  • Today we perform some testing on a Titleist -ProV1x and a Bridgestone B RX. We then analyze the data and see if there is a different between the two that we can see, or a difference that we can feel while we were testing! This is a great video with lots of good information so make sure to Subscribe to Muskrat Links for more!

    I am as actually curious about this subject. I stopped playing 12 years ago, and ball options have grown, so have the prices, but kept running into SOFT options, I want to settle on a ball type. This was good. Thank you!

      Glad it was helpful! Ya there a lot of independent testing going on these days which is nice, certainly check out MyGolfSpy to see some charts and data to help target a good ball for your game!

    Im starting to think that there is virtually no difference between most golf balls.

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  Год назад +3

      To your average golfer there is absolutely no difference, there are so many more factors that impact play in a much greater way. To golfers that are getting close to scratch or a robot, there is a very noticable difference that will have a direct and predictable correlation with spin, launch angle, ball speed etc. So it really depends on where you are in your golf journey! Me being a 7 HCP, any Urethane ball will certainly be good enough for me to play my best!

    nice video! I keep hearing compression really doesnt matter too much, but I swing 85 max driver 225 or so. Thoughts on compression I should use. Currently my 2 gamer balls are the Vice Air Pro and the Srixon QStar Tour. The Srixon is 67 compression and Air Pro 75. I pay to an 11 handicap.

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  Месяц назад

      @@BruceOglevie Depends on what you need for your swing really, even at 85mph club, you will still gain distance from a firmer ball. Will it be noticeable for you at an 11hcp or me at a 6? Not really, pure ball striking is still miles ahead in determining if we hit a good shot or not, but at least when you fo square it up, you might get an extra 10 or 15 yards!

    • @BruceOglevie
      @BruceOglevie Месяц назад +1

      @@muskratlinksgolf by “square it up” do you mean with higher compression ball I may gain the 10-15?

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  Месяц назад

      @@BruceOglevie Technically speaking, studies have shown at every point of compression is about 2 or so yards extra all things even.

    i play Srixon , q star tour... soft but not tooo soft, great trajectory and piercing distance off the big stick, hot off the irons and very impressive stopping characteristics for a 3 piece 70 ish compression ball.
    my driver speed cant deal with balls in the 90 and up compression range....
    I don't need data to tell me that the z star will drop and stop and hang with the best of them but at a cost with too much in flight iron spin, losing yardage., feel does that.
    golf is almost all feel... what club to hit in a divot, rain, wind, around a tree, etc. and what your balls characteristics will be in those scenarios
    settle on a ball that will stop quick enough for your game, give you the distance you want ,and putt successfully

      Great opinion there, for most golfers it's all about confidence. Ball striking is the main problem for a vast majority of people playing the sports and will the thing that affects score the most. When you get to a level where you are playing mini tour events, other factors start to become more important, but until then a confident strike is going to be leading factor in keeping score low assuming a urethane covered ball. Good luck out there my friend! 🤝

    The problem with your test is the companies don't have a uniform way of measuring the compression. You need to measure the compression of the the balls yourself in your test sample.

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  6 месяцев назад

      Yep that's why I use mygolfspy to get all of my compression data as they are an independent group with consistent testing! That being said, I'm actually working on my own which could be spicy. So all my data in this video is accurate and unbiased.

    ive never bought a golf ball in my LIFE . I play range balls that look good or ones I find. I am 62 yrs old . 4.6 hcp . I hit driver 225-240 carry. 7 iron 140 - 155 . my short game and putting are the SEPARATORS . SO random balls that I find my whole life ..........other than when I WIN NEW GOLF BALLS playing in tournaments............. have not made much difference for me personally . DO NEW PRO V 1 balls go further when I play ? MAYBE but not noticeable enough that I would spend money on them . JUST play what I find in the ditch / pond / along fence line serves me well and cost nothing BUT COSTS $$$$ my playing partners at the end of the round who ALWAYS PLAY BRAND NEW BALLS AND LOSE AT LEAST 1 OR 2 a round . so the cost of new balls for them and forking over their losses on top of that LIFE IS GOOD !!!!

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  3 месяца назад +1

      Absolutely! You can easily just play what you find and enjoy the benefits of premium balls when you get them! Almost makes you play better not wanting to lose them 😂 glad you enjoy the hunt as well my friend!

    author is data driven as opposed to feel?
    I would hope he recognizes some manufacturers actually bear that very name- ie: soft feel, super hot feel... etc..
    ive experienced all types of golf balls in my 63 years and thats literally what you had to go by, there were no tracking options that were completely precise to todays standards.
    the bs / b rx feels great to me.. doesn't checkup as much as pro v, hits further, actually less inflight side to side movement.very workable around the greens... its definitely the ball for me..

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  9 месяцев назад

      It would have been interesting to live in the times where all you had to go on was what the manufacturer told you. I feel like golfers would be much more inclined to do what you did and played the ball they think felt the best for their game. A lot of golfers will still do that, but I'm data driven for sure. If I test a ball that matches what I need for my game, I'm playing that ball regardless of how I perceive it! Great comment! 💪

    It’s just like every new driver that comes out claiming more distance it’s all marketing you play the ball that your favorite pro plays or just the standard favorites just have fun

      Exactly, every manufacturer worth their salt produces hard goods like clubs and balls right up against the USGA limit, the choice is yours to play what you enjoy which is great! 😃

    is everyone afraid to test ball's like callaway warbird. or velocity because they might be just as good as the pro v 1.

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  6 месяцев назад

      They certainly can be as long since compression is the driving factor for distance as proven in repeated large scale independent testing assuming an equal clubhead speed and impact location. However, losing 6000 RPM of backspin around the green makes ionomer/surlyn balls essentially worthless inside of 150yds compared to urethane covered equivalents. Can you play with cheaper ionomer/surlyn ball? Of course, but you will be relying on the extra height that cover produces over spin to control your distance inside of 150 which is objectively a big disadvantage.
      That being said, I love testing all sorts of different constructions and models so we will likely see a test like that in the future on the channel!

    Pointless exercise really as there's no industry independent compression standard. Manufacturers each have their own compression measurement specification, so you can't make an accurate comparison between different manufacturers' products.

    • @muskratlinksgolf
      @muskratlinksgolf  11 месяцев назад +4

      Typically this is an accurate comment but these compression numbers are from an independent testing source so it is uniform across brands which will help prevent exactly what you are talking about! Currently there is no regulation governing manufacturers so independent sources are required to assess compression in a meaningful way. The data you see here is from that source.
