The Sage of Poetry Du Fu 杜甫 Part I

This video introduces the great poet 杜甫 Du Fu and two of his poems. Du Fu shares the reputation as one of the two greatest poets in Classical Chinese poetry with 李白 Li Bai. Unlike Li Bai, Du Fu was a true Confucian scholar and cherished Confucian values such as being loyal to the emperor and care about the welfare the the people. Du Fu composed a large number of poems presenting a realistic picture of the hardship of common people's lives hoping the emperor and the high rank officials would adopt policies that relieve the suffering of the people. This is why Du Fu was loved by people down the centuries and revered as 诗圣, the Sage of Poetry!!
