This guy is so legit at bass. I love his energy too. Seems like a super nice guy. Like some of these Vulf/Scary Pockets types are so musically perfect that they're squares. But this guy is legit Berklee style, but still maintains his likability.
Damn, are you saying that vulfpeck/scary pockets isn’t likeable 😔
@@jwaj How did you get there from what I wrote? I was praising Nick Campbell for being likable?
I have no idea who Pomplamoose is (but I'll find out) but now I know who Nick Campbell is. Shitthebed! The dude can play and that's a great instrument. Thanks Nick.
Hope you checked them out. Awesome set of musicians.
Love your work with Scary Pockets.
This bass is as close to perfect as you can get, you get the sound of a mustang and a PJ bass and on top of that soloing the bridge pickup gives it so much more bottom end than on a normal jazz
This dude is one of the best bassists ive ever seen. Check him out!

The video was about the bass. What is your opinion of that ?
lesselp personally I never had the chance to try this Mustang. What I can say is that the finish looks great but the pickup combination hurts my eyes.
@@lorenzoguarn Both are not that great.
Its obvious that this guy is a bassist. Not only that but he plays amazingly good. I hate RUclips videos that say in the title bass and the person that plays it is a guitarist and has no idea how to make the instrument sound good. Of course he cant. He is a guitar player he plays bass like the guitar. That's why im so glad that i saw this video. Wanted to hear the munstag in action and i coudnt hear it any better.
Yeah. That's a crime against humanity is when they have a guitar player play a bass in a youtube video. I hate it.
Wow! So versatile! Great demo of a great bass.
demo done right! clear explanation, crazy fluid licks 🔥
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have it in sunburst.....beautiful. Doesn't feel like a toy to me. Plays and sounds great.
Great vid - top notch musician and love that Mustang !
Wow that's a great player. Not overbearing. Really musical. Awesome!!
Awsome bass, got in sparkly red, and sounds great. Use to have the MIM mustang and there's def a difference. Highly recommend it!
this guy has the best looking guitars\basses
Great demo (wish my technique were as solid!) - your review is one of the main reasons I just picked up one of these, in the same color (which my wife loves, so no complaints about yet another bass). The tonal versatility and playability are tops.
still liking it?
@@louierubio Yep! I have a collection of basses so it has to wait turns to be played out but it's always in the lineup.
Gregory Reiber good to know!
Same here, well this review and another one by a french bassist.
I had to buy the red one(the only color imported to my area).I got it like in 30 seconds it was that fun to play.
Since then I stopped playing my other basses and sold some, after this one others feel like hard work to play.
Leo Nidis nice! Ended up getting one. It’s great. Fun to play, fun to write on, has a fun funk rock vibe to it I wanna say??
Wonderful video love my bronco bass this looks like a fancy version always something out there for everyone
Play that funky music white boa ✊🏽
Nick Campbell é o cara! #pomplamoose
This guy is incredible
Nick campbell un crack del bajo
If I didn’t take (possibly undue) issue with there only being 19 frets, I would seriously consider getting this model.
About to pull trigger on a JMJ. But this video makes me doubt.
What string gauge would you recommend on this guitar? Thanks
Regards from Brazil !!! Divinópolis MG Brasil !!!
Is that colour discontinued? I can only find the Sonic Blue and not this one above which is Satin Seafoam Green.
There is this one but the colour is really different: www.andertons.co.uk/bass-dept/bass-guitars/retro-bass-guitars/fender-american-performer-mustang-bass-rw-satin-sfg
I think it looks different here due to the lighting. I have the PJ Mustang in Seafoam Green and depending on the lighting it can look darker or even blue when recorded.
Sonic Blue is one of the MIM PJ "offset" Mustang colors. This is a completely different model, USA made, different price point too. But the surf green crushes in terms of color.
That pickup combo hurts my eyes
But how about your ears? That's what counts. Music is an ear thing, not an eye thing.
christocr its sounds kinda trash together too. Well in my opinion
Speaking of eyes, his eyes look super dilated.
For me it’s the asymmetrical knob placement..I get they wanted to use a stock mustang control plate but it looks so off..
Stefan Bae I like having it there for more sound options though. You can solo it anyway if you'd like
I need one
🔥🔥🔥
Mark Hoppus bass anyone? (Body color and pickguard color)
Echo Necco yeah man!
I think the finish was offered by Fender back when surf rock was huge
clean
Great bass, great player! Is that really surf green?! Looks more like seafoam....
Hi guitar center! I buy all my guitar, bass, and drum equipment from your store! Would I be able to trade a Dean MLX for another guitar?
You'll do far better selling your guitar on Reverb or Fleabay, then buying another guitar.
I want one in competition orange.
Is this worth paying the double price of a PJ mustang mexican made? I want poppy jazz sounds as well as some smooth low sounds.
Ece Dorsay
Only if the Mustang pickup is important to you. Otherwise just go for the Mexican one.
G Brandt i got the usa one because the volume balance between pups and the weight n the feel was superior.
Mod up a bronco bass and you can have it cheapest
Travs Guide cant compare. usa one is awesome.
nowadays they are all made on cnc machines running the same program of toolpaths from the original fender design since the 60s the bronco is agathis body but that's a great wood in my experience one day people will want agathis actually I heard it's expensive in custom guitars
I hear a little fret buzz. How low is the action? Or are you just using too much treble, which is sometimes the problem?
He pretty good
I play bass, and I just don’t get that ‘fret buzz’ tone so many bassists go for. It sounds like they’re screwing up. Hands down, he is better than I ever will be, but the tone makes me feel uneasy
I hate the fretbuzz tone, it sounds so… metallic. I hated it when I started bass, but now I know how to get rid of it thankfully!
It can work great in a mix though. The growly sound catches your ear and draws your attention to the bass
id love to upgrade my fender mex mustang but i cannot stand basses/guitars without a front input. does my head in on my telecaster guitar. it's more than just "use a fkn right angled jack" or whatever. so annoying they didnt find a different place for that third knob on the usa versions
this guy is cool
‘Can I play with Madness?’ bridge anyone?
Where can you get a Seafoam colored Mustang?
This is "surf green." If you would be okay with a PJ Mustang, you can get it in Seafoam green only from Sweetwater Music (it's a special edition).
@@christocr alright thank you!
Get down brother
Well I think I know where my tax return is going next year.
@Braillynn Rodriguez Yes I did and I absolutely love it.
Zac _ me too, I got the aubergine one. Incredible bass! I was torn over the jmj and this, but I found it easier to play. This one, silky smooth neck and I loved blending the tones of the two pickups so in the end I went for this and it’s something I’ll never sell 🙏
Mustang Bass 🤔 why not.......
Kind of looks like a young Quentin Tarantino
He has a nice face and eyes!
Hmmmm I kinda dig it and kinda hate it.
Does anybody know what strings is he using? I have stopped the clip, and seems like flatwounds.
They look and sound like the stock Fender 5250XL roundwounds.
he eat the Bass

Fender vs Gibson....
$1200
No thanks.!!!
For a US made bass? Pretty cheap, really. How much is a new Stingray? $2400??? If you're just going with budget, get a PJ Mustang. Great bass. I have both. I'll tell you right now though, this bass blows the PJ away. Again, the PJ is a great bass, BUT this one is definitely better in sound, build and quality. $700 better? Well, that's for each player to decide. It was for me. My PJ Mustangs are on Ebay right now......
Vintage Rickenbacker 4001's are going for about $2500 on eBay
@christocr can u tell more about this one’s advantages over a mexican pj? i am about to pay double price for this one.
can u tell more about this one’s advantages over a mexican pj? i am about to pay double price for this one. christocr
Ece Dorsay I also had the pj. I got this new one and gave the pj to a close friend. This model feels nicer to play, although the pj model also does feel great already. Plus this one has a real Mustang pickup and it feels like the jazz pickup in this one works better with that Mustang pickup. Plus since this performer model has separate volume controls for each pickup you can blend the sounds for more versatility. Also the build quality feels better on this, and the weight is more balanced. It was annoying to carry the pj around when one side would dip constantly and hit stairs and I’d knock it on everything even when trying hard not to haha. But having said that the pj is still by no means bad, it’s ridiculously good for it’s price. But this is a finer instrument in my humble opinion. The pj does have one small advantage if it’s important to you, the neck feels slightly thinner on the pj. But the performer neck feels more smooth and the frets feel better. But you should really try them both, because it can still be a preference thing. And this is double the price. The performer also comes with a nice gig bag, the pj doesn’t. For me the performer is worth it. I really wanted that mustang pickup. I almost went for the jmj one, but it’s the same price as the performer and having tried both I actually preferred how the performer felt to play and the versatility. I went with the aubergine colour, since it hides the jazz pickup a bit and looks more classic, such a dark colour. But looks damn fine in person, much nicer than in photos that I saw. But if you can try the models first, peace ✌️
Sounds really messy when he plays fast. Can we just get guys who play bass and not wannabe guitar?
Second, the bass looks cool, but the pickups sound awful. J Bass pickups should be probably be replaced with something else.
Ciaron Smith The dude is a professional player meaning he gets paid to play gigs and studio sessions. He is not a guitarist and I have not the slightest clue why you think his playing was “messy.” The faster licks he was playing with the tone off so that tends to muddy the sound slightly but it was still precise in regards to hearing each note. Apparently you play better so maybe you can put a video up of your playing so we can all learn how to play cleanly.
@@donnix6931 Anybody can get paid to play gigs and sessions. I'd rather play the music I want rather than whore myself to whoever will hire me. What's that supposed to mean? It's about quality not quantity. I see a distinct lack of instrumental ability in the young generations. I just thought his fast licks sounded like shit. Not sure why you're so offended.
Pamplamoose, Scarey Pockets, et Al, search both bands, the guy is a awesome bass player and the pickups on this bass sound excellent. So you're 0 for 2, have a seat. 😂
Since you obviously can play the licks better than him, put up the clip.
@@marike1100 Pickups do not sound good and I've never heard of those bands.
