    Wow. I have a moisture meter but haven’t used as often as I should. After watching your latest two videos, I’m convinced that I will do so from this point forward !

    I live in southern Ontario. Just checked my olive wood pieces with my wagner and they are emc at 10-12%.didn’t get them from big stores like kjp. Probably, just out the kiln ,they were6-8%. Your moisture reading is surprising

    Cook Woods. Klamath Falls Oregon. They do all their own cutting and kiln drying, instead of just reselling like some of these fly-by-night outfits. An impressive selection and usually have olive wood on hand.

    Darn! I was hoping they had truly dry olive wood. My customers really like it and I do too. Thanks for sharing, my friend.

    You probably already know this, but paint the board ends with acrylic paint to prevent cracking (or use a commercial coating) and let them dry in your shop to the desired moisture content.

    Pretty wood! Olive wood also makes great kitchen utensils such as spoons, etc. The dry olive wood (from USA) I've worked with has always had a moist feel with the sawdust and smells like olive oil.

    I'm in Canada and looking for olive wood I recently found a place in the states called Rare Wood Shop that seems to have olive wood at a reasonable price but I haven't checked out shipping costs yet. Have you ever heard of them. Thanks I will have to check KJP as another source.

    What do use olive wood for. I have never heard of it before. Also, am ignorant as to what percentage moisture would be considered dry. What % are you looking for to be considered “good.?”

    • @woodworkingwithSkyler
      @woodworkingwithSkyler  21 день назад

      I am looking for under 8 percent. Olive wood is one of the most beautiful woods in charcuterie boards, wooden bowls, utensils and such. It’s usually pretty pricey and as you can see it’s hard to find dry olive wood. I have about 40 olive boards I bought over the last year and they are not dry

      I was once told by the operator of a lumber mill that some folks place hardwoods in their attics to lower the moisture content, which acts as a kiln. Also wanted to try using a large thick wall PVC pipe, placing wood inside, sealing the ends of pipe, then applying a vacuum with a vacuum pump. I have the pipe, pump and wood but have never tried it yet. Just wanted to share those thoughts.

    This woman deserves more recognition on youtube. It’s unfair how the good ones aren’t going viral and the dumb greedy ones like “Dusty co lumber” get millions of views. I guess that’s what happens when you sell your soul to festool
