hey mate from rosebery tassie....another great vid . I'm haveing trouble identifying amalgam in the local rivers here...don't really know what I'm looking at/for. I often find black sand in my pan but got no idea otherwise. Any suggestions or sites you can direct me to please mate. Cheers.

Very nice, try using your detector on exposing bedrock and investigate all the repeating ground noise.
If it doesn’t ground balance out, it’s most likely tiny gold

You need to retort the Mercury to recover the gold. Basically you boil the mercury off and the gold is what’s left. A very hazardous process if not done correctly.

You have the type of pan with deep ridges to get rid of the black sand and keep just the gold. Won’t take much time either.
You don’t need a pan with ridges to effectively pan for gold. I know of old timer who prefers a dish without the riffles.
3 grams of gold for two days work is not that bad. You can make a tidy little profit over a week..😉👍

I dont think it happens naturally.
@@sugarnads it does occur naturally, there is also a native silver (+ mercury) amalgam Arquerite. The conduits/fluid pathways which bring gold can also transport mercury.
Although old timers is very likely.
When you find it in old workings its 100% manmade.
It’s from old timers battery stamper mill sites upstream, the mercury was what they lost into the creek
