A really good friend of mine, who recently got his US citizenship, was from Negril, Jamaica. Adrian's story sounds significantly mild compared to some of the stories my friend has told me about the treatment of some gay individuals he has seen in his life. It's a big problem in Jamaica, and I'm glad Adrian was able to escape.
The resilience, guts, strength, and intelligence of this man are remarkable...and should prove encouraging to young gay people in similar circumstances, whether in another country or right here in our own. Equally impressive is his work on forgiveness. He could have just written his family off, as many would have, and justifiably. He has a great future.
As a 15 year old pansexual closeted jamaican (still in Jamaica) girl in highschool, I know how he feels without ever going through what he went through
Go read the Bible . Cause in the original text of the Bible homosexuality was mistranslated for pedophilia in the 1900s . So the Bible never actually says anything against gay people.
@@ariellemurphy8054 i kn, it just proves that the king james version of the bible is a white man's fairytale because they were the ones who introduced homophobia to the black community
Cayman Islands and Belize are one of the few tropical places that are tolerant of LGBT people and have legal rights like marriage. Just last month Cayman Islands had their pride parade. I wish other islands would follow suit but religion has a lot of people bounded without ability to think for themselves.
Ashleyonthenet I guess they are two sides of every story. I just know it's engraved in the musical and heavy religious culture. For example, Buju Banton and what not.
Adrian, I am so happy to hear your story........for everyone in difficult situations: keep hope alive and never give up. You, Adrian, are a model for all of us who struggle. Thank you, bro, love you, man.........>Ray
Why do victims need to reach out to their abusers to offer forgiveness. It should be the other way around. The best advise is to ignore your previous abusers and forget them. Reaching out to them is showing weakness
Another great story. I'm glad that things turned out to be so much better for him. By the way, I push the like button in all ImFromDriftwood videos even before watching and I was never wrong. Thank you for compiling all these great stories. They mean a lot to me.
I am so touched by this gentleman’s story of strength and resilience because I understand very well the mentality in the Caribbean towards LGBT 🏳️🌈 individuals. No one wants the stigma attached so many will live under the radar to avoid being ridiculed. I am thrilled he found peace and in a better place to forgive because that forgiveness can be challenging because those who are suppose to love you are the same ones treat you the worst.
Why do people invest so much in biology? This man's family is going to be found by him, these people who are biologically related to him aren't his family. Family is about love, not hate.
Glad he found his way to a country where they accept whatever this man is. I hope he'll enjoy his time there and never return to Jamaica. In fact, I hope that the united states will TAKE THEM ALL! #PROUDJAMAICAN🇯🇲
Great escape and best of luck to you! It's never easy having to leave your home but healing is the next step. Honor killings and abuse are not isolated and a systemic problem in multiple countries all over the world. I had a schoolmate who was finally removed from his parents after marks were discovered by a nurse at the mental health inpatient he was staying at in 2010. His parents were religious too and being from a village community(these teachings were forced upon by the former Euro French inhabitants from what I have read up on) makes this story all too surreal since my own father fled Beirut during the "attack" in the 70's and still has flashbacks(He won't go for treatment and best not to make him since he does not do well under pressure).
Awfull that anyone in The World have to defend their sexuality. Glad you found a less hostile place to stay. Take care. Britt from Copenhagen, Denmark 🇩🇰
I'm so glad that you were able to get out of your bad situation and will hopefully find a much better life here in the USA for years to come. I can certainly understand the difficulty in finding the will to forgive, especially the ones that are your family, who have turned their backs on you. I have learned though, that forgiveness was much more for my benefit than for those I have forgiven. It has made it a little bit easier for me to do so. Still, I have days when I'm still not able to forget and find myself having to forgive all over again and it's a real struggle. I wish you well and lots of luck. :-)
Why oh why should you have had to fight so hard ? You are a beautiful man ! Love and success to you for your future. You are better than me because I cannot find the forgiveness of the evil ^^^^^^^^ that gave you and give other LGBTQ people such a hard time.
this guy Adrian send me a friend request years ago on hi5 and it took me a while to finaly know he gay. then send another friend request on FB and learn of his migration to the US. from his postings.. brave of him to put him self and his story out there.. America not 100% safer been openly gays but people cant feel like they can abuse you and discriminate against you and just get away with it. even the homophobic Jamaicans living in the US knows that..so their stupid motto we run things things dont run we .doesnt fly in America.
Hes never gonna really forgive his family for diong exactly what outside done that worst I would never speak to them again They worried about being g embarrassed for having a gay child then being a lovejng parent to child God blessed you to have thank god my mom was and still by my side most of family too there's alot of gays in my family so it not much a big deal anymore
So all of his experiences were bad? The focus yes is on the persecution but the stories need to be more fulltime. He had absolutely no support - not even from those similarly inclined???
For the first time, I feel proud of what the US did.

As a Jamaican,I can say we aren't the most tolerant. But when it comes to tourists, we don't bother them.

Caribbean people are actually pretty friendly. Believe me we have our fair share of intolerant homophobic people here in the States as well.
Not everyone In Jamaica hate gays it their life right who am I to judge

He is cute. I am sorry for what he went through.
he is cute, jamaica just has a problem though
Omg this must have been so scary 😥 I’m sooooo glad you are ok
People should stop travelling to jamaica and not support tourism there. Awful and bad. Sorry, you went through this.
America Is the racist and gay capital of the world no one wants to go there trust me
Yikes! Why so much hatred and violence in Jamaica? High hopes for a happy and healthy future.

Hi, Did his partner ever make it to the US?
His partner was already in usa he help him get here think that's what I heard if I'm wrong sorry
How very beautiful is your strength and courage. You are a great example for others. Much success to you in all and everything you do.
Imagine leaving your country for just because you like the same gender.
What does he think he is going to get in America? Black men straight and gay get shot for being Black. Give me a break.
Welcome 🙂💕
If Jamaica so small and so much gay men are living here I'm really curious to know exactly if the straight men population is 2%
It's very good Adrian that, you removed yourself from that situation. Hopefully things are better now, since you've here in the United States.
