Coco coir is quickly becoming the preferred media for a lot of growers, myself included. But if you don't know about the things we cover in this video, you might get the wrong kind, and end up making your next grow more trouble than it's worth.
Check out our tips and get the exact coco that's right for you
Canna Coco was my best grow ..
13 plants 16 pound 👌😎
I’m in love with the coco!!!
I definitely second the Mother Earth brand! I get the pure stuff and only add about 10% perlite and 5% castings, the plants really like it!
you the man! i love when you put out videos on topics I have been doing for years because I always learn some new tip or trick anyway! coco is how I learned and never left.
Thanks for watching!
Canna coco, grow dots, recharge , 3 gallon fabric pots. Bout to move move clones from the clone king to the 3 gallon pots today. Wish me luck
I love it, Good luck!
Good luck brotha!
What size tent , And light, how many plants? Please 🙏🏼
@@jackalexander5099 I have 1 tent currently setup running coco as I’m mainly a dwc hydro guy. My tent is a 4x4 currently housing 6 plants but I’ll be moving one out to my mother area once she’s big enough. My lights are mars hydro fce4800
Sounds like you got everything you need for happy plants, good luck bro.
Was gonna get coco coir this last run but I been having great success with peat cups with organic seedling soil..but it's official ill try coco coir after this run
Your one of the few i listen too!!! I appreciate your knowledge 😎🤘🤘
Thank you.
I learned all about subpar coco coir the hard way. Nutrient lockouts, terrible looking plants, and a ton of time and energy trying to correct a problem I should’ve never had. Don’t skimp folks.
Yes, not all coco coir is equal quality!
Canna coco is legit man very good product
I'm so thankful for the great videos Scott, it helped out a lot i now know what i've gotta pay attenion to , greetings from germany
Glad to help
from germany too, nice to haver it legal finally, my lady is in flower now. maybe a month of so left until harvest, Ive grown in soil for years and since i started in coco I cant go back. much love scotty
No wonder!!!
Im glad to know about the sodium thing.
WTF
I tried popping seeds in it and NOTHING.
I was so bummed.
Now I know why
Ive been using floral flex its been working good for me so far , ive done 4 runs now with floral flex coco
Nice.
Char choir Bio pots are awesome and convienant
I love Coco for fabric pots because of peats hydrophobic properties, but I love peat in my EarthBox's.
For my first ever run I'm using Fox Farm Cultivation Nation 70/30 buffered coco with perlite. Feeding with Neptune's Harvest organic liquid and cal-mag, along with recharge. Seems to be working well, but time will tell. I'm running autos, and I'm at week 5 and just went to flower.
Nice work!
I like to use Royal Gold Tupar
Floraflex loose coco is really nice and the quickfill option is great too but not as clean from my exp
Plus u choose 45 52 or 60% whc & plastic or fabric wrap
My stupid expensive and useless chemistry degree pays off. I buffer 24 hours add 30% perlite. Just add a teaspoon of Calmag to every gallon of nute water. Nary a problem.
Really enjoying the recharge in my grow. Currently running Dukes, dominion blend for my 3rd run & just getting better. I’ve been experimenting with city pickers, earthbox, & my DIY . I’m supper interested in your buckets! Hit me up if you can. Love to talk about them DGC❤
Hell yeah! Duke Knows what he is doing! The real bucket are similar to those other sip systems, they are all just linked with one res and based off of waters self leveling property!
Just don't forget to add Silica once you takeaway the soil. I didn't know about Silica because my stems were thick in Soil, but once I went to all Coco my stems were thin like pencils. Now I add Silica every week and do 50/50 Soil Coco mix. Thick stems are back. Thanks Scotty and gang
Silica as in sand?
Good Point!
@@VrilYa100 Silica as liquid form given every 7 days until Week 5 Flower
I don’t use silica and grow in coco. I have thick stems and branches using flora flex full tilt. Silica actually made the stems weaker when I tried it during one grow.
Adding silica every week is excessive. A) it’s not an essential nutrient, B) it’s immobile and does not decay. A little silica every few weeks in veg only is all that is needed
I been thinking about grabbing 1 of those EBB and flow in and out systems or buy the buckets for it and make my own brain controller and resavoire because they are pretty exspensive.
This answers a question I had about magnesium
Very interesting 🤔 I started with coco, it was bad & switched to soil in my mini grow. My area sodium content in water is BAD, water filters on ground water pumps (red tagged!, for those in the know)come out f Orange with salts/sodium, I wonder if that effected my coco? I now filter twice😮, balancing act. 😂😂😮😂😂😂🤪 Love your videos Thank You ❤
Great Info ! I'm adding this to my play list thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
@@ScottyReal420 Have you thought about ever selling a 3 gallon bucket of soil and Grow Dots all mixed and find a good seed provider like Fast Buds 420 or a friend and sell as a kit with directions to grow it . The right seed and soil you guys would make a killing with the name you all ready have. just an idea for you. when I grow mine in 3 gallon fab pot I use $5 in soil $5 in Grow dots and $11 seed and I seen other co. selling for $50 do the math cut throat business sell yours $45 lol
Hey scotty, we love your show man. Great information 👍...cocoa, recharge and grow dots !!! Best there is ...🎉 shout out to hi- c ...
Much appreciated
I have grown some of the best flowers I have ever grown using grow dots and a couple additive at the very end
I use coco loco by fox farms mixed in with castings and Pro mix hp. Add some harvest hero with silica. But this canna coco sounds interesting and I think Ill give it a try. I would mix in some harvest hero to it as well don't want things getting too heavy and wet.
Scotty do a grow bucket one.
Thank you Sir
Most welcome
Coco added with lot's of goodies is in my opinion extremely hard to beat and can produce absolutely amazing results.
Everything can work with the correct knowledge
Old School Hydro will be forever King .. Spend less, grow more .
Tell me more about the goodies i will try my first coco/perlite mix run
I will add Worm casting myko tricho and bacillus ( vodoo 3in1 from advanced nutrients) and i will use the grandmaster feeding Programm from advanced nutrients but i Chance the silica ( rhino skin ) and use a high concentratet silica made in germany cuz i dont like pottasium silica. Got New led from sanlight made in Austria and wait 4 my uv bulb from migrologht and hope the next run is on Fire😊
If i forgott a goodie for my coco run pls let me know growbuddy ❤
@@MoLemon i don't know your nutrient usage, but make sure you got the calmag. Good on the silica change the potassium kind is a scam as far as I could tell unless maybe your using it outdoors. I'd consider switching the perlite for pumice stones or rice hulls. I don't grow in coco atleast not usually. I have and it has its benefits but I prefer soil and hydro in the winter when I can keep the res tempetures down
@@5thelementcannabisproduction what is old school hydro and how is it superior to anything else?
1g coco bags for the win. I grow monsters in those.
I use canna coco really good! Might be getting a confused with the salts here I use athena and growlink to control my crop steering however I find I can only use half the units it's asking for cause my ec in the pot goes mad like 7ec this might be a shot size issue. But now I've seen this is this a salt lock issue?and or what would u suggest as a solution
Coco's definitely the way to go I like it airy mix people do 7030 personally I like it almost 50/50 but 60 and 40 is good I ordered twice a day when they get a little bit bigger three times a day and they grow fast That's what I learned My next system is going to be water feeding water and nutrients a drip line constantly flowing and I'm going to grow all in perlite you get the best of both worlds hydroponic and like somewhat cocoa
Thanks for sharing
Canna coco bricks for the win.
I use Masterblend but like growdots for my autos.
Only have used nutrifeild coco bricks 80/20 perlite and advanced nutrients haven't had a problem at all whatever works 😉
Is it ok to mix recharge with other water soluble nutes or not recommended iv been using dots and recharge probably dont need the extras byt was curious thanks scotty live the shows olmost live for the new episodes lol
You don't need them with the Grow Dots, the only thing you might want to add is silica. mix silica in first and then the Recharge before watering.
I luv these shorts. Can u do one on coco dryback best practices? I hear 90% saturated at all times and i heard otherwise. With and without perlite? I would really apprec it. So many conflicting things i see online. I use high qual from scietetics. Its the only aged coco on the market and its ground so fine. Try scietetics. Talk to jerin. Def diff than any coco i seen. The texture alone is so diff
I do 500ml 3 times a day. Morning noon and night just like us😂. But that's in flower in a 3 gallon fabric pot
I switched from soil to coco and autopots about 2 years ago never looked back.
what are your thoughts on vermiculite?
Would you use worm casting if also using synthetics?
For the canna coco do you get the bags or the bricks, and if you've used their bricks did you have to buffer them?
The canna bricks are the same coco as in the bags it is just compressed and needs to be rehydrated, but it is prewashed and buffed just like the bags.
I like Burpee Organic Coir
So I’m a newbie I’m getting my (black gold ) organic soil how much coco coir do I add to each bag 50 lbs and it has perlite
I use peat. I know what you mean with your complaints.....however, I put in the time. I have amazing results. I say it is the grower, not the medium. I use your products, but not to avoid the garden. I couldn't advise anyone not to use coco. But I can show em pounds per harvest easily. All without coco.
Gro med coco is pretty clean to and cheap
I have done coco grows, but went back to super soil. I get great flavors from my soil grows.
Not on subject of video but did one awhile ago. Should I run my uv lights the whole light cycle. Figured outside plants are getting it whole time. Am I right
No you only want to run them for the period of time recommend by the manufacturer. check your instruction manual.
I have a ? for y'all.....I just started using ac infinity self watering pots....they hold well over a gallon of water would a air stone in them help? I did dwc for a few grows and used them so wondered if it would help this form of watering
It is not needed but it won't hurt anything and may help if the plant is uptalking water slowly.
It would be great for you to go over useing coco and growdots ,your method ,kind of an example for begginers.
Bio Bizz Coco is nice as well! ✌🏼
ill grab the bricks from trusted source or mother earth performance, put in a tote fill it with ro water and some no#2 perlite and a tad bit of neem just in case bugs are chilling. . give a bit more cal,mag when feeding . never had any lockout. doing it since the homie turned me on, 8 years ago..but ill never use coco loco. thats kinda hot for young plants. you can get runoff around 1100 tds imo plus scotty real a good place for info
I'm on board with "coir" sounding like "foyer".
Royal Gold
If I do 50/50 soil and coco should I still water every day ?? Or every other day ???
I use 10 gallon pots I use coco on the bottom 4 to5 inches then my own soil compost mix for 8 inches. Then I top dress with a compost mix called who flung dung which works great full of microbes I don't know if they sell it In Canada or America I forgot the worm castings and water with fish Imullsion and kelp works great I forgot perlite
Just flipped to flower on my first Coco grow (using Coco Loco) and liking the results but I don’t quite understand why my runoff EC is significantly less (like 40% lower) than the nutrient EC. Was expecting drainage to be higher EC rather than lower. I assumed it was the plants (GG and Blue Dream) sucking up the nutrients and jacking up the input EC helped but not a lot. After this video now wondering whether it’s a buffering problem. The Blue Dream looks great but the GG while growing very well always seems just a tad on the yellow side.
I fertigate every 4 hours aiming for 15% runoff during veg.
AC Infinity coco bricks have worked really well for me as well as canna coco
nice! i did not realize AC had coco. Check out Char choir Bio pots they are awesome and convienan. just add water and plant into the pot!
lovin dem dots!
💪
Coco always Sir 💯👍💨✌️
Where can I get recharge and grow dots in Canada?
Do grow dots work for Coco?
Great stuff guys! Im bout to start my first coco with some auto's. Glad i watch you guys! 🌄🌱💚
Good luck!
So you can transplant autos in beginning? I always was told no it would stunt the growth?
Basically, unless you time it right, anytime you transplant the plants will take some time to adjust. With Auto's we only have a limited amount of time before flower and we can't adjust that time. Unlike photos, which can have extra time to adjust.
Make sense thanks!
what nutrients need to be added? are these mostly synth or are organic viable? i read about 70/30 coco/perlit. nutrients need to be added daily?
Everyday it needs nutrients
So what would the benefit of going from no till soil to coco ?
Mother earth, and mix in my own perlite. 75/25 in smaller pots 65/35 Final transplant. Works for me not all experiments I do work but this seems to. Ps I also use Canna nutrients Coco during veg. Aqua Flores during flower in my opinion the Coco nutrient has too much nitrogen for the flower stage Stays to green, no fall colors
On the coco vs peat argument, I have to wonder if the sustainability difference is in the processing. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like coco in general uses a lot more water, including it is usually triple washed and often the consumer washes it at least once as well. I think both are fairly equal in choices and sustainability for different reasons.
Agreed! Also... Unless you live in India or Sri Lanka, that's a hell of a long way to ship that product! Peat comes from an hour away from me... Like everything, it depends
CEC potential in peat is nearly double Coco.
@@farmerjhemp If that is true, it would probably mean peat is probably a better choice for living soil compared to coco.
I reuse my coco. Do you reuse your peat?
@@Toneloke-3000 Yeah I've reused both and have had good results with both.
Cyco Nutrients Cocoa Chunks if they still exist,, best cocoa ever
😮I like your videos Scotty real
Thank you!
My next grow am going to use your soil the recharge
Coco always needs to be PH'd. I don't ph my no-till beds mixed with sphagnum peat moss as the base.
Question: Does adding earthworm castings change the pH range for coco or is it still 5.8 to 6.2?
with casting you can let the ph range go from 5.8-6.2 and will be fine.
was about to try grow dots nd recharge, but I thought I heard a coupon code on one of your last videos.
Dude... First off, I love your show, bravo and thank you. But after all of the coco issues you mention in this video... So, how is this better than rapid rooters or pete moss plugs again? I've always used rapid rooters (Pete moss plugs) and have never had an issue. Granted I don't grow in dirt, so feeding is bottom up and not top to bottom. Guess IVe been lucky.
You got to go with what works for you, coco like anything has it issues and it benefits.
If the Thumbnail to this video was a caption: katt wiliams: “gotta keep your pimp hand strong”
🤣
What are your thoughts on pro mix . I thought it was coco but just found out it’s peat..
I don't use it myself, but I know a lot of growers like it.
Peat is also flammable when it gets dried out and exposed to the sun. Its become a problem in Europe and the states. Unused or old peat is thrown out and it starts forest fires. I think it has to do with how they mine it.
i been using ecothrive coco coir (prebuffered) and dutch pro nutes great results in coco coir, if your tap water is good you do not need to ph
Hell yeah.
I just wanted to say thanks for your videos and the people who have helped out with a fellas grow, and I use fox frog grow dots with recharge. Im not sucking up if you want to see your sh-stuff look beautiful. Grow beautiful, try it out!! I don't get anything from Scotty😂but lots of knowledge, thanks to you and H-c and everyone who has helped out
Thanks for sharing, Glad to hear they are working for you!
What about Mother Earth Coco Pete? Is that a reliable product?
Foxfarm coco loco 🔥
Sweet smoke New
Dolomite lime is a great buffer.
10% hydroton bottom of pot, 70/30 bottom half, 60/40 top half 👍🏻
Just champed :)
Estuaries can be brackish, like the Potomac River. Even the marsh water is too salty.
When I was growing in coco I started with the cheap stuff (like so many do), worst mistake ever. Constantly chasing your tail trying to fix the problems. Ended up using either Canna or Cyco, only 2 brands I would use.
I went through this myself.
How many times could coco coir be reused when using Recharge?
You can reuse it a few times, you will have to add some fresh coco in each round to replace the root ball, but you should be able to get a few rounds in before it starts to brake down.
Canna coco for the win!,I use the canna nutes with a little Epsom salts and get amazing results👍🏻
Great vid guys
Thank you!
So can coco be reused? If so, what do I need to do with it? Anything?
let it dry and get rid of all the roots then soak it in water for a bit then leave it in calmag solution over night
yep, what they said
Char coir coco/ perlite 50/50 works amazing
🙌
Awesome Video, have you tried „BioBizz Coco“ coir before?
Dutch plantin coco
Team Coco all the way. The buffering is quite simple but messy as hell. I’ll stay with brick, I don’t mind.
So can you use grow dots with coco coir???
Yes you sure can, they work great with coco is sip systems.
@@ScottyReal420 thanks my man I appreciate you getting back with me on this. Wish me luck lol
I use miracle grow the coco and miracle grow indoor coco coir from that I've used on my plants n never had a problem
How’s the taste ? I heard cannabis grown in miracle grow taste really bad
@edfarley4560 mega flush, maybe?
@@Toneloke-3000 I have a buddy who uses goat chit on his plants the whole way through flower. He grew a 10 ft tall plant . Sad thing is the buds tasted like a horrible goat chit . Moral is if it’s grown in chit, it will taste like chit. Same goes for miracle grow
I've used Tupur for years. The only problems I have with plants are due to my own occasional laziness and/or stupidity
👌🏻
Canna coco, Grow Dot's & Recharge in my Real Buckets.
🙌
Question has anybody ever want to have cocoa half soil
you can make living soil with coco.
I’ve switched off synthetics and gone organic living soil. I will never go back to synthetics. Way better quality IMO. I also (not confirmed) think that synthetics is part of what blocks you REM. Since going organic, I’ve noticed my sleep is better, and my dreams are back. I haven’t had a dream in over a decade. Now I have them almost every night.
HAHA the stuff stoners come up with. Comedy
Interesting!
@@thomasjones3508 you’re just upset you could never come up with a hypothesis as good as this. 🤣
Flora Flex coco?
I love it and use it in every grow
