The joys of hiking Trev 😆, Finally got round to watching this, enjoyed it, love the honesty. You just said what I’ve felt on many walks before - “I can’t be bothered” “the boring stretch” 🤣.
What makes you great is that you never sugar coat the 💩, you fess up when you get it wrong and you call it when you've had enough and then you share it with us. Thank you for being and keeping it real. May your next jolly bring you more joy 🙂
There's no doubting it you enjoyed a good portion of that walk Trev. Looking down the Vale of Ewyas must be a highlight. I've been coming here since I was a young boy and have hiked all over it exploring in and out of Wye catchment. That Vale you admired is the path of the Honddu, which passes Llanthony and feeds the Wye via the Monnow. Yeah I know I'm a geek but I love it and never tire of it. You did well I reckon and most likely got back buzzing. Nice one. Mark
Hi, Mark. It's great to hear from you. Yes there were some stunning views along here. I enjoyed it for the most part, just plans didn't pan out quite as I'd hoped. Was glad to have been out though.
@@SummitOrNothing Alright Trev, oh for sure top views around there. Good to hear you enjoyed the hike in my homeland so to speak - I agree nice when plans work out but we take what comes good or bad.
I enjoyed following your adventure there, Trev. When your head says no, you've got to go. As you say, poor weather was forecast for the next day and it could've been worse up on those ridges. I'm with you on the walking for distance but I'm glad you got to admire so many views. Looking out for your next video. Thanks for sharing and all the best.
Cheers Olly. Wad good to get back out at long last, but really wasn't feeling it in the end. Didn't turn out a bad video though. Hope you're keeping well, mate. All the best!
That video had it all, sat nav failure, you styling out a fall, map reading demonstrations and glorious views!! Thanks for sharing Trev and not just binning the video. Always best to call it if you’re not feeling it.
2:05 - nearly styled it out Trev! 😁 I've had a few hikes when I've ended up just not feeling it. Look forward to seeing your next camp. Take it easy buddy
There is no failure, only something to come back for on another day. Years ago I did a day hike along SW coast path. The majority of the walk was along fields with tall hedge blocks the view and above all, sea breeze. It was steamy hot and I walked for miles as if I was a farm security patrol. Eventually I found a semi open patch, cooked lunch, had coffee, and called it the day. Weeks later I went back the same location but tried a different route, and it was brilliant. Guess hiking is exactly like the route we are treading, there are highs, there are lows, but they all lead to somewhere beautiful. 👍👍👍
Very well put Tommy! I know exactly what you mean, have been through some stretches of the coast path which felt exactly the same to me. I am a bit of a hiking snob, I need good views and plenty of them lol. Thanks for watching, sorry for late reply.
Yeah - sometimes it just doesn't go right does it. If you weren't enjoying the ridge walk on the "moorland" I doubt you would have liked your original route from Llanthony - that Offa's Dyke ridge is bloody endless! Had a wild camp there recently - same route up the first ridge, then along ridge to Rhos Dirion and back down the valley towards the reservoir camping next to the stream about halfway down. Wife & I booked on he charity walk next Sunday - See you then.
You didn't fail.no way,no wrong turns just different to the plan.I do this a lot !Good to see I'm not the only one Trev ! Part of the adventure. The views were fabulous.See you next Sunday at Oakhampton !
Thank you Jane! Yea - we have to take the rough with the smooth, I guess! Still managed to get a half decent video out of it though, eh? Cheers for watching!

Fair play. Great video and very honest. There's nothing worse than when you go out and dont feel it. You always think it should be fun but sometimes for some reason it isn't. That said I was surprised, you didn't just pitch up on the top, crack a beer and enjoy the view and see how you felt in the morning. Nice one Trev, having done that climb up above Llanthony loads times, it’s a tester. Good way to blow out the cobwebs. Glorious stuff. On to the North Downs Way next weekend. Back on the Moor in June. Lovely.

This might be one of the most beautiful walks I’ve been shown from the UK. No wonder my dear friend who actually hikes has this on her bucket list. Good caution about the sat nav.
I had fun watching this. I went about a month ago and did the exact same thing. I cut off alot of it as all so far and vast. I do love it up there though. You did well mate. Top vid 😎👌
Looks like what you thought was a path was actually the county boundary line on the map, I’ve made that mistake in the past. I was in the Brecon Beacons this last weekend doing the Elidir Trail which is a popular wooded walk of a number of waterfalls. Highly recommend it if your back in the area.
I love your videos trev. Been away for a year or two, break car camping instead. returning and am catching up wild camping vids and was wondering about breacon beacons. Being in bristol go to dartmoor, but also wanted to go here. This kind of answered my questions, I wouldnt have liked it either. You didnt let us down you did the hard work so i dont have to :)
This video location is Déjà vu for me 🙂Back in January I was going to try and do that same route as you but after looking at the 3D of the mountains I decided it was probably too much for my fitness level. In the end I started from the same point but decided to go up onto the first ridge outside of the woods and headed to the Rhos Dirion summit and round to Waun Fach and Pen Y Gadair Fawr before following the path back down with the woods on the right hand side. You end up going across a high up waterfall along the river where people seem to wild camp before going back across a bridge to the car park down the road. Like you it isn't an impressive route and I did it in the clouds so had no views until the decent at the end.
Your route does sound quite interesting... who doesn't love a waterfall? But yea, the hills are pretty thankless. Cheers for watching, sorry for late reply
Some of my stomping ground there Trev, not far from our house, may have been easier for you if you had walked up the track by the reservoir onto the ridge, for future reference there’s a Bothy at the northern end of Gwryne Fawr Reservoir. Good honest video 👍
Such a wonderful hike (I don't consider it a failure - some days you're just not feeling it). Your videos always cheer me up and make me want to get out more to explore our wonderful countryside. Thank you.
Cracking view's mate fair old walk love your channel you always make me laugh...Where's Nathan???me and my mate are coming down your way this bank holiday coming hope to bump in ya starting off at four winds car park and where ever my legs can carry me👍
Brecons-I think I've left a good amount of dna over there mostly through tracking and camping all over there, nice go at a dance too. We did ours with full pack and in November, over 30 years ago though.
Yea - I bet that was a slog and a half! Last year I probably would have skipped my original route but at present I am somewhat out of shape! Cheers for watching!
@@SummitOrNothing somewhat out of shape would be very nice right now. The me now looks back at the younger me and thinks, You crazy bastard, I knew no fear and was fitter than ever 12.5 stone bft. Now the fat old fart gets out for a trundle onto the moors sounding like an asmatics convention and drowned in sweat.
Hiya mate. I've watched loads of your vids but first time to comment. Hope you get back to Wales soon. When you started you were near Grwyne Fawr Bothy. It's a nice small one. I've been there twice, slept the night last time. Does your mate have his own channel? You 2 together were great. Watched you meet up fairly recently at sales show camping. Looking forward to more from you.
Good effort Trev, if Nath was with you it would of pushed you both on , I do like solo walking but definitely more fun sharing it with someone. You still put in a great effort mate so we’ll done and thanks for the upload
I live in the area Trev and am out normally once a week in the Brecons. And can still occasionally mess up the nav! I always carry a map and compass because particularly around the Black Mountains sat nav can be awful. And I'm old school. A GPS device has been useful in the last 3 years to pinpoint exact location in poor vis. Follow your instincts, they seem sound. Do the Cats Back mate, its near by. Great views.
Love your videos and great to see you in the black mountains - you should get there more often as they’re “close” - but I wish for the love of god you guys would use a walking guide book for inspiration for your Lake District or Welsh trips rather than the bonkers routes you always seem to cook up? I feel for you! There are so many magnificent 8 to 10 mile circular walks in that very vicinity. Anyways keep you the excellent work - as I say, always enjoy watching your films 👍
Did I speak too soon?😁 I don’t feel let down at all and you have to admit that Lord Hereford’s Knob was exciting😃 Always looking forward to these adventures and stop in to the pub and get a pint 🍺🥰
Straight up honest Trev, it's all so big it's easy to underestimate the distance, especially when you don't know the area, good stuff, looks amazing place
It's a shame you don't get out with Nath so much any more, you looked a bit lonely on this one mate :( Keep your chin up, you'll always be our number one watch Trev! All the very best from Deb and me in SW France mate 👍🏻👍🏻🤗
You Looking over that first valley you knew you were never getting across that lol. with all those woodlands and farmlands. Would have taken you hours 😂
It's a shame you think you let anybody down, it's all in your head though as you can see from the comments. Could tell early on you weren't feeling it this time round, and it was a telling moment when you admitted to yourself you weren't enjoying it. Glad you made the decision to cut it short because without enjoyment it becomes a chore, and soon enough you don't want to do it any more. Can't force yourself to enjoy it every time, maybe next time the mojo will return for you, until then. ❤️
Still a decent video, I liked seeing the area cause I ain't been there for donkeys. Well done Trev, not a bad milage walk at all. Bimbling about the beacons. ❤️
@@SummitOrNothing are u suffering without the other camera? i got the lower model of naths old sony that i think ur using ATM... @@rooksfoot1184 I appreciate that mate, but will be ok i reckon - I have the sony handy cam - same as Naths - which is acting as a stop gap. Great video. It made me laugh my socks off as everything seemed to be a dog's dinner from start to finish. LOL! Sorry mate, I shouldn't laugh, it was good entertainment. How come you didn't drive your car to the correct start point at the beginning? That would have saved you from some of the problems surely? All the best.
Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, Trev, but it’s all good content for us viewers. Personally, I think the mileage you did and two big climbs with a 15kg pack is quite a workout. If it’s any consolation, on my first backpacking trip to Wales, I thought Llwybr was a place so I looked for it on the map. At the other end of the path, a finger post pointed back to Llwybr but I never did find the place!
Hey Trev, nothing worst than hiking with bad underwear 😳 Sometimes the experience doesn’t always live up to the expectation. If your not feeling, there’s point in pushing it for the sake of it. Sorry you had a crappy hike. But they’ll be plenty more in the future. No need to apologise. 🥰 It’s good to tell both sides of wild camping. ☺️
Yea, was a frustrating old day, I enjoyed it but nothing worst than constantly having to adjust your clothes. Enough was enough in the end. Thanks for watching!
I agree with the others - that’s not a fail - that’s a change of plan Bizarrely the Brecons include the Black Mountain (singular) in the west and the Black Mountains (plural) in the east. 🤷♂️
I never understood why you would walk somewhere place down the camera and walk back and away from the camera and go back for it 🤣 seems like alot of extra fitness for me
Haha... it makes for a better video with some better framed shots. Actually I don't have walk all that far for each shot to be honest, but yea, I'm sure it adds a mile or two on in the end

Once up on top stay up but like most routes we choose to do there's the ups then the downs and even though you can see your next goal it's the understanding time and distance and with these babies.!! 1:25 map scale better you'll see these beasts for what they are.. monsters..! Anyway you had good weather and visibility up there in the clag ain't nice either and worsens THE MIND OVER MATTER 😵 . Did the 15kg include the obligatory wellies.. A standard requirement for the big blacks.. Used to cross streams and keep your feet dry at lower levels and secondly if you meet a female acquaintance of the four legged variety higher up .. Some of my stomping ground there Trev, not far from our house, may have been easier for you if you had walked up the track by the reservoir onto the ridge, for future reference there’s a Bothy at the northern end of Gwryne Fawr Reservoir. Good honest video 👍
Cheers Pappy! It's a great area, I will get back and explore more in future, will check out the bothy too. Thanks for watching!
You didn't fail at all, you did great. Looked a long hard slog. Still great views 👍
Wow trev,fantastic scenery bud 👍
Yea - was gorgeous, Pete! Cheers!
Such a wonderful hike (I don't consider it a failure - some days you're just not feeling it).
Your videos always cheer me up and make me want to get out more to explore our wonderful countryside. Thank you.
Thanks Barry. I was a little disappointed that I didn't camp but yea... wasn't really feeling it! Cheers for watching, and sorry for the late reply
As you used Outdoor Active, it can get you to your starting point via your sat nav on your phone.
Ah, thats good to know. Thanks for that.
Cracking view's mate fair old walk love your channel you always make me laugh...Where's Nathan???me and my mate are coming down your way this bank holiday coming hope to bump in ya starting off at four winds car park and where ever my legs can carry me👍
Cheers Pete. Yea Nath has been out of action for a while. Dodgy knees. Think he's finally getting them seen to so hoping he'll be back before long.
Not a failure as I enjoyed the video!
Awesome. Thanks for watching!
Great views.
great vid trev, shame you didnt camp after carrying that bag on your back, have you heard from nath?
Hi guys, sorry missed this comment. Did catch up with Nath back along. We are both crazy busy at present but hoping to catch up soon.
Hi TREV, A BAIL IS NOT A FAIL. THAT WAS ONE HELL OF A TREK AND YOU MADE THE RIGHT CALL. WISE TO KNOW WHEN YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH.😊👍👍👍
Cheers Rick! Yea, this one took its toll a bit! Cheers for watching!
Some days its just a tedious slog once a few things go against you, you’re currently 11 miles in so I wouldn’t consider that as a fail mate 👏
Cheers Damo!
Were you up there yesterday? I was up on Black Hill (The Cats back).....didnt hear "Summit or nothing" being shouted so I guess not.... :)
No, I can't turn a video out that quick! 🤣 This was a couple of weeks ago now. Hope you enjoyed your visit!
@@SummitOrNothing I did think it would have been very quick editing. 😂😂
We all have days like that mate.....but we live to fight another day.
Yea, that we do Ron. Thanks for watching!
Just have to put those ones down to a recce for future camps. Although carting that much gear up that mountain can't have been fun 😁
Yea was a slog with that weight on my back. Just like the old days 🤣🤣
Definitely on my list to go there for a camp. Stunning views. It wouldn't be right if it was all plain sailing on this channel 🤣
True words there lol. Yea - I will camp up there at some point! Cheers for watching!
Did I speak too soon?😁 I don’t feel let down at all and you have to admit that Lord Hereford’s Knob was exciting😃 Always looking forward to these adventures and stop in to the pub and get a pint 🍺🥰
Haha... I'll drink to that, Mary! Cheers 🍻
Straight up honest Trev, it's all so big it's easy to underestimate the distance, especially when you don't know the area, good stuff, looks amazing place
Thanks Andrew. Yea, it caught me out this one. Was awesome but just wasn't feeling it. Thanks for watching!
Bless ya mate. Sometimes its just best to go home. No apologies necessary.
Thank you! I'll get back one day for a camp up top. Cheers for watching!
It's a shame you don't get out with Nath so much any more, you looked a bit lonely on this one mate :(
Keep your chin up, you'll always be our number one watch Trev! All the very best from Deb and me in SW France mate 👍🏻👍🏻🤗
You Looking over that first valley you knew you were never getting across that lol. with all those woodlands and farmlands. Would have taken you hours 😂
Yea - it did look a bit ambitious!
Nermind me owd, it's all good fitness training for yer me duck 🤙🙂
Haha... yea, that it is. It got me out of the house!
The zig zag route? She didn’t know you are the mighty summit or nothing! And paths don’t mean anything to you👏🤣
Hahah! Didnt feel so mighty this day lol
Cheers Matt. Yea, took it out of me a bit this time around. Thanks for watching!
Well done!!!
Thank you!
Sorry Trev it's just not acceptable 🤣I'd have pitched up in the those trees at the gate for the night lol
Yea, I couldn't have pitched up in a few places but knew it was gonna be a fidgety uncomfortable old night. Fancied my bed in the end.
Fair play bud, looked like ya had a long hard f cker of a day👍
Still a decent video, I liked seeing the area cause I ain't been there for donkeys.
Well done Trev, not a bad milage walk at all. Bimbling about the beacons. ❤️
"RTB we'll get em next time........." No worries mate... Knowing when to back out is all part of wildcamping
Yea - I'll get back there! Still had a decent old stomp, though, eh! Cheers for watching!
@@SummitOrNothing are u suffering without the other camera? i got the lower model of naths old sony that i think ur using ATM... (mine dont do timelapse maybe lower zoom 115 or 105 cx i think) but it probably run the same battery(and mines half decnt) and u know all the tricks for the settings.. i would loan it to you as a stop gap while u look for a new main camera if u want?? if u promise to send it back lol
@@rooksfoot1184 I appreciate that mate, but will be ok i reckon - I have the sony handy cam - same as Naths - which is acting as a stop gap. I'm looking for a mid priced camera - usually pay about £700 for it - can use it for filming weddings etc too - but they are getting scarce on the market - everytime I find one, i order it and i get refunded as'no longer in stock'. Its all action cams of £1200 plus models... too bulky and pricey to take on them there hillls!
@@SummitOrNothing pretty sure that was the case(price wise) thats why i offered (but it is open offer anytime)... addition to ur kit list: Superglue to reattach wind foam lol........ ATB
Shit happens Trev, my last Dartmoor wildcamp didn't go well, had a great walk but just wasn't feeling it, ended up as a van camp on the coast :)
Cheers Richard! Its not all plain sailing! Thanks for watching!
At the other end of the path, a finger post pointed back to Llwybr but I never did find the place!
not a fail Trev you was out there doing it , but you do need to think about the load you have on your back
Yea, if I'd have known I wasn't gonna camp I perhaps wouldn't have carried all that weight around with me. Cheers for watching!

Take that Ceri 😂😂😂
👍☕❤🎉
What was your wild camp with the Xmas lights in the msr tent called?
ruclips.net/video/_EvPcOnenEM/видео.html
Yep time to bug out if ya not feeling it.
You win some you lose some.
Hey Trev, nothing worst than hiking with bad underwear 😳
Sometimes the experience doesn’t always live up to the expectation.
Don’t laugh at lord herefords knob? You were laughing 😂 you knob 🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣
What can I say? I'm immature! 😂😂
@@SummitOrNothing me too. You trying not to laugh made me laugh more
I agree with the others - that’s not a fail - that’s a change of plan
Bizarrely the Brecons include the Black Mountain (singular) in the west and the Black Mountains (plural) in the east. 🤷♂️
Yea, I thought these were different to the mountains that Nath and I had visited previously. Cheers for watching!
There's nothing worse when you don't enjoy the walk
I never understood why you would walk somewhere place down the camera and walk back and away from the camera and go back for it 🤣 seems like alot of extra fitness for me
Haha... it makes for a better video with some better framed shots. Actually I don't have walk all that far for each shot to be honest, but yea, I'm sure it adds a mile or two on in the end
Trev, you pronounce the 1st L like your hoiking up a phlegm... then it's just normal after that, unless you wanna do it in a Welsh accent too. 😉
Ah, right Craig. I think I'd best not try the accent, I may offend my Welsh viewers even more lol
@@SummitOrNothing fair point, boyo! (Apologies) 😆
Not failed Trevor just means you have to come back, and learn more Welsh names.
Yea, exactly. Cheers for watching!
They are monsters trev..🥴 Unforgiving and relentless... Just drop the hind legs in and hands free 😜.. We've all had days like it mate.. Don't forget nath it's easier to share the suffering 50/50 🤣👍🙏🇬🇧💯
Bring back Si.
Who's Si?
Well done!!!
Cheers!
