As anyone who still is hooked into official Nintendo VC emulators, i can say this is freaking great news i've heard during all this year. SNES VC on Wii's biggest flaws and mistakes FINALLY fixed! Imagine if in the future the SNES VC emu can be modified for emulate more special chips such the Super FX or the other DSP variants. But this is wizardly impressive!
My problem was that all my classic controllers were shaped like the GameCube. Luckily the only SNES VC game I had was Super Mario Kart, so it didn't bother me too much. Thanks for taking the time to do something like this, this is really cool!
Very late in the Wii's Life, Nintendo released straight up SNES Controllers that connect to the Wiimote. They are the same ones that are used in the SNES Classic Edition. That's probably the way to go these days, for people who use the Wii for Retro Games.
I wanted to buy SNES games so bad back when I got my first Wii Points card as a gift but I knew I couldn't play them cuz I didn't have a classic controller (and realized I couldn't because Smash Brawl had the same restrictions). Thank you for doing this, I might not even use this tool in the future but I appreciate fixing these versions of the games out of passion.
I always thought it was funny how Sega Genesis games supported the Wii Remote but Super Nintendo games didn't, I remember I wanted Street Fighter 2 on the SNES but the SNES version didn't support the Wii Remote so I just bought the Sega Genesis version instead. It's funny that something similar happened with the 3DS where some Sega Genesis games were ported to it (even with 3D support) but the Super Nintendo games were exclusive to the New 3DS.
I forgot if SNES VC is the same as N64, but if it is, the titles won't play correctly on PAL consoles, as those always set VCs to play at 50fps, regardless of region and even if you set your Wii to PAL60, slowing down the gameplay and/or sound. There are ways to force VCs to run at 60fps, but this also sets the output to NTSC, which breaks RGB video support, since NTSC only supports S-Video.
I saw the title of this and immediately thought "GOD THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH" because I always HATED this so damn bad. I plan on modding a second revision wii my gamily got, and I will totally be testing these out.
Amazing job! If somehow injected VC channels could weigh the same as the original roms, I'd be more inclined towards the VC service. But that's just me, I'm sure there's still a lot of loyal enthusiastic fans that enjoys VC as much as they did back in the day, and even more now with all these improvements. A question that's been going on in my mind... isn't VC channels ran by their own separate SNES emulator? If so, what if you can't fix those 4 VC games because they're using the same VC emulator?
Thanks! They all use their own copy of the emulator, but the code for volume, input, video, etc. are almost identical across all titles, I use patterns to find them in any build of the emulator, similar to nintendont but less complex. The dark filter in SNES VC works by changing a value in the video renderer, this value is a limit for how bright RGB color can be. It's already set to max in those 4 titles, that's why I can't fix them, because there's nothing unique enough to search for.
Tbh, they were right, the Classic Controller rocks. But yeah, VC was never particularly perfect. In the case of Wii VC, there are also the issues of N64 games not having certain effects emulated(Like iirc, the lava glow in Starfox 64) and having the usual stick oversensitivity. Yeah, now that you fixed Snes, I hope someone also fixes N64 at some point. It's just fun seeing commercial releases improved, even tho I could fire up any other release of these games, especially because I am only playing Wii on Dolphin anyways.
Playing Megaman X with the GameCube controller was perfect. I can’t play that game with a “normal” button layout. With jump on B, dash on A and shoot on Y, you could rock your thumb around and hit any button combo with ease. I can’t dash and shoot with a snes or ps1 controller. With those, I usually have to map dash to a trigger.
Hey this is not related to the video but I’m wondering on Zatch Bell mamodo fury is it possible to add more character slots like adding the unused characters like how it is on sa2 with the character select plus mod
@Animeweep-q4t It's something I've considered. If one documents all the code related to selecting characters, it might be possible. I don't really have the time to do it but maybe one day. My focus is on the GBA translations for now. That's something I feel more confident in doing.
Now that you have this figured out maybe next you could fix Nintendo's outright hatred towards using the trigger buttons for your main attacks... why they refuse to do this? Idk... because I love nothing more than to have to take my thumb off the very important r stick and press a to attack... so stupid
Nintendo do that because they know that children and those with small hands find it uncomfortable to use triggers, it's the same reason why z-targeting in occarina of time had toggle function by default.
Discovering and implementing scrapped SNES Wiimote support 19 years later is INSANE and SO COOL!

THANK YOU! I've wanted the GC button fix to exist for over a decade. You are an absolute legend.
Great job! You are a Superssonic genius. Happy holidays.

7:42 nah you know it’s bad when she’s going to completely punish you 😨😨😨
Wooow! Increíble SuperrSonic! Siempre sorprendiendonos! Siempre manteniendo en alto la querida Scene de Wii. Muchas Gracias. Que tengas un gran 2025🎉
This is super cool, glad the Wii scene is still alive and kicking. Well-made video btw, excellent music selection.
9/10 needs more sailor moon
IS THAT SAILOR MOON RPG? 1:57?!?!
Correct
super metroid on a gamecube controller was bonkers. at least the game has button remapping but it really wasn’t ideal

I’d love to see some more finds like this, very impressive!
Dude you are so underrated! You just got a new sub. Good job!
Def their biggest mistake def not repackaging a gamecube with a powerglove and almost no good games

Man, Koei catching strays in this video lmao.
Cool to see a video essay from you!
0:24 Didn't the N64 games do that too?
Amazing work. I love how you casually wrote Assembly patches to fix annoyances you had.
And now for real ... what did you do to that TV??
What is that glorious music at the beginning of the video?
It's "Cue Ball Boogie" from Side Pocket!

@@SuperrSonicthat’s totally fine i was just wondering if it was possible.
Makes me wonder how universal this is for say, ROM hacks (basic ones at least like SMB Special NES ports or SMW Deluxe Remix)

@JBalmoreS Then why is there no option to even change it? At least give us that option.
Awesome work!
Im dying to play scareface on my wii i hate playing with the nunchuck help me play it on the classic controller
