- I finally sorted the forks on the Magna, What. A. Difference. The rebuild itself has definitely helped but upgrading to Hyperpro Progressive Springs has also made a much bigger difference than I expected.
I go through the rebuild in full of the forks and also a road test and initial thoughts. If you find the video helpful please let me know in the comments and also leave a like and subscribe if you want to see more :)
Thanks for watching!

Not sure what made the biggest difference, the rebuild itself, the Hyperpro springs or the fork brace. All I will say is it's made a massive difference!
I bet it was the new oil.
I dunno the old springs were fairly thin and saggy too so that would also likely make a massive difference. The brace has definitely made the front end less vague leaned over too.
There are people making loads of money from patron by doing next to nothing. You are providing content that has value. Don’t be embarrassed. I’ve got one ready for when my studio is finished. Go for it. 1000 true fans is all you need to be successful financially.
Thank you man. I get you I dunno....maybe it's because I'm not happy(and never will be) with all of my content if that makes sense....I always do my best I guess I'll have to settle for that :D
True that man and I can't wait for that studio to be up and running :)
The GorillaBiker You could always wear cosplay and pull ridiculous cross eyed cum faces and make a fortune. Lol.
Hahaha I'm ok with being poor if that the case 😂😂😂
Hell yeah! Slap that grip like it owes you money! Magna sounds amazing. Patreon!
Haha I've bought some new grips for the old girl that'll hopefully solve that :P I know I absolutely love it! Thank you again man :)
The sound of the honda v4 is just epic. Nice video. At least your honest about still learning. Keep going bro.👍. Big thumbs up again. BTW Your sense of humour covers a multitude of sins!!!😂😂😂👍👍👍
It really is....I wish theyd make a modern version so so much :)
Always learning bud :) Thank you I'm actually proud of this video which is a rarity :P Haha thanks 😁
The GorillaBiker
Listen, the reason I love watching this is because of its honesty. Down and dirty in and old shed is what many of us have to put up with and we don't have access to the latest mig welders etc. I think these videos aren't so much about biking, but the way YOU see bikes and the world around you. To quote Lionel Richie, Don't go changing!!! Keep it real.
Thank you man that does mean a lot :) That's exactly how I'm trying to get them across to be honest...just bringing you all along as best I can with my bike stuff :) I will man and thanks again!
Glad to see the Magna again. Great video sir!
Maggie shall hopefully be in many more vids now :)
This is great, man! Really well done!
Thank you Spiff :)
@@TheGorillaBiker always, my man!
you really are doing a super job for us on the super magna, thank you
No problem. Thanks!
That was such a satisfying video. Ye can’t beat time in the workshop. It has to be said though that “stroking” the forks looked so wrong 😂. You’re right about that fork brace. It looks fantastic. Thanks for another great video. Ride Safe Brother 🙏🏻
Thanks man I put more effort into it than is worth talking about :D I'm actually happy with how it came out for once :) You can not at all :)
Hahahaha I know :D
It looks great and feels even better on the road :) Thanks for watching man :)
You too :)
Sounds great... you made that look easy!
Haha I dunno about that, but it is actually straight forward enough :)
That would definitely make a huge difference mate.
The change in the bikes handling is insane!
Can't beat a rebuild with two upgrades added :)
Patreon is good :)
Although, much like a Sena 30S communicator is a sad reminder that I have no friends, a Patreon is sad reminder that I have no money... :(
I'm so happy I finally tracked down the parts to get it all sorted :)
Thanks bud! It took a lot of convincing to get me to do it :P
Haha you do have friends lad I'm one! :) The money thing...I feel ya there :) It's why nothing here will ever change I love making vids for people :)
@@TheGorillaBiker Fork maintainence is so important, and most of us forget about our forks until the seals are leaking or blown out.
I've got about 3,000 miles (5,000 km) left before I need to change my fork oil. I hope it goes as smoothly as yours went. :)
Now, we just need to work on extending the range of blue tooth commuincators by a few thousand miles... :)
I don't even want to know how old that oil was tbh....could have been there forever realistically!
Haha yeah smoooothly :P I actually enjoy doing them :)
Haha a phonecall over them might work :P
Brilliant How To vid mate, it is tough doing these maintenance items for the first time, so seeing a how to is ace. It is also ace to see the mistakes, so it is proper awesome that you left that in, we can learn from others mistakes! :-)
Thanks bud :) oh 100% the best part of most of the how to vids out there are the mistakes for me! It stops people repeating them :) Really glad you liked it :)
Lovely sound!!!
It's a beautiful engine
i put a set of hyperpro springs in my f800gs a few weeks back, its a different bike totally , really good.
Absolutely it's transformed the bike! I'll definitely be buying more of their stuff after putting mileage on this set now. Couldn't be happier really :)
I like how clean the bench is!! 😅 Just kidding, Love ur videos
That bench was beautifully set up :P until I started work..... Thanks Ben :)
Good vid. This week I'm changing out the clutch and throttle cables on my honda hornet 600.
Thank you! Ah lovely I know the throttle is a bit of a pain on them, the clutch is grand tho :)
@@TheGorillaBiker I swapped out the handle bar for a Renthal and now the throttle cable won't fit. Might of pulled on it to hard to get the handle off so gonna inspect under the tank and while I'm there renew the cables. By the way I couldn't find anywhere fir a 2001 honda hornet cables to replace but Wemoto did have it. Plus the prices are bang in! I got a OEM handle cone with grip fir 18 pounds. You would pay 50 euros from honda themselves just fir the tube cone alone and Wemoto got it from the honda factory the same place for 18 pounds that going to honda direst would of cost me 50 euros. Thought I'd let you know and maybe give them a try and a shout out fir bring a genuine class company.
Hopefully it's just old cable problems always good to renew them anyway! Oh I've used wemoto loads in the past! Not much there for the Magna but cmsnl have literally everything it's very handy :) best if luck with the swap out
@@TheGorillaBiker thanks man I hope it is just an old cruddy cable.
Thanks fir the tip on that company you suggested. Will try them out.
Job well done brother 👍🏼💯
Thanks bud! :)
@@TheGorillaBiker 👍🏼💯
Really nicely put together informative vid. Nothing wrong with having a Patreon account, you want to grow your channel, if folks enjoy your content and want to help it's there.
Thanks Banditman :) Haha well put I required a lot of convincing :P I just don't want people to think Im trying to convince them to if that makes sense
@@TheGorillaBiker Its a fine line to tread. I don't like it when channels cut early in a vid to push their merch and Patreon but done sensitivity it's fine. You obviously want to build your channel and I'm guessing ultimately do it full time if possible?
Good luck 👍
I honestly dont know will I ever mention it again tbh. I'll just leave the link somewhere!
Of course doing bike stuff full time would be amazing but I don't hi early think it'll ever happen, I really just enjoy making videos :)
Stroking that fork seems like something you were very familiar with 🤣
THE SHED CAN GET LONELY I ONLY STROKE MY OWN FORKS 😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣
another good usefull video :D think ive only ever had to do forks once.
new pc arrived, dunno if you saw my pic with the specs in my reply to your last vid. but yeah its a monster :D
"stick around for the road test" gets car advert :D
nice delivery time 4 days :D especially in the current times
Thank you :) I actually enjoyed doing it, definitely a rewarding job :) I don't think god damn RUclips I'll go back and look :) hahaha just wanted to tell people it was there :P Yeah that's actually insanely good! I was very impressed
@@TheGorillaBiker :D yeah some jobs are definatly rewarding and not to hard to do.
just incase its hiding the specs are here i.imgur.com/F2gkJuJ.png
definatly might help someone decide to do their own maintinence rather than paying for it to be done.
my 2 day delivery ended up being a little bit longer posted thursday arrived monday, it was sat in the north cork depot from 0200 am sat morning :(
Good info....thanks for making it and leaving in the mistake when the new oil escaped from its new home) I think that I will go with the recommended 7 weight oil since I only weigh in at 160 lbs in the non gorilla format)
Not at all! Haha I always leave in my mistakes, otherwise I think the whole tutorial piece of it misses the mark! :) Yeah that'd make sense, this has worked out well for me but well.....gorilla format :D
Another good video. Why is it manufacturers are so vague about the fluid quantities and measuring. Surely as long as you pour the same amount of fluid in each leg that is the end of it. Done a lot of forks in recent years on scooters and small bikes for friends and family and it always seems that although you put the same amount in both legs if you do a depth measurement they often seem to be different...... Good to see you are cracking on with the jobs. Can't get motivated with mine. Good Luck with the Patreon thing.
Thanks Stephen :) I have no idea it's why I went with a nice even 15 each side! I knew it wouldn't make a huge difference anyway :)
Oh really that's interesting? Kinda ruins the point of measuring the depth then :/ I must test that.
Ah some days I have to kick myself to get going, with the Magna it was easy!
Thanks bud! :) I'm still amazed so many chased me for it I just like making videos :)
If you buy a Haynes manual you will get the exact value of the fork air gap. You will often get a difference in the level if you just pour in the same qty as there will always be a bit of the old oil leftover in one fork or the other. My old 1995 Daytona has four fork level recommendations depending on the VIN number, two of which are exact values only and another two a max and min which are 7mm apart. The air gap is part of the progressive nature of your forks so it's worth paying attention to it, overfilling the oil is generally best avoided.
CMS has a fantastic range of stuff but the postage is a killer it's like buying from the states phew ! only for emergency's that's frustrating .great for referencing parts and numbers though .Cheers : )
Yeah it's no cheap in any way shape or form but for stuff I can't find anywhere else easily I'll always go there. I just get a good order lost together before ordering due to the shipping :)
Wow. Pump that fork. Strangely reminded my of being 14 again.
Hahahahaha I laughed too much at this. Out loud. In work. :D
Excellent tutorial video once again. Ha, camera turning itself off. Was it the dslr or the gopro. Voice commands on the gopro can be a pain if you say the wrong thing. So many times I've said something like 'oh I need to stop for petrol' only to find an hour later that the camera heard stop and decided to do that. 😡
Thank you sir :) The DSLR, the battery was goosed sadly :( I turn them off because I barely understand what I say most of he time so I'd be afraid the gopro would self destruct or something! See that's exactly my fear and why I turned them off :D God damn sensitive gopros.
Editing a bit of the donegal trip at the moment and there's literally 5 minutes where I'm trying to explain the problem with voice commands without using the words go, stop, start, record. Its actually quite funny
Hahaha that could be a video in itself 😂
Great vid man and quick question what does the fork brace do besides actually for sturdiness obviously
Some older bikes rely only on the front axle and something like the front fender for rigidity on the fork lowers, this actually allows flex and movement between the lowers which also leads to the steering feeling more vague and reducing control and grip! Basically just improves the handling :)
Hey man, enjoyed the videos, with the brace you used was it specific to the magna? I couldn't see one for the magna on the link in the description, I could be blind but just thought I'd ask
Thanks! I don't think they have it advertised I organised it through V4 Magna....I'd say give them a buzz or a message and they'll be able to advise! Just tell them I sent you 😁
@@TheGorillaBiker for sure, at the moment looking some upgrades before I even own a magna lol, there's an auction for a 87 700 which is ending in a few days and I'm hoping it'll go cheap enough so I can actually afford it!
Well that will make a world of difference with proper springs if you do get one I highly advise it :)
Hopefully so they're an awesome bike :)
@@TheGorillaBiker I'll keep you updated, also really enjoyed the history video on the magna!
Thanks :)
Noticed you tap the bar end when out on the magna, whys this?
Ehhhh.....the grip may be constantly pulling off 😂😂 I have a new set bought now to sort it :)
Lies, its just an involuntary physical tic he has When he hears a certain engine note at a particular rev range in a particular gear he can't help it and just smacks that bar end.
I wont deny it....
Hey , do you know anyone in Kilkenny that does spokes on a bike wheel ? Broderick's looking for alot of money
No the only shop I've ever dealt with and could recommend is Broderick's sorry! 😬
@@TheGorillaBiker no bother thanks
"Big fellers...or big ladies"...
Its obvious you don't have the rust issue in Ireland that we have in the rust belt, the last time i rebuilt a set of forks on an older motorcycle, I had use torches, bigger hammers and words phrases that I'm going to have to apologize for at the pearly gates.
Biiiiiig ladies.
I honestly was surprised at how good they were, a lot of the time we do have massive Issues but this bike seems to have dodged it all....madness really since it wasn't looked after at all. Honda knew what they were at back in the day.
Haha I'll have some stuff to answer for myself if I make it that far
what was the cost of the new springs?
About 100 euro from what I remember
