Hi! I'm Taylor Calmus, a rural South Dakota born and Colorado-based actor/comedian. I started Dude Dad© two weeks before my son Theo was born as a way to stay creative while learning to be a father. My sister was/is "that aunt". She came over once a week when my husband was overseas so I could just NOT parent for a couple hours and I would come back from a jog and she would say, "Well, we broke a lamp, and he may have a black eye." Meanwhile the kids were LOVING it. So, the alone time was worth it.
Giving kids confidence is (usually) always a good thing

I was the fun Auntie. Helped raise my nephew as his mom was pretty much awol. Taught him how to climb trees, hit and throw a baseball/softball, catch snakes, frogs, & bugs, talk to animals, ride a bike and drive a car (sitting in my lap). Also taught him how to behave in a restaurant, took him to movies, museums, and the zoo. He grew up to be a loving, kind, and giving man.

My niece is my favorite person on earth
This brings back such great memories of my funcle. He was a cop so he would show us his shot gun, took us for rides in the bed of his truck. He bought us a new TV and Nintendo system so that he could play at our house. He always brought candy and would wrestle with us. He once shoved my sister into the shower and turned the water on 😂 But he was also so kind and loving. He helped us out whenever he could financially. He passed when I was 11 and I still miss him so much.

When my cousin and I were like 7 and 10, my funcle essentially cobbled together a 2 seater go-kart (that of course was a death trap), and allowed us to drive up and down the back freeway as fast as we wanted for as long as we wanted until the gas ran out with no helmets. Sure we almost got hit by several cars and almost died, but boy did we have the best fun. My mom has never heard this story, and as I've told her, we're waiting on the statute of limitations to run out before we fully confess to all the other stuff we did as kids thanks to our funcle that she still doesn't know about as well....
Statute of limitations rarely run out with Moms. It was 25yrs before I accidentally confessed to being the one who smeared silly putty into our 70’s tweed couch. It’s been 20yrs since the confession and I’m still hearing about it😂

My twin sister and I are the fun aunts. We constantly play nerf, water fights, stair surfing (which our sister in law hates), building forts, burying them in the sand at the beach, teaching them flips on the trampoline, etc. Our brother didn't care, but his wife thought a lot of the stuff we did with them was "unsafe." They aren't dead or need to go to the hospital, so it's fine. 😂
Look, if you don't go to the hospital a couple of times as a kid, your childhood was wasted. I myself spent three weeks in traction because I landed on a trampoline the wrong way, but it was worth it for the story.
No children were hospitalized in the making of this video.

😂 My nephew and niece don't have cousins so my brother and I are their playmates at family get-togethers. We tag team or take a kid each. I honestly don't think they'd have any more fun if they had cousins, although I do wonder what will happen after they grow out of the wrestling/make-believe/toy/lego age.

My uncle Carl was (is) the BEST. He took us for rides in his Trans Am, let us light fireworks at his Condo, watch Faces of Death movies and stay up late!!!
