Ast year I was a premil, post-trib, Arminian charismatic. Over the last few months, I've become a Calvinist, and am now, what I like to call, functionally postmil. I'm still not sold on a few of the interpretations of various passages, but I think the prescription of the Christian life and general attitude of spreading the kingdom throughout the world as layed out by postimillenialism s 100% correct. I'm still a continuationist, but my theology has shifted drastically over the last few months. Douglas Wilson has been an instrumental catalyst for that change. The question on fleeing California around 20:00, and the allusion to fleeing to a bunker in the mountain as a bad option reminds me of Hezekiah. Whatever decision you make, you mustn’t be thinking of preserving your lifetime’s/generation’s good, you must remember your children’s. Hezekiah was happy that the problems that were coming weren’t gonna affect him in his rule, that would be similar to hiding in the mountains or staying in an infested culture that will kill your children without doing anything about it.
Flee CA! Nothing wrong with that at all. We left in 2013 with our 1 and 3 year olds. Now 11 and 9 and added 2 more children. Less taxes, less traffic, less insane politics.

Exciting times ahead.
That last question about pre-mil is so true. While I still consider myself pre-mil, I notice that almost all other pre-mils don’t want to lift a finger to stop the degradation of western culture because they think the end is near. To me, it doesn’t matter when the end is because I don’t know when it is going to happen; work everyday on the things He told you to do, and let Him bring the end times on His schedule.
What do I say to get my believing wife to go to church? She knows about Calvinism and is scared. She scared that are children could be the 1 in a thousand to get sick or die. I've been doing my best to encourage my family and I have her listen to Durbin, white, and you. I've had many talks about God and Calvinism with her. I became reformed listening to Jeff Durbin last year then I found you and dr. White. The or her fear gets to me sometimes . I've been alone at church and it felt like God was asking me "Where's your family? " Thank you for your time, putting the kiddos to bed.
Hello. I haven't been married very long, but I will try to give my 2 cents. First, are there any factors on your lives that are fueling her fear that you can get rid of? Maybe as a family you need to stop watching the 6:30 news or get off of social media for a time (or forever). Maybe you need to comfort her by reminding her on a regular basis of the promise to care for His people. Secondly, and this will get me in trouble, be careful not to badger your wife with reformed doctrine. I say this as a reformed Baptist who goes to a reformed church. Firstly, since you have only been reformed for a year, she might think this is just a phase you are going through. Furthermore, I have seen many a times where in an attempt to convert other Christians to Calvinism, people have turned the doctrines of grace and other reformed doctrines into an obsession to the detriment of teaching everything the bible has to say. The result is that the other person ends up resenting Calvinism even more as they now associate it with browbeating and an I'm-a-better-Christian-than-you-because-John-Calvin-is-my-home-boy attitude. I would stop making your wife watch Durbin and White(though I appreciate their teaching); I don't think it will be productive for your wife's faith. Stop trying to make her a Calvinist and instead focus on leading her to be as biblical as possible. Finally, make sure you are doing all these things out of love for your wife and for Christ, even as Christ loves his own church. Be gentle with your wife. Help her conquer her fears in Christ. She needs to know that you have her back and only want the best for her, and show her in the bible where and why we are commanded to gather with believers. I hope this was helpful. I will pray for these issues to be resolved in your home.
As a rule of thumb, one shouldn't take advice for their Christian life from an account called Goblim Demon. We're trying to help someone out; trolling won't get you any points here.
@@alexmanzewitsch714 good wisdom! I've personally backed off a few months that ago and let God work on her heart (mine too). She has slowly come to embrace the concept of God's sovereignty more. We have stopped watching TV and get our news when we particularly need to know something and when we do it's not the major big box news stations. My wife has seen me go through phases but that's been because I had a lot of theological differences brought to mind and trying to find a consistent hermeneutics that holds the Bible together rather than secularization it.
The city where my church has a mask mandate that basically goes unenforceable. My church elders have decided that they are going to enforce it on Sundays at our church. I’m meeting with them tomorrow to lay a case before them for why I think this is something we should not tolerate. What are your two or three best biblical arguments for why we should resist this mandate? They are gonna hit me hard with Romans 13!
Let's see... Paul wrote that. Was he ever arrested? Peter? John? Roman's 13 was a popular teaching in churches during the third Reich. Dietrich Bonnhoeffer was pretty non-compliant. This is an extreme argument, but considering the direction we may be headed, considering Canada, Australia and the censorship of the church there, it may be time to ask whether if ones congregation is not willing to recognize your decisions of conscience now, will those who lead your congregation be willing to stand if real persecution comes, or if real moral compromise is demanded? But discuss their reasoning behind their decision and weigh their reasons, they may be weighing factors not apparent to you, internal to the congregation (health or peace of mind for older congregants?) Approach with a spirit of agape. Then draw your conclusions with discernment. Prayers up for you and your congregation.
Romans 13 "ROMANS" Tell me, art thou a Roman? And Paul said, Yea. (Acts 22) "I appeal unto Caesar!" (Acts 25) "All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household." (Philippians 4) Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the leaven of Herod. - JESUS (Mark 8) "Salute Herodion, my kinsman." (Romans 16:11) _ He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. - JESUS
Question for the Canon guys off the back of Doug mentioning his sermon on missions that was full of post mil - can we get the name of it? I'm writing a book on the need of revival in Northern Ireland (where I'm from) and want to have a chapter with a post-mil, revival is ultimately guaranteed because we will succeed in the great commission angle, but without having to fully defend post-mil to everyone. His sermon would be an incredible resource to have!
Biblical young earth creationists who are also, genetically informed say that due to genetic mutation build up, the human race only has around 300 generations until it will be impossible to reproduce a healthy person. So, this limits the post mill worldview, unless it gets up dated.
First of I like to say I appreciate Pastor Wilson for his ministry and for his work. However, regarding the issue of post-millenniumism, some of the arguments presented here is not very sound. I understand Pastor Wilson pointed out some possible short comings for pre-mil positions, but that is not an argument against pre-mil positions. Just because some pre-mil Christians fell into wrong conclusions does not automatically disprove their doctrines. Also, It is not automatic that all pre-mil position Christians would not plan for the future or would act like we are being defeated. The entire pre-mill understanding is that Jesus Christ is coming back very soon to bring judgement and complete the redemption of the entire creation. So it is very positive and very encourage. Through out the entire Bible, you see the desire of the saints to look for His coming. First, His first coming, then His second coming. The Bible ended with the cry of "Even so, come Lord Jesus Christ!" And the Bible also teaches us to occupy and be faithful until He comes. So there's no conflict between believing in a pre-mill position and planing for the future and working hard for the growth of Christian community, the Church. To believe in a post-mil position, one has to disregard too many Biblical passages, the promises of God and the word of the Lord Himself. When the disciples asked Jesus when will He revive the kingdom to Israel? Jesus told the disciples that God is going to establish the kingdom but the time is not for them to know yet. But Jesus was pointing them to the coming of the Holy Spirit as fire and power. So that kingdom they are waiting for is not here yet. If we read the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation we will see many of the prophecies has not been fulfilled yet. And many prophecies in the Book of Isaiah regarding the Millennium also has not been fulfilled. So in order to argue against the Pre-Mil position, I would want to hear how Pastor Wilson would explain all those passages and just believe that all of them have already been fulfilled or they are just allegories, etc. Again, I agree with Pastor Wilson's teachings on families, that we need to have a long term attitudes and we need to do things to build up our next generations and many more generations that are coming after. But I do not believe that is contradictory to a pre-mil position.
Like Doug. But his stand on alcohol is negligent. The amount of lives that got destroyed because of alcohol is proven that it is better to abstain in all forms. Not a sin, but definitely not something that should be encouraged.
Jesus supplied alcohol to people, so clearly He thought it was fine for people to drink. Now excess and impairment is most certainly a problem. If people have a tendency to go overboard, then they should recognize that and for them maybe it would be wise to abstain.
Alcohol isn't what destroyed those lives, sin is. What Doug said is perfectly in line with scripture. Is scripture negligent? I agree that drinking to drunkenness shouldn't be encouraged. Drinking according to the scripture is good for the body and the heart/soul. Is scripture wrong? God bless.
I don't mean to be condescending, but have you ever thought to replace "alcohol" with any other form of addiction? Sex addiction for example: not a sin but can be destructive so better to abstain? Gluttony: eating isn't a sin but it can be destructive so better to abstain? The only reason to demand abstinence is because something is sinful or would be sinful for a particular individual. Broadbrushing everyone into a narrow demand based on a few is a problem.
When parents completely abstain from alcohol, their children never learn how to drink it wisely. The world disciples them through media how to be alcoholics and then that’s all they know. It can become the “forbidden fruit” for them. There’s a reason this joke exists: “Why should you take 2 Baptists fishing with you? Because if you only take 1, he’ll drink all your beer.” Anytime we try to be “holier than God”, we get into trouble.
Just the opposite the Old Testament is the foundation read it twice first at this is what Jesus and the apostles preach talked walked. And we are 2 follow them. You will not understand Paul unless you understand the Old Testament first you will as the New Testament claims twist Paul's words because you are an unlearned. Ask yourself unlearned in what? It's the Old Testament.
