There are criticisms to be had of his film, but his was the most grounded (that actually allowed me to take it somewhat seriously, which was new when it came to kaiju flicks for me personally), and I dont know anyone who does sense of scale as good as he does.

    They are not going to go back to ultra serious. Not when the last 2 have made bank. They are going to double down in the GvK/GxK type tone and I am all for it, even if the tone changes I'm still going to watch it.
    All I ask is for Godzilla to have a bigger role in the next one. I'm fine with the current tone of the Monsterverse. Reverting back to the 2014 grim and dark tone could turn off a lot of people who have really enjoyed the last 2 movies and impact the box office in a negative way.

    If this is the guy primarily responsible for the script of "Godzilla 2014" then I am worried. People get a little blinded by the strengths of that movie, which is pretty much all Gareth Edwards direction. As a script, Godzilla 2014 is easily the worst of the Monsterverse, in the others a joke may not land or some people may not like the tone, but Godzilla 2014 is completely broken as a plot. People keep complaining about the shallow, pointless human characters in the Monsterverse, but none of them admit it all started with Godzilla 2014. Everyone admits Bryan Cranston was wasted, but look at the cast, none of them were used to their full potential.
    And if you compare that to the first "Expendables" movie, which is also very muddled, you start to see a pattern.
    Maybe this guy will prove himself competent, but right now it is not looking good.
    We shall see.

    • @samcooper2474
      @samcooper2474 28 дней назад +2

      This. Let me add that all this complaining over the human characters is nothing more than regurgitated rhetoric from the kind of G fans who feel compelled to view these film through a critical lens because in all honesty, the human characters aren't nearly as bad as people make out. I'd actually argue that they've improved since 2014. I mean, all the characters in KOTM are way more vibrant, lively and full of personality than most of the cast in 2014. The family dynamic with the Russells worked way better than what was attempted in the previous film as well. Sure, they might make a crappy joke that doesn't land here and there, but that just adds to the over the top, fantastical element the franchise has gone with since KOTM. So yeah, I very much share your worries.

As while X was better than Vs, it still has the whole inner earth storyline that just derails the somewhat realism the premise of the monster verse has. Lately, its like we've been watching a more bombastic version of The Core, that movie with Aaron Eckhart, and Hilary Swank, where they have to pilot a drilling machine through the mantle to the core to fix something that the Militaries caused a problem with in the first place. @titanuscreature4485 What are you talking about? Godzilla has always had eras where it was serious and goofy. The monster verse definitely went goofy after king of the monsters. Going back to serious isn't a bad idea

      @@theniceguy7824 I know the characters in 2014 were a bit not interesting but they were not cringe/ annoying like the few in KOTM and onwards. You can def have a serious movie, without too much attention on human characters. Remember the whole thing in 2014 with the nuclear meltdown, the pure tension with the sense of urgency and the music. I want that style again. no bloody singing to songs xDDD

      @@T-HazzaThat's a hard take, more Kaiju focused movies mean more expensive CGI and VFX. Meaning shorter movie, and while yes no human characters would be amazing you'll have critiques say they don't understand the movie or something. Minus One was a good film because it focused more on human characters rather than Kaiju. Which isn't a bad move....but you rarely see Godzilla and the fights weren't as grand.

    Dude may have writing credits on Godzilla 2014 but he has written a lot of trash in his career as well.. Worst thing they could do is go back to that style of movies that focuses more on the human story than the monsters. Keep it that fun romping stomping big monsters smash kind of movie. Folks and kids don't go to see Godzilla for serious stories, They go to see big monster break things.

      no of course not. but just not have the human characters be cringe like the scientist in KOTM with his stupid 1 liners (his dialogue really ruined the serious vibes at times in KOTM) and not singing along to songs like the character who pulled kongs tooth out in the latest one.

    Fucking hated The New Empire, utter trash. Completely loved Godzilla VS Kong though.. somehow they took the worst elements of G vs K and made it like a beat em up video game. Total rubbish.. please don't make any more.. Watched Godzilla Minus One before it and it was a solid film, jerked the old tear sacks and had some clever solutions to beating the kaiju.. still I preferred Shin Godzilla and thought all round it was a much better story and never had that slight lack of immersion that Minus One gave me at times.. minus one reminded me too much of Japanese melo drama vibes with some corny scenes.. still.. it was satisfying all round and I loved the Jaws and Spielberg throw backs.. it really felt like a japanese Godzilla movie that paid homage to classic American cinema.
