    I have this bass. It's the best Mustang Fender has ever made if you are looking for a versatile short scale bass that is more than just a one-sound Mustang--the Mustang sound is in there, but there is so much more. It's also the best feeling/playing Mustang I've had (and I've had a bunch over the years). If you want one short scale bass that can handle it all... this is the one. Also, unlike the PJ Mustang (which is also a nice bass), the bridge pickup is matched well with the neck pickup, meaning you can run both of them solo or together and it all sounds even and good. The PJ bridge pickup is pretty much worthless soloed. NOT the case with the American Performer.

    • @bflo1000
      @bflo1000 4 года назад +3

      But it's also twice the price of the PJ. Is it worth the extra $$? They sound similar IMO.

    • @AireSound
      @AireSound 4 года назад +2

      I have just traded up to a Player Series PJ Mustang from an Ibanez TMB30 (a cheaper short scale PJ bass). I have not had chance to play a Performer Series PJ Mustang but would expect something that sounded miraculous for twice the price of the Player Series Mustang, but that's just my opinion.
      Obviously a pro bassist would shell out for the Performer Series in the interest of longevity and reliability but any amateur or semi-pro bassist would be well served by the Player Series.

      @@AireSound Sorry for my very late response. Just an overlook on my part, and not intentional. I've only the MIM PJ offset Mustang. I'm assuming it's similar to the Player Series cuz of the same specs. Wasn't overly impressed; since the switch didn't work on the 1st new one I tried, LOL. I'm glad you like your player Mustang, cuz I shelled out about $800 w HS case for a used SG Standard, which I like, but they are exp as hell used, and IMO not worth the $$ for a passive bass, esp w the lousy 3 Pt bridge. Despite that it has lots of sustain because of the set neck, and lots of growl, but fortunatley nowadays there are a TON of SS alternatives to both the PJ Stang and the SG.

    • @christocr
      @christocr 5 лет назад +10

      Definitely. It's pretty mysterious as to why Fender would sell this bass with a long-scale bag. I ditched that immediately and bought a Fender short scale bag... which should have come with the bass anyway.

    • @thesisters1349
      @thesisters1349 5 лет назад +5

      I was just about to make the same comment about the set-up when I saw yours. There are a lot of bass demos with entirely too much fret buzz. Everyone wants dead straight necks and low, low string action. Fender (style) basses weren't designed to be played this way.

    • @thesisters1349
      @thesisters1349 5 лет назад +4

      And, I'll go u one further. You can hear the "warbling" sound pickups make when they are too close to the strings. That is a sweet instrument though...

    • @McOuroborosBurger
      @McOuroborosBurger 5 лет назад +4

      Brian Verrochi I personally like my action low, but not to the point of fret buzzing. Unless, it’s a rickenbacker bass, then a bit of buzz is okay due to the nature of that instrument.

    • @thesisters1349
      @thesisters1349 5 лет назад +4

      Oh of course. There is nothing wrong with liking your basses set low. My observation was, it seems like some bass demo videos are full of fret buzz. I'm not sure if it's just that the player in the video is handed an instrument out of a box that isn't adjusted?

    • @Skiptracer1981

      It sounds ballsy though, which is a good sound for a Mustang Bass. It should be a tad higher, but not too much.

      I play acoustic bass a lot, you learn to survive and thrive without it. Heck I have even started to get my thumb involved when playing fingerstyle! look up floating thumb techniques.

    • @johnsausage
      @johnsausage Год назад +1

      I've recently tried out a mustang bass and missing thumb rest is sooo annoying when you get the bass in your hands at first.. especially if you're used to i.e. a P-bass pickup as a thumb rest. I was very disappointed but it shouldn't be impossible to add one later.. even though I expect more for that price. The Justin Meldal Johnson version of the mustang bass already has a thumb rest..
