Yup, the E36 wheels he confused them with are called Forged M Double Spokes. I know they came on the M3 lightweight and I guess as a wheel option for the regular M3.
yeah, 17" staggered. They weren't my fave, but they looked really cool when you get close, pretty deep looking. Definitely stock with that year's MSport package. I see them around town semi regularly.
I have a V8 Swapped 1987 E30. Best thing I have ever done to my E30. It's a freaking rocket now. I basically did the same thing he did, with a M60B40 from a 1994 540I, Getreg 420g 6 speed out of a 2001 540i, and a 3.24 LSD out of a 2002 Z3M.
I live here in N. Italy (I'm American) and I whole heartedly agree with you! I think the 2010 models were as future looking as they needed to go. The actual steel/chrome bumpers were nicely done and....RWD + manual transmission + driving skill=😃 Oh and the cops here in Italy have no radar in their cars....it's normal to drive 55mph in a 30mph or 95mph in a 75mph. I love these roads!!!
Thank you! Seems like every E30 video or message board post devolves into "I hate new BMWs because..." territory. I own an E30 and F30 and I love them both for different reasons.
Cause it's a load of shit. Obviously prefers an empty check over actually pushing quality product for his fans. Aka the people who made it possible to even get paid from this channel.
lol, well that's because a Rolex is a nicer watch. Think of it this way, he can go out there and say that the BRZ for example is a great little sports car for the money and an awesome buy, but if you have a 911 at home in the garage, what are you actually going to drive given the choice?
You guys forgot to mention the M60B40 is also in the E32, have it in my 740iL, surprisingly provides a great amount of power to pull that 5200 pound tank. Can't imagine how much fun it would be in that lightweight E30, great build!
dirty thirty People are gonna switch the stock suspension out anyways I don't think that matters. Just get a cheap 318. Same chassis just different motor
What a sweet little Toy. Clean, tastefully understated and low-key, seems to have been created for driving enjoyment rather than showing off. Cleanup the interior a bit, add power-brakes and I would absolutely consider daily-driving this instead of my M5. Great Car Chris!
"oh ya its not hard to make this build, anybody can do it!" Yeah take an engine, a tranny, and a rear end from three different cars and put them in another car they were never designed to go into while modifying a whole bunch of other stuff all in your home garage. Total piece of cake.
most BMW parts can be changed with very few modifications. the Z3 rear end for example is exactly the same design from the e30. you can use most M20B25 gearbox on M50s engines etc
bmw purposely designs their parts so they fit into other bmw's.... swapping most engines is pretty straight forward. For example, they used the same shitty waterpump (identical part) in something like 15-20 different cars. This is not uncommon with them.
Until I started on my E28, I knew little/nothing about BMW's. I have since found out that, indeed, there is a lot of design continuity and parts-bin engineering in these cars. The shifter in my project is out of a Z4. the stick fits The original E28 shifter support 'console'. All I had to do is shorten the rod between the stick and the shift shaft on the gearbox. There are half a dozen or more different shifters I could use depending on which shift ratio I wanted. There's even an X5 manual shifter (if you can find one) I could use.
Check out the widowmaker video on carthrottle. That's a wicked fucking E30. Not hating on this e30 at all, but the widowmaker is the king of modded BMWs.
@@clayp.e30_v86 They never came on the E36. The E36 M3 5 spokes received on Euro cars were the DS2's. The North American market and a few others received the DS1's
Quite why anybody thought that a widow-maker needs more power beats me! I had a 325i and it tried to kill me every time it was driven on slightly damp roads! It would try to swap ends in a heartbeat. I can only assume is in a hurry to get killed by it! Great car in the dry, lethal in the wet! Lost count of the amount of bends I went around backwards.
Wow, one of the best One Takes I've seen. These guys should be proud. If you got the money you can drive whatever you want but this was done on a budget and it's badass.
You mentioned Akebono brake pads. I once tried them on my Jetta and must not have had the right type of pad. They were the right part number but they seemed to take longer to stop the car than the ones I had. I took them off and got a set of Stop Tech para aramid pads that are slightly better than OEM for stopping. I think they are even advertised as being more fade resistant and fading is a very common thing with many brakes.
You can fit powerbrakes in M60 swapped E30's. Pretty common swap in Europe. The easiest and cheapest is to literally just mount the brake booster where the stock airbox normally sit and then literally have a rod you welded up operate it. Its going to look ghetto, but it works great. Yes that can be done by a 17 year old, i know that for a fact. Ofcourse if you spend your time playing Need for Speed Underground and Gran Turismo instead of holding the flashlight in the garage for dad, I guess you cant.
Serious props for the headliner! We are currently swapping an S38 in my E24 and going the Hot Rod route so to see this AND see some originality is kick ass! You got my vote!
Ah the M60 v8... my first car was an e34 540i, and it screamed just like this. Brings back memories of 16 year old me doing donuts😢 Man I miss that car
This makes up for the previous E30 vid....a lesson in tasteful upgrades. Ignore Matt's whining about power brakes, if the feel isn't right just change the master cylinder(and/or pad formulation) to get a better feel.
m113k is the move. i'd place it in the w126 slcass of that same era just because it has modern size brakes and ABS stock. But both are equally awesome since w126 gen2 front brakes are a direct swap into the w123 front.
I think about an M119 with a 6-liter RENNtech stroker kit...I like the fact the M119 has 4 valves per cylinder despite being an older engine. And in stock trim (5 liter, 322 hp), it already pulls the S and SL-class cars quite well, can't even imagine how crazy would be in a W123.
I love the one takes. I'm subscribed to only around 5 channels and I watch TST more than any channel. Good shit Matt. Keep it coming. I don't even mind your commercials. Love the car by the way. Nicely done. Bit of a sleeper.
what a sweet car, of all the cars you've reviewed I honestly say this is the only one I would make an offer on and straight up buy just from watching this...
I really think BMW has a fairly timeless style actually the Mercedes of that era look great as well I swear one more of these videos and I'm going to end up buying one
I want the same exact thing only with the V8 m5 motor with 400 hp. Is it too a 50lb weight difference if you push the engine towards the rear and use the 6 speed?
I drove a stock e30 325i years ago (except it was lowered a bit) It was some of the best fun I had in car at the time. I can't imagine how amped up it would be with a V8. But it must be scary fast.
The wheels are not from a E36 M3.
Are from E46 with the M pack.
André Ribeiro you're correct, but I know which wheels he has confused them with. They are relatively similar
Yup, the E36 wheels he confused them with are called Forged M Double Spokes. I know they came on the M3 lightweight and I guess as a wheel option for the regular M3.
yup, I had them on my 2003 330i M sports package.
Yeah, Matt was totally on point with that. So many e36s have them that the owner must have assumed they were meant for the car.
yeah, 17" staggered. They weren't my fave, but they looked really cool when you get close, pretty deep looking. Definitely stock with that year's MSport package. I see them around town
semi regularly.
Real owner, real build and really nice!
I have a V8 Swapped 1987 E30. Best thing I have ever done to my E30. It's a freaking rocket now.

So much nicer looking these Bimmers compared with today's production.

Arthur Wall the M cars are absolutely beautiful but most of the regular 3 & 5 series look the same
Thank you! Seems like every E30 video or message board post devolves into "I hate new BMWs because..." territory. I own an E30 and F30 and I love them both for different reasons.
Didn't even need to check his phone for the transmission, impressive!
He's heavy, but not a heavy G
I see what you did there. Lol.
It's a German Fox body. This is how BMW should have done it in '86.
It would have been kinda funny if M3 would have had 60hp less than 340i
@@DuBstep115 but i think its not well balanced as M3...
No. Just no
Car sounds perfect. Not too loud and not too quiet. Just right.
Matt promotes Vincero watches and wears a Rolex Submariner in the same video. Lol
Bigchubby cause those watches look like and are cheap shit mate
Bigchubby it was a GMT Master II :)
TheSmokingTire GMT Master 2 BLNR Batman ; )

Poor buddy Mike. He did most of the work and drove 500 miles just to get curbed by Matt
lmao
Yea not even a cameo.. bad form
Yeah definitely an a-hole move
The only reason why I started watching this video is that it's not another LS swap
Thanks for clearing that up, I was dying to know why you were watching this.
palmtrees bananapants I'm glad that you're miserable life is now a bit better thanks to my previous comment :)
of course, otherwise it wouldn't be the "odd ball"
slowsr20 2- ever consider commas and fullstops?
Zoltan Benedek ls is way better and lighter than m60 lol

You have to admire this mans passion, and determination for the build.
Damnnnn that exhaust note.... Already so menacing from the 540i E39, but coming from a clean/stockish looking E30... Dayum....
The M60 came from the E34 🤔
"Best part is its sleeper" ...arent all cars sleepers now, an accord goes 0 to 60 on 5.5 seconds, sleeper is now expected
it's not just about 0 to 60
Great car and excellent engine swap. A V8 in a lightweight car. I'm starting look for a 325 E30. Great video Matt!
Jorge Tamacas a heavy brick w only 300hp you mean ;)
Jorge Tamacas Reminds me of.... a prettier fox body the way its set up
Why a 325? save the money and start with a 318
325 has better suspension ;)
dirty thirty People are gonna switch the stock suspension out anyways I don't think that matters. Just get a cheap 318. Same chassis just different motor
Invite Mike for his own shoot? I'm pretty sure he has a gem or two laying around. That build was inspiring.
This is what I dreamt of doing with my old E30 back in 2000 when I lived in Germany near Heidelberg. Good on ya young man.
What a sweet little Toy. Clean, tastefully understated and low-key, seems to have been created for driving enjoyment rather than showing off. Cleanup the interior a bit, add power-brakes and I would absolutely consider daily-driving this instead of my M5. Great Car Chris!
I am not a BMW fan but I dig this car. One of very few BMW one takes I have ever watched. Nice build!!
"oh ya its not hard to make this build, anybody can do it!" Yeah take an engine, a tranny, and a rear end from three different cars and put them in another car they were never designed to go into while modifying a whole bunch of other stuff all in your home garage. Total piece of cake.

you can use most M20B25 gearbox on M50s engines etc
I'm honestly doing this right now with a low boost pump gas setup. It really isn't difficult besides thr monies

Antwon Jenkins And it’s especially easy when your buddy Mike builds majority of it
Frat boy Seth Rogen built a badass e30
Furkan Memon yeah I would never expect a guy like this to pull this off, shouts out though he really knows his stuff.
Haha my first thought too. WTF is Seth Rogen doing in a E30 on TheSmokingTire x)
If you close your eyes and just listen I think you mean Jonah Hill
LMAO he really does. I was just watching war dogs last night.
Check out the widowmaker video on carthrottle. That's a wicked fucking E30. Not hating on this e30 at all, but the widowmaker is the king of modded BMWs.
I'm very happy to see that conquest there!
This owner is legit. Props on the build.
Very cool that dude made all this in his garage. Great achievement!
This guy seems to know what he's talking about.. but those aren't E36 M3 wheels.
hotwire96 that’s right, e46 wheels non M3.
Love the e30, love the fact y'all built it ourselves and love the fact u didn't spend 10s of thousands to do it! Thanks for sharing!
Where in the hell did he get a crack free dash
seraph1926 we got lucky and found it in pick n pull junk yard. 45 bucks!!!
Everyday Car Guys nice!
Mine is crack free and pristine!
Nice to see a guy that knows a lot about his car.
getting the wheels wrong bro, those are e46 330i style 68s. i think there's some confusion here, you had it right matt.
Doublevanoz I think they came on both
They did come on the e36 m3 euro you guys may have had them later on the 46

a E30 that is not ruined, good job. and what a beautifull looking E30. congratulations to the owner :)

Josef von Borcke his obviously kinda fake in many ways
Well, he also probably don't use the ball powder, but he'll still promote it.
Wow, one of the best One Takes I've seen. These guys should be proud. If you got the money you can drive whatever you want but this was done on a budget and it's badass.

he did that in his garage?!?! RESPECT!
Right-sized sporty coupe! Nice work Chris and Mike! Thanks Matt!
That thing is sweet, well done on the home build
Mad props for this Sac town screamin machino...representin Nor Cal...!
Seriously considering this swap myself really tempting after seeing this one and how sorted it is
Ah the M60 v8... my first car was an e34 540i, and it screamed just like this. Brings back memories of 16 year old me doing donuts😢 Man I miss that car
Credit to the guy... he done it himself. I like it. Good work!
No comments on the headliner?
Nice, fitted proper bass in the trunk with the air ride equipment. Respect.
Awesome job on the build
When keeping it simple goes right. Congrats on a build.
A super-sano, show room condition E30 is in Canoga Park with this same conversion. This car is beat, but it's glorious.
Really awesome build! It must have taken a long time to do all that work!
You're doing a good job Matt.
Cool car, chill owner, and properly built. And not to forget the perfect clear looking day y'all driving in. 👍
This is my dream swap in my e30, hope one day I can build one

Cool car Jonah Hill!

Pharoh Elion thursday
Impeccable build. Absolutely perfect in every way.
but can it keep up with a v6 rav4 awd ?

When are you gonna uplod the single cab tacoma?

thank god you doing e30 videos

So cool amazing build, love the work. More BMW builds please
Great car, and MANUAL TRANSMISSION!!
Neat little car! best 700 Dollar donor car ever used for it too.
Best project ever, love E30s.
i love it when the owners CANT stop talking about their car keeps it interesting
Does anyone know how he films this stuff? Cameras? Clamps? Any stabalizing in post necessary?
God I love those E-30's. You could sell many if pdisc power brakes were included. No nonsense driving machine. It must be a joy !!
