seen 100 times before, don't they want to explore?"
I dive down deeper. It hurts to hold my breath for so long but the deeper I dive, the more I find. I think, "This is life! Why is no one else living?"
But the deeper I go, the lonelier I get. And I start to wonder, "Where's the bottom? Is there anyone else here? How deep am I going to swim? How deep will I have to go to be happy? Can't I just be happy swimming in the sun like everyone else if I'm always going to be alone down here?"
I go back up. Try it for a while - staying on the surface, smiling, laughing. But the smiles are not real, the laughs are not real. Are everyone else's really real? I can't work it out.
I start swimming deep again, in awe of everything I see - but it's dark, it hurts me, and I'm alone.
Then I find out I'm an INFJ and it all starts to make sense. I'm not the only one down here. This is who I am. This is what I want to do. And every so often, I'll find someone else swimming around down here and we'll mind-read each other's thoughts that say, "This is all worth it".
I wonder at what point I am.

Yes, facing our own reality of imperfections is difficult, we have a persona that the ego presents to itself, and thinks it presents to others, but like the famous Scottish saying, "Oh what a blessing it would be to see ourselves as others see us!". To thy own-self be true...
Never did the "shadow work" but maybe the years of meditation may have a similar affect on the Self awareness?
Thanks for the video, gives me something to research.

We can understand great truths because we are good at putting the piece of the puzzle together.
But in relationships with our family. We bumble when questioned impromptu. Our intelligence is judged based on our speaking skills, accomplishments, how well the outside of the cup is decorated, maintained, and polished. How confident we are. We struggle with and ignore social norms we see no logical reason for. We withdraw because we perceive others are not on our wavelength, are not understanding us as we are wishing. In summary, our relationships are not up to par not because of any moral defect but more because of communication failures. Some of those failures are because the social norms are easier to do when using other cognitive functions than we normally use.

    • @amy-lyne
      @amy-lyne  2 года назад +1

Good points here. The INFJ can also see beyond "social norms" in a way that might unnerve people in all the right ways. "Morality" (good vs evil) in this case would be very different from the perceived "devil who masquerades in light". Lots of philosophical complexities there 🤔. I've experienced both cases in my life. Some where I've been "the devil" who couldn't see the harm I was causing, and some as the reformer going against the grain who other people didn't understand. Great comment 👍

Do you like or listen to Alan Watts by chance? He's a lot in ways like Carl J and I've read that Alan Watts held very high intellectual admiration for him and as well studied and learned a lot from Carl J as he was younger and during his growth. His lectures and his incredibly profound vast knowledge of the English vocabulary just blows my mind. I've not read as much as I should and have planned of Carl's higher plain of true and almost impossible to comprehend human understanding but I've read enough to know Carl Jung had a mind that seemingly to not be of this world. Anyways I was curious if you liked and listen to Alan Watts. He captivates my mind like no other. Take care.

He speaks on quite many areas or topics but his unbelievable or almost hard to comprehend viewpoints about life to include quite a bit about polarities and dualities are mind blowing. I was just curious if you were blown away as well of some of his lectures. If you do find some time to listen to some of his many talks, I would be very curious of your thoughts. One other hard to believe fact about him is his incredible and seemingly to no end knowledge of the English root vocabulary that boggles the mind. Hope you are doing well and thanks for your reply. Hello Amy! nice hearing from you again (as I've seen you have been posting new content on your channel as of recent.)! I only saw this video just now after seeing that you posted this video about 2 years ago.
Have you read about the meaning of each tarot card? In the video I saw you reference "The Fool" and the Hero's Journey, which sort of seemingly relates to what was stated in the video. Funny how in tarot I picked a favorite card before even reading about what each of them meant and I picked "The Fool" as my favorite because I've always felt that I was the fool in most of the circles I place myself in. There's a sense of wonder for the world and discovery that I feel like I'm privy to that not a lot of people have in common with me which places me at odds with most of the people I interact with in life. I never even considered this as a negative side note but I've learned to embrace placing myself amongst groups of people whom I deem smarter than myself, as I've learned to embrace this aspect of my life. I've read before that Carl Jung approached tarot card as a gateway to unlock the collective unconscious not in a spiritual lens but as a guide into how a person could connect with certain images and meaning based on the tarot card in question which could act as a guideline into what's currently in their subconscious mind to bring to the surface. I hope you get as much pleasure as I did in reading about the card's meanings as I did as it was a fun little side read. Nevertheless, I'm not a tarot card reader or wholly believe in speaking with spiritual ghosts or supreme beings thru them.. but I've kept an open mind going in to it into all of this. It's quite interesting.

@michaelchua2859 hey Michael! Great to see you on here again and your thoughtful comments as always. Yes, I do know about tarot! I spent some time studying the cards as well! I believe they are misused in spiritual communities and are not used for their original intent. I believe they are for growth and bringing things out of your subconscious just as you described. Love your words here. It's absolutely true and I love the Fool card. The curious one always open to a world of wonder. Thank you for these thoughts 🦋

Hi Amy , i think you did a great job explaining the archetypes of self development. A lot of us INFJs want to be seen as perfect and show that we have it all together , but then fail to realize that embracing our weakness and our flaws are part of us; the very thing we try to deny. It can take a whole life time for one to experience the wholeness as described by Carl Jung. Wholeness can only be achieved when one is willing to die in the truth and acceptance and respect for all of reality. Life is filled with disappointments but we need to accept that and not let that allow us to keep us down as we must give life a shot and respect our limitations.

Every time I spent time in my shadow, get caught in a ni- ti loop, or go through an extreme experience (death of a family member, something emotional, or legitimately fighting for your life). When I recover & step back into the light it's like I'm no longer the same person. Example last year I injured both hips, upper legs, lower back, & even part of my abdomen at the same time. After 5 months & 5 weeks of physical therapy I'm some what healed, but more importantly I'm humble. I learned the hard way I'm getting old & need to take it easy, I used to be very stubborn.

I'm not sure about my type but there are some things with regards to infj that I relate to, one of them being the social chameleon behavior pattern. Growing up it was an uncontrolled ability, it was more of a automatic response, a coping mechanism of navigating life in a way that I "believed"(unaware at the time) was the best way to gain influence, friends, to gain success, to handle conflicts, to survive etc. And in a lot of ways it is a successful strategy, if you're good at it. But then you start to become aware of that you're doing it, it starts to annoy you, maybe you even begin to resent it. So you start to counteract it with the opposite strategy, because you know there's a lot more to you, a more authentic self, and in a way you've always known, when being in solitude, because that's when you can hear your true self, if you dare to remain in silence and listen. And so the shadow work has begun..
But it's not been a black or white thing for me, authentic or inauthentic. Its more like measured in percent, for example 30 % authentic 70 % inauthentic. I think the social chameleon thing is great when it's at least fairly controlled and it's used for good. It can be hard to gain complete control though I think with regards to the mirror neurons, when they kick in and if they are strong, then you know the chameleon is taking over the steering wheel.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I'm gonna be checking out some more of your videos. Seems highly interesting :)

@@amy-lyne Thank you! 🙏 Yes aren't we made of opposites? Or at least we have the potential for it. I don't think anyone consists only of light, there's darkness in everyone. And in both light and darkness there's great power but different kinds, and when combined it gives wholeness of character. And when I say darkness I don't necessarily mean something evil because it's darkness accompanied by light, but I think you know that. Do you want to expand some on what resonated with you with regards to opposite polarities? I'm curious 🙂

I figure the anima animus thing is kinda what anime cartoons various attempts at whimsical ideal forms and archetypes is about
The toons are atleast some sort of vector for malwares of the base code... and also hair metal music vids. Sabotaged.
There's a culture bias aspect to fundamental attribution error which talks a bit about collectivist vs individualist paradigms and I think maybe some of what got us here was trying to hap hazardly roll a huge snowball through rocks or dog poop.. not that either is inherently the snowball, it would be relative...
Anyway, don't be a hippy too much in general I guess is the plan, and semiotics can be cool.. but don't do memes hallucinogens or cartoons or porn or incommensurable paradigms. That's the plan

"unlocking the unconscious" seems to resonate with the shamanic experience, too, especially when the death of the ego is involved: I fell into it, when I realized that my objectives and wishes for life were coined by society, education and work, but do not match with my core values. But when you get at odds with society as a whole, FE has a hard time. Long process on the lookout for the real tribe, the real life, thats not part of Western societies fun fair. It's great that you resort to Carl Jung, the original source for MBTI: maybe you want to present your favourite books, by Jung, once, in a video.

Hi. Amy. I previously asked you about the meaning of the number 3 and three women. and my question was kind of vague. I should have written the number is actually three witches, that I have dreamed of. the dream was in the 1600s and later another dream, but more current to date. but just lately I received a E- mail from 3 witches wanting to meet me. I have shortened the story a bit, but the principal question is there for you if you can help me, if you can find the meaning.

    • @amy-lyne
      @amy-lyne  2 года назад

Hi marcelino, interesting inquiry. Like I mention in my video, Carl Jung believed everything in your internal world gets projected out onto your external world in some way. Your interpretation of the number 3 and the witches has a subjective element to it so I cannot "interpret" it for you. I'll say, this world is often not as cryptic as we make it out to be. Love speaks in the language of clarity. You should not have to "read meaning" into much of anything. I believe self-inquiry is always the way to go. A question to ask yourself might be "what do I want it to mean?" (If anything).

Some amazing info here! I had to chime in with how my identity development happened. I can remember always having a strong feeling of my core which is who I am. The “who I am” couldn’t be properly defined because as with everything else we process it’s intuitive and takes on feelings instead of words, also in this case we are so different from others that we can’t really identify our ways with anyone around us to define it. But after a while of observing people I wanted to fit in, I felt I understood enough about people to know how to act and be reasonable. That required an ability to change my persona to match the room so to speak. To the outsider we will just look like we’re not sure of ourselves and have no identity. But for me I found doing this allowed me to mingle with vastly different groups of people and learn how human behaviour all ties together. Finding myself was really just finding the right words to describe it. Learning about MBTI and Carl Jung’s theories was the turning point for me. It was the words that tied this seemingly undefined fire within to reality. To understand there are others even if so few that exist and share some of the strange ways I define with. With my work even now I still have to play a bit of the chameleon to get things done but I’m far more relaxed than when I was a kid in just being myself and putting up my boundaries. I think boundaries are what we take a long time to develop because we’re more looking to please others from the start. Self development is an ongoing process we all should be aware of. Amazing content Amy! Keep going please 🙏🏽

I am an ENFP who recently had to end a friendship with an INFJ; someone who I loved to bits and thought was the most incredibly person I have ever met in my life.
Despite knowing me very very well and knowing how much she meant to me, she persisted with a strong privacy complex along with doing her social chameleon thing. What this meant was that despite being friends with her for years and years, I knew next to nothing about her. And I found the whole experience to be emotionally painful and deeply tragic.

I am an ENFP and quite different to you INFJs as I am very open, wear my heart on my sleeve and am often more extroverted. Nevertheless, even us ENFPs have our limits and I found myself giving more and more of myself to my friend in the hope she would open up. But she never did. After years of constantly trying, I ended the friendship to save myself from further pain and felt awful doing so.

Therefore, as someone who loved an INFJ, I just want to give you all a warning: your INFJ social chameleon tendencies can get you into trouble with people who genuinely love you and want to get to know the real you.
By constantly telling me what I wanted to hear - as opposed to what were her true feelings, thoughts, opinions and interests - I never got to know my friend. And, us ENFPs need to know the heart and soul of our friends. In fact, she was more of a stranger to me after years of so-called friendship than when we first met.

Also, I never knew where I was with her. Instead of her social chameleon persona putting me at ease, overtime I realised that what she said to me never married up to her actions. Not only did it make her seem false but at one point I thought she was a liar. And because she acted differently with people (our other friends) she would often contradict herself.
    So, who was she?

I just can’t understand why she had to be so closed-off, emotionally guarded and private with me when I thought she was utterly amazing, talented, fascinating and, without doubt, the most beautiful person I have ever met. She broke my heart.

Wow, it feels so long ago since I published that post. Since then two things have happened.
Firstly, I got in contact with my INFJ friend again. She was always on my mind and I felt guilty about the way things ended. It was my big wish to fix everything and to have her in my life as a friend. So, I messaged her out of the blue around the time of my birthday, about two years ago. At first, everything was great. She was back in my life again and we were on good terms. Great! Then I sent her a message “how can I get to know you better?”, I continued with -“What is your favourite album of all time? What does your dad do as a job? What were you like a school?” Nothing wild considering I knew this girl then for 6-7 years. We used to work together hence the connection. She replied by saying “This is all too much. I only open to people that I have known for a long time.” Well, how much is a long time because to me 6 years is a long time? Does this mean she would’ve finally opened up to me after 10 or 20 years of me consistently trying? I couldn’t deal with her reply. So, I sent her a reply out of anger - told her we were never friends because I hardly knew her. “Friends”, I wrote, “are people who share thoughts, feelings, interests and life stories” - things that she never did. And, then I blocked her. I didn’t want anything to do with her after that.
Earlier this year, I met up with my old friends and the subject of our INFJ friend came up. She left our old company to go home to her old town. Quite far away. Things didn’t work out with her new job and her mum got sick. Things got intense, I believe she had a hard time and then she vanished. She cut all connections and ties with our friends. Nobody knows where she is or what she is doing. Nothing on the internet. She is well and truly gone.
According to my mates, nobody knew her. Perhaps, I knew her more than most which is ironic. But she broke all my friend’s hearts by disappearing into the void. A very sad end to my story.
So who was she? Well, this leads to my second update, I’ve since studied the enneagram by someone who used to teach it professionally. So, no surprise - I’m a type 7 which is typical for an ENFP. But my friend… I believe she was a type 5 (wing 4) hence her inability to trust anyone with her inner world and feelings. She was a low version of herself hence her insecurities and issues. Also, I complained that I knew nothing about her; I don’t think she knew herself either.
Lastly, she might not have been an INFJ. I’ve since made friends with ‘real’ INFJs and they’re all incredible people. I actually know their favourite bands and where they go on holiday etc. I actually now have an INFJ as a best mate now, which is super cool. And, I now think my friend was perhaps more an INTJ which would fit with her enneagram.
That is it. I still think of that girl, I hope she is okay whatever she is doing with her life now. I really did love her and for so long. I’ve since moved on but I do look back on those years, and my ‘friend’, with real sadness.
