Here are some pro tips for today’s trick.
1) if it comes down to 2 pieces of paper, it’s a good idea to have someone shuffle them under the table then pass them to somebody else under the table to shuffle as well (like I did in the performance) that way if one of them only turns over one paper it will still make sense to them because they don’t know what the other person did
2) when the “force” person is sitting close to me I start writing names at the BOTTOM of the page, that way it makes sense to write their name near the bottom (just like in the performance)
3) If you do this for a smaller group you can ask who they would invite to the murder mystery to have enough names
4) reminder: If there is someone there who has a name that can be spelled differently, use that person as the force and while writing the names in performance ask them if they spell their name the common way and have them correct you, this really convinces them that you couldn’t have prepared this (exactly like I did with Jacque in the performance)
5) reminder: although I love the murder mystery presentation I have done this with countries, animals, and horror movie villains. Basically I write a common one down (France, Cat, Dracula etc…) then ask the crowd to just yell out countries in Europe or house animals or villains from horror movies, eventually someone will name the obvious ones and then once they have just start writing all the ones you heard including the force one where it goes.
6) don’t worry about anybody trying to look at the backs of the paper, I’ve been doing this for years. It has never happened. Be casual about it… it’s just paper

Fun trick! For a group of kids, it could be "Who took all the Halloween candy?"
I appreciate the point about writing the prediction *after* the slips are prepared. To me, that's the most important detail.

That is also a good way to divvy up chores the way you want them to be. Just do this process for each chore, with your preferred pick already going to be forced. Maybe leave an edge on top for the chore title before you rip the paper up. Sadly, you can't do a big reveal in this case. The only one having fun will probably be you.
Ok got it!! (Been thinkin since yesterday!) The whole set up is to pick a "random" person such as for a birthday or just for what ever the event. Like the name left gets a free drink. Work with the parent of the child or the bartender or just do some research then do a bottle production or glass production as the finisher. Either use equivocate or get their favorite cup to produce. Have some body holding the prediction and as you build up the hype setup the production. And set yourself up to produce whatever the object drink, favorite food, a toy that they really wanted. Anything really.
I have an idea for what I’d use it for. Instead of a prediction, I’d use it to maybe decide what’s for dinner. If I’m really craving something and nobody is all that into it, I’ll use this. Face down, that restaurant or meal is eliminated. Face up, still in the game. As soon as the one is chosen, ask what everybody wants if it’s a restaurant and if it’s a meal, ask everybody to go to the kitchen and start getting it ready. When people are in the kitchen and doing their thing, grab the paper and put it in my pocket. If it’s a restaurant, have the menu kind of ready, maybe have the website up on my phone because I was looking through and that’s why I’m craving it (yay, it was selected) and grab a notepad and place it on the paper. Grab the notepad and paper when I go somewhere “quiet” to call in the order and toss the papers while I’m headed away. Probably need some tweaks since I’m just typing this off the cuff and haven’t gone through it in my head, but 🤷🏻♂️ it could work.

I modified the trick a little. The first thing I did was make a duplicate of the paper slip with the perpetrator's name printed on only one side so it is identical to all the other slips of paper. Also, it would be very difficult to duplicate the tears, so I make some lame excuse about my inability to tear paper without making a mess, that way I have an excuse to use a pair of scissors to cut the paper. This way the duplicate slip of paper looks almost identical to the rest of the slips of paper.
When the first mix is finished, I have the spectator who did the mixing lay the slips of paper on the table and separate them into two piles, facedown and face up. I let the person turn over the face down slips to reveal the names of the dead. In my hand, I am concealing the duplicate name slip face down. I reach out with my palm down concealing the slip of paper and as I gather the pile, I cover it and then turn my hand over so the dead are all face down with the killer face up on the bottom of the pile. I place the pile in front of me.
When the final name is revealed, I focus attention on the prediction as I take and move the move the slip of paper with the killer's name over to the pile of face down slips. while concealing the gimmicked slip in my palm. As I appear to place the slip on the pile, I quickly grab it with my other hand and spread it rapidly all around the table so it is not possible to see that the slip with the killer's name was on the bottom of the pile instead of the top. I accompany this with some patter about the killer being surrounded by his victims. I let the spectator with the envelope open it and read the prediction, then ask the person to apprehend the killer by grabbing the slip of paper with the killer's name on it (the only face up slip of paper). When I do this for my friends, I make the killer either a husband or wife and have the other partner hold the envelope and apprehend the killer. I also advise the partner of the killer to sleep with one eye open from now on.
By doing it this way, there is nothing to hide, the slip of paper with the killer's name looks just like all the rest. I thought of this modification because I would demand to see the slips of paper if I were a spectator having this trick performed for me. It also takes very little skill to hide the slips of paper in your hand, so it is easily performed by a novice.

I'm gonna use this in a whole routine around the game Clue. I will be using this to force a room. I have a unique force for the weapon and then for the killer I use a principle you taught a year ago with the last halloween trick involving the vampire, mummy witch etc.

Another halloween idea you could do with this is the same heads/ tails trick that you do with coins but with M&Ms instead. Do it with the side with M on it is heads and the side with nothing on it is tails. Just take a white marker and draw an M on the blank side of the one you want to force

Spidy, this might have been my fav trick yet. What i did is write the guess on one of the remaining two ripped cards and put it under a placemat. Worked great. Thanks as always!

Sorry, if you take time out to read this, recently attended a party where I showed three tricks that worked well -- but after the third trick, one of the members of the audience became too defensive and then wanted to test out everything --- wanted to see the envelope thoroughly, kept butting in between about he knows I am picking up two cards as his brother does the same -- and that really affected my confidence, and I could not perform any trick correctly after that.
How to deal with such situations. This trick looks amazing, but all I keep thinking is that this one person, who is a close friend, and will probably be at 70 percent of the parties where I perform these tricks, will ask to check the paper 100 percent.
Please give some tips on how to maintain calm, and go through the rest of the trick without hesitation, or hurrying it up and messing it all up in the process. Would be really helpful. Maybe a video on this, that would be even better.
Idk if this will help, but you can just tear the paper on which the names are written and throw them. I don't think anybody will try to collect them and then join the paper. And you can just say, now we don't need these, the main trick is in that envelope or whatever you are using.

Most of the times friends are not the best audiences. However if you want to perform at a party where this person is present and this person is such a close friend to you, speak with them and ask the person not to heckle you any more.
And if they ask to show them the paper in the beginning of the trick. Just keep your thumb on the name and then show them the back side of the page one-handed. And then just start writing the name in front of them.
@@parthangira7876 That's actually a great idea --- could make it performative and hand over all the papers to the person whose name I am forcing -- and then ask them to tear them all up to "destroy the evidence". What do you think?

The coin force feels like it should be old - there's probably something like it in Greater Magic or published in The Jinx - but the earliest I can find is "Heads-Up" by Marcello Truzzi published in Magick issue 184 from 1978. It's used as a date force.

I already do several tricks using Clue cards to predict who, what and where. However, why is always missing, the motive. No more.
After my spectator, who is the fortune teller, accurately predicts the Clue cards, the detective (me) can now say,
"But Madame Cecille. These are all material facts. Can you get inside the villain's head? What was the motive?"
"I will write down eight motives, and you must pick the one that I have in this envelope."

i like this as been impromptu :) another way of making this impromptu is get the paper ready and in your pocket and when at the party it comes to game time or trick time :) ask them for a piece of A4 most people will or wont have it you then pull out your other A4 paper blank both sides already folded then and this bit would require a switch but easily done with other pocket routine :) that is when the other paper with your name already on the back is used :) they are convince it was a blank piece of paper to start with boom trick impromptu :)

An idea I came up with is instead of using the names of friends use the names of horror movie villains, and have your friends or audience members be the targets for these villains. Whichever villains are used is solely based on the audience. Obviously, it would be safer to use classic monsters like Wolfman and Frankenstein when performing for children, rather than Freddy Kreuger or Michael Meyers. Also, whichever cards are face down denote which of your friends escaped the bad guys, and the cards that remain face-up denote which friends were not so lucky. Therefore, the prediction aligns itself with the villain that gets away.

You can also use bicycle cards that have a blank face and use one that has a double blank face if you want to look fancy also I purchase creepy old looking paper from different Stores that sell paper and envelopes and sill it with wax seal and a press with my initial this is a awesome effect
