It's amazing how many ex-press operators here, lol. I'm probably older than most of y'all, I'm from the antique ABDick-360 days. (If ya know, ya know.)
I actually have nothing to say to you, except that I am in agreement 💯
I did want to direct my remarks to the video creator...
Like most people, including myself, we don't like to take advice, especially from an old man. But I'm going to try to rephrase what others have said.
Take the advice of a very old man: it's almost a guarantee that you are on the way out of the door. The nitpicking and the fake closed door meeting is just a formality and paper trail for when you are fired and try to apply for Workers Comp, or something.
The person that you are supposed to be assisting has decided that they do not want to work with you. You couldn't kiss enough butt even if you wanted to.
You are history and just don't know it. No one is going to change their minds.
It's worst than office politics because you have not been there long enough to form strong alliances, regardless of what anybody is saying RN.
When corporate or whoever, gives the green light to fire you, trust me, nobody will come to your defense.
Leave ASAP on your own terms, don't allow them to back you into a corner and have to try to fight your way out. You will lose.
But make your own decisions. Good luck, Friend.

I work in HR and would never advise a supervisor to act that way or have that type of "let's keep this between us" talk with an employee. @@Frugal_fitchic the best thing I ever did was to buy myself a small house, when the interest rates were historically low during the pandemic. While renters are dealing with increased costs of rent, my mortgage is more than affordable, and does not increase. I can afford my lifestyle even better, and I was not in a financial crunch before.

    • @frugalityishername827
      @frugalityishername827 2 года назад +2

@@soulchild2003 my house is 1,128 square feet. Here's some advice for you. If I had to do it again, I would now with the wisdom I have now gained , not just focus the square footage but look at it in conjunction of the layout of the house, to see if all is a good fit for you. Turns out, I could have gone smaller. If I knew that I would have looked at houses 900 to 1000 sq.feet. I have one too many bedrooms, and one room directly behind my kitchen, that, is underutilized. I have always enjoyed looking at pics online, of houses, whether buying or not, and still do. I have noticed that houses that are smaller than my small house, have great layouts, and no wasted space by having rooms and areas, I don't need, or will be underutilized Yet they have layouts that make them feel spacious. Am pretty sure though I am going to use that extra bedroom, to run a business out of, and that will make it a business expense I can deduct from my taxes. You can turn your home into an asset. Of course I could get a roommate , can easily rent for $700 a month. Currently, I like just the way things are. Finding a roommate, would be a long term project of a minimum of 6 months to possibly longer, to make sure, have chosen the right fit, so neither one of us are mismatched, making both of us very miserable. I need to look at not only the ability to pay rent, but also personality characteristics , that are compatible with mine. What I like now about my house, is that I have a lot of options , if I choose from , if I care to use them. My modest home has jumped up, to a + $50,000
more in value. I live up to my screen name, have no debt, other than my mortgage, and my net worth has increased, which before I got more financially literate, had no idea what the significance of a net worth is meant. My credit score is excellent. There's no way, I could rent an apartment , in my area, not even a studio, for under $600 a month. So, I appreciate my tiny mortgage which I got when interest rates were historically lower , at 2.95 % . You may want to consider with 10 years left to work, to buying a small house now. Take a look around at least. I have never lived in a van, but rented a room, before getting my house. I can assure you, living in a van or renting a room comes with disadvantages. Too each their own, but you have no kitchen in a van. Anthony makes it work exceptionally well, but most people are not like Anthony. However, you will spend more money on food, because you will have no freezer or pantry space to take advantage of food prices when they go on sale. I bought a brand new freezer, from Amazon, last year, with points from my reward cards. Total costs was under $30 . My regular frozen items needed for meals go in my refrigerator freezer. Things I have bought on sale for in my freezer, which I do shop, first, before adding something to my grocery list, I already have in my freezer. In a van, you are subject to intolerable weather conditions, which lead you to spend additional money for hotel rooms when it's just too hot or the temps have dropped to freezing temperatures.. I could not live without a bathroom, where I can bathe and shower, and use the toilet. Van dwellers are depending on gym memberships. Another added expense. Recently , we have had severe thunderstorms, roll through our area. I would not want to be out in a van in that. When you buy your home, it's an asset, it grows in value, there are tax breaks , your credit score rises, your net worth increases, all things you don't get with buying a van, not to mention, you must really be careful , safety wise, where you park. If you are not ready to settle down in one place, but roam around the country, then it definitely can work, and will save you money in hotel rooms, as you go place to place, exploring around the country. Otherwise gas is $5 a gallon, another added expense, because van dwellers often have to move their vehicles , trying to find places they can safely park, and are allowed to do so. You can't leave your van parked on any street indefinitely, you will be noticed and arouse suspicion , which will bring a patrol car of two officers to your vehicle, or you may wind up with a ticket of some sort, you have to pay. Society and law will classify you as transient and homeless, with no fixed permanent address. Basic things like mail delivery , will not be yours. You will have to rent a box somewhere, for your mail to go. I would rather buy a lot or a small acreage , somewhere I would be happy to live in retirement, and make sure there's no restrictions as to what I put on my property. Also, make sure if you want utilities that the power lines are in place. Beware of your options for water. If you are okay with being off grid completely or partially, then it's great. Do your research for all the different types of affordable types of homes, you can choose to live in. Each come with pros and cons, choose the one that has the most pros, and would definitely work for your needs and preferences.

You’ve been in your job for a long time and used skills to get you thru those years and “new & improved” management styles get implemented and sometimes they flop and ppl storm out and quit sometimes they motivate us to pay attention, but either way I think, as employees, we feel that stirring inside that we need to rethink our life choices (living in car vs apartment, financial goals) and causes us to overthink...that’s the worst thing we can do is overthink but I’m with you on this one!
Be proud that you’ve been in your industry this long bc obviously you are doing something right! They could’ve saved some minutes by not calling you in office, they could’ve just said “hey reminder: pay attention, details matter” takes 2 seconds. 💥 ridiculous management styles and unnecessary coaching.

Same here, except I now hear myself being labeled as a drug user- all because I do not fall in line with everyone else into the high school cliques. I'm pretty strong minded- and very self assured (not to be confused with conceit or vanity-its nothing to do with that) and confident in my abilities so I don't need any wing men in order to feel comfortable or accepted, because I don't need or care to be "accepted". The way I look at it is its THEIR loss truly, because I am hilarious and practically wrapped in teflon... that in and of itself is so aggravating to the ppl i work with and I guess that the type of person I am is so atypical that they had no idea what to call me so that's how I got this 'label'. Either that or they just wrote down all the options i.e 'the weirdo', 'the workplace ho', 'the class clown', 'the work mom', 'the druggie', etc on individual post it notes- threw them all in a hat and literally drew one out at random. Idk what else could've supported that claim because I'm definitely not a drug user. Thankfully, I could not care less. I try to have fun with it and say off the wall shit to them or do something I think is funny when I know I'm being watched. It works like a charm. Like someone else said, we're here for a pay check-not for being the most popular or see who can make the most friends. I left that shit in high school in 1998. Don't plan on revisiting either!

Always DOUBLE check your work. This is why they REALLY offered you another shift the other day, Also, they wanted to give you a warning vs. a coaching to start that walk out the door. Do not let them win. I would have made him write on the coaching document the total loss of time. Regardless of age everyone in the same position should be performing with the same expectations. Age discrimination is for real. Document so that if you need to contact the EOE or CHRO.

Velvet your are so right! Ageism is real in the workplace today! I’m 59 years old and a manager in a large healthcare corporation . The director & leadership blame managers for everything that goes wrong. We are scapegoats for every damn thing! They sit their overpaid lazy a$$es working “remotely “ while we are out in the medical facilities exposed to Covid and make dumb dysfunctional decisions! Had the nerve to meet with me because the employee survey results score was not high. Most of the toxic employees who did it are gone, I was on medical leave for 3 months and the director was in charge during that time. Her lazy a$$ barely came to check on the office & staff while I was out. When I returned the employees told me it was chaotic in the office and their co-workers were doing whatever they wanted. How the hell am I the blame ??! They fired over 2,000 employees last year for not getting vaccinated, a lot of turnover since Covid started across the organization & country due to resignations, short staffed and employees burned out as a result, people lost their family members to Covid, toxicity among some of the staff ect
I worked for this organization for 20 years! I started taking virtual real estate courses at a college at night. Just finished the final last week & scheduled the state real estate exam. I have been interviewing the past month for another job , possible offer soon for two jobs at different organizations! This director and AVP thinks that just because of my age I am stuck and have to kiss the a$$ to keep this job. I currently have a highly stressful job, most of the managers have left because it got worse after the onset of the pandemic! Know your worth ! If necessary start looking for another job, let them hire these young people who barely want to come to work, call out, quit because they live with their mama, are always on their cell phones and unproductive ect I can’t wait to give my resignation to get dried up lazy a$$! The next manager they hirer will be younger and they will be lucky if they stay one year there! None of the younger supervisors stay, they transfer to promotional positions. So Anthony if I was you, I would start looking for another job , don’t waste time keeping notes. The operator sounds petty & they have proof of your mistakes it’s not as though it’s something that can’t be verified. They are building up a case to terminate you, take my word I have been a manager for over 20 years. Don’t give them the satisfaction, find another job and resign in peace! 🙏🏾❤️

I was once in the same situation, I could see it coming after my first "verbal warning" which my manager put in writing and asked me to sign the form she completed. I refused to sign it because there were errors in her accounts of my mistakes. She said no problem, but it's still going into your HR file. After that, she created false accusations about my work and purposely changed my reports to make them questionable and more corrective meetings with her followed. I decided I didn't want a meeting with her and HR department. I refused to work with a toxic manager, so I went on a two-week vacation and then went in early on the day I was to return to work and slipped my resignation letter under my manager's office door and left the building. I had a phone interview with another company during my vacation, and started a new job two weeks later, which also paid more, so yeah. I refused to take her abuse. I left a toxic environment for sure!

Let me give a little advice.
REALITY: It is much much harder to hire a competent worker than most people think. "Competent" does not mean that you are perfect or don't make any mistakes. A person who shows up on time, understands the work, and can get along with people is not easy to find. Most people do not understand this until they rise to a position where they have to hire their own people. They start out thinking that everybody is incompetent and everybody is replaceable. They very soon realize that they would be lucky to have a crew that will just show up everyday and just do basic work!
*But secondly.* EVERYBODY who is successful learns to do things that are not their job description. We all have put in extra hours that we didn't get paid for. We all have jumped in at a pinch and helped with something that was not in our official job description. If you want to get ahead at any company, you DO IT. Not just to get in with one guy, but to be noticed by many people who work there. You need to go BEYOND what they have assigned you on paper.
On the lower levels of employment people argue about "that's not my job." On the higher levels of employment people see these moments as "opportunities" to get noticed and put good will in their bank.

Find work that you can do that is remote or get training and certification for another profession and get out of there. Be ready and prepare for your exit long before they can plot against you. Dont move back into another apartment. There are part time jobs out there that pay '$25hr you can work part time look at manufacturing jobs too for temporary employment during your training/learning something new process.

I worked as a Project Manager in the petrochemical construction and IT industries for many years. I just retired a few years ago, and I don't miss the stress one little bit. I met and worked with some very nice people over the years, but I worked with some people who would tell lies and try to make others look bad so that they could cover up their own mistakes or to advance their career. Some of these people were at my level, and others were much higher. Keeping a daily log and maintaining an email trail saved me several times. I had individuals who tried to blame me for their bad decisions and fortunately I had all of those decisions in writing. As soon as I was made aware of the situation I just pulled out the documentation and the problem went away. The facts spoke for themselves. If I made a mistake, I simply admitted it and that was the end of it. I worked for the same company for 28 years, so I guess that they were OK with my work. I never had a problem with doing what was needed to get the job done, no matter how boring it was, but sometimes the office politics were brutal. There were times that I hated to go to work due to the problems that my supervisor was creating. Every day was like chewing gum with a toothache. I hung in there and over time the supervisor was let go and the situation improved. Hang in there and don't take work too seriously. Do the best that you can and the days will pass quickly enough.

Every time I wrote her up I was told to "make it work". The head boss finally got around to watching the security feeds and she was finally fired after putting me through 5 years of hell. I figure the company deserved all the money she cost them. @ years later, desparate for help, they hired her back along with a girlfriend of hers. She robbed them blind.

They said I wasn't keeping up with the work .
Long story short, not only did I keep up with the work , I got a big bonus for putting out far more work then was expected of me !
About a month later or so , they fired me for not putting out enough work ! HUH ??????
Anyway they wanted me to sign papers saying I quit , but I wouldn't!

I collected disability, blaming them for bad nerves , anxiety, etc.
Had to try 3 times before I got the disability and lots of goodies from the job.

A means to an end. When they offered a buyout, I jumped at the chance and took the offer. I had enough time and the age. I discussed it with my husband (we always discuss decisions that will affect both of our lives) and he told me to do what I felt was best for me. He was still working. I did not love my job but I knew I had to have one so I stuck with it but when the opportunity presented itself, I left. That was 12 years ago and I do not regret it.

It really sounds like the operator is on the neurodivergent spectrum. A d has to function within certain rules and ways things are done. It's unfortunate that its impacting you. Funny things is the coaching session cost the company more time than your 32min of down time. It's a good idea to keep your notebook. Especially since one of the times your didn't recall. Ideally if an issue arises it should be coached within a week otherwise it didn't happen. I had a manager bring up something that happened 6 months prior during a write. I told him I have no idea what you're talking about. Clearly it's been bothering you for 6 months but you're just not bring it up. I can't speak to it or make a change since I don't remember it. I reminded him he had plenty of opportunities to discuss it with me, but 6 months later was a no go. HR didn't let him get away with that one. And the fact he told me he didn't like me during a write up.
You are right it's not your job to help him with his job. What if you were to get injured then they could say that wasn't your job.

Yep Anthony, my mom used to tell me all the time...just count it all JOY 😊, this too shall pass... trouble don't last always! Yep so therefore I don't let anything or anyone get me upset and especially stay upset, don't give this situation that much energy. 🥂 Cheers

I know I’m late but I totally agree with you Anthony! Sounds like they are just picking on you but you are very smart and a good person so it will all work for your good in the end and back fire on them one way or the other! God bless and keep you! I wish I could be as carefree as you and save all my money but I got kids 🤣😫🙏🏽

I have less than 5 years to age 62 and I am working towards owning a promaster van that me and my cat could live out of and escape civilization. While it's being paid off and built I plan on making it my ticket to camping and hiking on my days off. After 62 it would let me travel and be in nature all year round and only sometimes would I work jobs like campground host to supplement social security. After 62 life in a vehicle in beautiful places without financial fears would be so much better than being trapped in poverty forced to keep working until I dropped. I still plan on apartment living for most of my time left but I may have to live in the van one year before retiring just to pay everything off.
I find it incredibly inspiring that you would find a way to bake cookies in your car, and then do it. That one video has sold me on the benefits of putting a small camping propane stove/oven combo in a van. I don't think even your smile could sell me on living in a space as small as a minivan but if you can pull off being happy in one then me living in a van is looking a lot better.

👍⭐️Good for speaking up for yourself. Yes, you do your job as best as you can. It is not a requirement for you to also do someone else’s job so they will like you! 🙄😠 That’s absurd! You’re grown & very smart & have been working a long time so I’m sure you know how to manage the manager, the job & coworkers. Wishing you the absolute best. 🙏💝

I just recently came across your grits in the car video from a week or so ago. I’ve been binge watching like everybody else. I really enjoy your content and how down to earth, grateful, and positive you remain despite your circumstance. I’ve also noticed that your subscriber count is rising at an insane rate, lol ! Hard work always pays off. Keep up the good work, Anthony. Much respect from Sunny SoCal.

Oh boy what a video. I like your keeping it real. I like all your comments about being called into office. It sure reminded me of my last years in nursing so frustrating and so stressful. I started at 57 swearing I would retire at 62. I will never forget telling my coworker that I dont care if I have to eat bologna sandwiches every day I am retiring early. And I did. It wont be long Anthony you will retire too. What was so bad in nursing was situation after situation compromised my patient care and the safety and welfare of my patients which I could not take. I went home crying so many nites. I love you Anthony, your heart is pure and you are smart enough to care for yourself.

Thanks for your comment, I’m going thru something now at my job. I left a specialty pharmacy job .. the pharmacy owns a large health care insurance so I took a job with the health insurance side as an appeals analyst .. talk about a nightmare … my sup told me yesterday -Friday - I have to work Sat, Sun and Mon to clear the cases on my worklist. It’s a holiday weekend
I’m new, I’m supposed to be in a ramp up period until Jul 1, I’m not supposed to be dumped with a ton of cases, and no one is available to help me.. we’re supposed to have a mentor but there’s no one
