I've been recommending new pilots to start with the Mini 2, but with the new release of the new affordable DJI Mini 3, this might be the best bang for buck for those new to the drone space. DJI Recently released a most robust Mini 3 Pro, packed with obstacle avoidance, follow me functions and intelligent modes. But if you don't need those more advanced features, the new Mini 3 still has that new camera, gimbal, vertical shooting, large aperture and most importantly insane flight time.

Thanks for the info. I an upgrading from a Spark to Mini3. After watching a Mini2 in action, impressed with longer flight time. Doing mostly still vacation photos selling point was camera looks up and flight time.

I noticed that when the Mini 3/Mini3Pro videos were side by side of that tall building doing an orbit...the Mini3Pro video looked brighter and more saturated...not sure if there was a time or weather difference between the 2 videos during recording. Still though, the Mini3 video was pretty good

Mini 2 owner here. While I love the idea of a M3 or M3P, I will wait until the SDK is published so Litchi and Maven can fully function on a more expensive drone.
Good for DJI in continually improving their product line - pretty cool stuff. There is some scuttlebutt that suggests DJI will not be releasing a SDK for the M3P. Hope that is not the case.
I went to a mini 3 from an original Air my god what a difference. Just miss the collision detection a little.
I wish I could have one of these insane drone.
I wish I could become a drone technician like and my wish this season is to get a drone but my parent don't have the money.
If you use the controller that connects to your smartphone you can get better cell service the higher the drone gets.

If this Mini 3 uses Ocusync2 just like the Mini 2, then maybe DJI will open up the RC Controller to the Mini 2. Do you think that might happen?
Cheaper but the features are very much like that of the Mini 3 Pro!
The main feature if Love for a small compact drone for travel and adventures is the active track which is why I sold my mini 2 and looking to get the mini3 Pro so I always bummed out when it was not included…I have to r Air2s for most of my drone shots ..but it’s too big for my mountain biking so I’m still leaning on the mini3 pro or wait for a mini 4 pro or mini 4 with active track and bigger sensor ..

Why do you like the RC Controller over the standard controller with a cell phone? I have a Samsung Galaxy S22+ - it has a larger screen. It has a brighter screen. I can run other apps on it like Litchi. Is is simply the time saved connected the phone to the controller?

Very nice, but I'm wondering if DJI is oversaturating the market. This is like the 4th or 5th model out this year. And with Mini 1, 2 and 2s clogging the second hand market is this going to blow up on DJI?

What happened with Mini 2... Main selling point of Mini 3 is the vertical camera but I wouln't pay half the price just for that.
Agree : Actually the top price of mini 2 ( Combo ) is 600 USD , While for the new Mini 3 ( Combo ) is 858 USD !!!
Bigger sensor with better image quality. But at this price point it should have at least front optical sensors imho.

I still think the mini 2 is the top beginner drone.
I didn't think they were going to gate keep the frame rates and dcine. without those options this is mostly just a sensor and lens upgrade. I know it's objectively better in other things as well like flight noise and flight time but I don't value those very highly for a new pilot who's still learning imo.
Dont know I chose it for the flight time so... Granted the drone i had before this could only fly for about ten minutes lol. and the video was garbage and would drop out after 200ft

Compared to the Mini's original market, the Mini 3 and pro version are far over-priced for this series. Typical buyers of this category were never looking for these advanced cameras and features, but rather a solid machine with low running costs below 250g.
Their main idea to offer an affordable top quality drone that did not require registration was brilliant. Crash one of these new Mini 3's and you will be out $1k- not cheap. Batteries and insurance costs more, too.
Once again, DJI has shown their greed by offering machines that are twice the original price of the concept. I actually expected this.
No thanks, I'll pick up a nice cheap Mini 2 at most. For the money, they are mini work horses at 1/3 the cost.

Mini 3 supports HDR video with 30fps. But I don't have any info for the Mini 3 Pro.

No. But the smaller size is really nice
The sensor size is not slightly larger though. It goes from a 6.16x4.62=28.46mm^2 size sensor to a 10x7.5=75mm^2 size sensor. This is 2.6 times the area, so 2.6 times more light captured, not even taking into account the also hugely improved aperture, you gain another 1.5 stops more light. In the end, the mini 3 will be able to capture 6.5 times more light on its sensor in the same exposure. More light = less noise and more dynamic range.
I have no idea what this all means but mini 3 it is!
