    This has always been my dream car since I was in the fifth grade. I always thought the looks of these cars were just so unique. Ever since fifth grade I started slowly saving every penny I had and by the time I was in the eighth grade I had $3000 saved up. I knew exactly what I wanted and it was a 78 trans am with a four speed. It took me two months of searching the web to finally find the one I was looking for. I purchased the car for three grand cash and trailered it home. My trans am has the original W72 Pontiac 400 with the borg Warner 4 speed. It has the ws6 package with deluxe interior power locks and a hard top. I bought that car 4 years ago and have been doing a complete frame off restoration on it. I'm am building the motor right now and when its done I'm Gunna drive the piss out of this car cuz it's always been my dream. People can talk shit and say these cars are slow and "gaudy" but I love these cars and I will have mine until the day I die

    I looove this car. I had a chance to buy a '78 T-top Firebird Formula in this same Martinique Blue color when I lived in California. I think about that car anytime I see something like this!

      I almost like those formulas better, because you don't see as many of those.
      Would of loved a 1979 formula 400, with the 4spd, loaded with t-tops, and all the bells & whistles verses the Trans Am...lol...
      Had a friend that had a 74 formula 400 with an automatic, with ram air,...

      whiteoak60 congrats. You found allegedly incorrect info that was given 5 years ago. Cite your source that’s not Wikipedia, or someone’s blog that also cites no credible source, or be considered wrong compared to the guy that’s owned thousands of classic cars.

      In fact I dont know many people that own a 1978 403 car original
      Please just go to any of the reputable Trans am websites like HITMANS and enjoy all the documents from famed trans am historian John witzke!!@
      There are plenty of sites with information
      On these cars
      Believe me I've studied them
      From the Norwood cars all the way to VAN NUYS California.......
      Want to discuss body codes ? Floor pan codes / double stamp engine codes?

      I'll cite knowledge from both GM's production records and my knowledge of owning them brand new for over 40+ years in my family. Let's keep this simple. From 1977-1979, you could get the Olds 403 V8. The fifth digit of the VIN was a "K" and the GM RPO code was L80. The hood scoop would have said "6.6 LITRE". That's the Olds equipped cars, all of which had a Turbo 350 automatic. For the Pontiac 400 engines, all were VIN code "Z" for the fifth digit. If you bought it with a 4 speed, that made it a W72 version which was 200hp in 1977 and 220hp in 1978 and 1979. You could also get a W72 with an automatic in 1977-1978. All W72 cars would say "T/A 6.6" on the scoop, a regular base 400 (180hp, 1977-1978 only) would say "6.6 LITRE" (some did not have a decal). In 1979, all Pontiac 400 engines were leftover 1978 engines, and all were W72.
      So, bottom line is that your statement is indeed incorrect. If you wanted an automatic transmission, you didn't have to only get the Olds engine if we're talking 1977-1978. You could get a Pontiac 400 with an automatic AND you could get a W72 automatic. In 1979 if you wanted a 400, you only got a manual transmission. In 1979, you could also get the the Pontiac "L37" 301 VIN code "W" engine and that came with either automatic or manual transmission. Doing so got you a credit as the standard Trans Am engine in 1979 was the 403 Olds. The 400 was a $90 option, with a credit for cruise control (which wasn't available with the 400 in 1979) and the 301 got you a credit.

    ugh So Gorgeous,.. He's right, a car like that is therapy. For myself Id make it even more therapeutic though. haha 1st Id pull that motor and cover it in vaseline and seran wrap.. Next, Id fill that void with a Pontiac 455 Stroker -474ci....Give it a roller cam, 6x 0r ram 4 heads, Tremic 5 speed manual, coil-overs, strange axls, 373's, vintage air, cassette deck, weldwood brakes ... etc etc custom widen those deep dish snowflakes, mini tubs... now Im feelin really good.. If I get depressed, a pair of turbos.. 😬

    Wrong letter decals, 78 went to block letters, the T/A 6.6 decal was larger ad bolder. The decal reproduction companies marketed decals for 73-78 to be the same. Now they market decals specifically for 1978

    • @kissklassics
      @kissklassics 9 лет назад

      Peter Chronis Both sets of decals are correct for 78. They were changed mid year from these to the larger block letters.

    • @moutnlovr2
      @moutnlovr2 9 лет назад

      kissklassics Then why are there Trans Am's built in Dec 1977 equipped with block letter decals. A prime example is in the Jan/Feb issue of "Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine" the car is 100% original with 3900 miles, to top it off early versions had body colored tail lamp bezels not the black bezels like yours. I bought a brand new TA back in 78 also block letters, it's possible a few may have got built with the old style decals in early fall of 77 but there far and few, All brochures and advertisement show block letters. What month and year was the blue one you have built?

    • @moutnlovr2
      @moutnlovr2 9 лет назад

      Sorry my mistake you're not Flemings Garage. What I also like to ad is several years back I contacted Phoenix Graphix for a new decal kit, they didn't even have the correct decal kit for my 78. Only in recent years they offered a 78 specific kit with block letters. Most likely because people such as myself complained.

    • @moutnlovr2
      @moutnlovr2 9 лет назад

      Peter Chronis It's also a fact that 78's never had the Trans Am decal on the left front header as this one displays.

    • @kissklassics
      @kissklassics 9 лет назад

      Peter Chronis Yes they did. They dropped that mid year also. Some have them...some don't. In fact some were located above the headlight and some were located below the headlight.
