Another vote for Wired Freedom awd project. WF is such a good bike for 2k and with another motor and battery seems like the best bang for buck for utilitarian/dual sport type applications which is what I'm into
I cant think of what they are called but the circular plastic inserts you put between the spokes to make the wheel look solid would help the look of the front wheel.
Super review and well done on making another 2 wheel drive system. Ok, now we know that 2 wheel drive is the answer for our hill climbing challenges what about pulling a trailer? I was going to upgrade from my 750watt 2018 Rad Wagon to the Rad Burro work trike to truly be able to ditch my pickup on small work/hauling cargo loads but sadly they have discontinued its manufacture! I thought maybe I could get another trike but none that are available have enough power. Would a 2 wheel drive fat tyre pull a trailer on hilly terrains? I think I would still like the convenience and fun of a 2 wheeler when not hauling a trailer rather than a trike. The best of two worlds, a fun hill climber and a trailer hauler when needed! CitizenCycle, are u up to the challenge??? Another question, could I fit another motor on the front (I think 2.5 inch tyre) of my 2018RadWagon? Thank you to the very best Electric bike reviewer out there! SkipRay, Kerry, Ireland.
There are a lot of those eGo 56V lawn care batteries out there .. they have rapid chargers and the tools have battery locks ..Might make an interesting Macgurver conversion ..
I recently saw a Bafang 750w front motor kit. I can't remember the site. I have a Bafang rear upgrade on my Eahora X5 Plus. Would love to put a kit on the front. Too bad the controller and display determine the power. Mine topped out at 28-29 on level dround. Wind depending. The Bafang is giving me a solid 30-34. Unfortunately the speed limiter on the display cuts it out. Wish there was a way to jailbreak a display
Nice addition to the bike. Where did you purchase the motor and controller from. I’m trying to replace my controller on a Aventon Level, which is not throttle on demand. Aventon can’t supply it.
I don't know if you can find a front geared hub over 750 watts for 150-155mm drop outs in 26".. I know for me it would mean 52V and I would need a Grizzly motor for that.
Citizen ... Cyrusher says that Ranger rear shocks ship with 150# of air in rear shock mine will not hold air . have you checked your rear shock may be the reason for Rangers lack of travel against the Cobra ??? Rangers triangulation is much better than Cobras yet it lacks performance ,also have you checked your sag on rear of both and do you know length of travel on cobra rear shock ???
Perfect ! I have been wanting to add a front hub motor to mine , I am all about the off road benefits , I felt like the only one until I watched this , thank you , I hope someone can tell me the best way to do it to my E-bike , why don’t you like the direct drive motor ? Are they different than a typical hub motor? , im new at all this ,
I've been running awd bike for a few years now.. No way I'd ever go back to a single hub. I'm running same setup as you as of now.. but I'm waiting on a geared hub for the front. I think it will lighten the bike up a ton and also make it have more torque. I'm also changing phase wires out to 10ga and going to run 60v 25 amps through the rear and probably 15 to the front.. should be fun!
Awesomely informative, as always! Can't help but to notice the wall racks for the e-bikes in the background... can you share the info on where to get them?-
Man I got torque washers AND torque arms now. I learned the hard way , I sheared the front fork off my 1st ebike build on a test run and was Mad AF at myself.
Nice job. Your ebike building skills continue to evolve. I am more a high power mid drive guy aka BBSHD but your hub motor wider tired bikes are very cool. You like power and I like power. My bikes are more set up for performance pedaling....less upright, more stretched out. We are about the same size. All good under the big ebike tent. Thanks as always for the great content.
"GREAT JOB" per usual you sure make it interesting . I know you said you wasn't worried about speed but just for my info what is it's top end ????? My new "Wired Cruiser" should be arriving in the next 3 weeks and I'm already considering either putting a conversion kit on it's front wheel or doing one for my "Himiway Cruiser". The reason being , I don't own a regular vehicle only Ebikes, since I'm on disability I couldn't afford a new car or a used one with all the issues that come with and this is so much more affordable for my situation and i enjoy it .
Was good idea to put direct drive motor on front as that allowed the increase in top speed. If he had used a matching motor to the rear the top speed may not have increased.
what are your specs on each of those motors? are they the same voltage? If one Voltage is higher than the other and you use both, shouldn't the one with the higher one override the other making it useless?
I like the idea of being able to not take that stuff on front and leaving just the motor if you want. The bike I have would be able to hold all the stuff on the huge rear rack .. Just need a wire to the motor and throttle ran up.
Awesome video as always enjoy your videos. I know that you are in the Carolina's ....... If you advertise ....... someone will have a AR Grizzly to borrow for testing. I own a V3 Grizzly plus a Wired Freedom 60 volt e-bike. With both motors on ..... the Grizzly will eat the Freedom for torque and top end speed for me. I am 6 foot 2 ....... 230 pounds. Of course that is a major factor. Keep up the great videos.
👋 I just finished my twin engine project but feel like the front engine pushes me more like it has better power than the rear engine. They are identical but I don't know if it's just my feeling, what do you think based on your experience?
Hello Mr. Citizen, cool Video of the pimped cobra! I want to buy the cobra also and want to change some stuff on it. I personally dont like that shifter that it has and would like to change it with a rapid fire shifter. But somebody told me that the shifter is directly connected to the right brake lever. Is this correct, or can i swap it without any problems? I really would appriciate a helpfull answer, or maybe you could even show this detail on your next cobra video if there is more to come? Thank you in advance and have a nice day!
Some bikes you can’t use throttle, without front motor kicking in? The need to control both motors separately seems paramount to a best usage of a AWD, great idea with the throttles
I think the type of motors you've used complement each other very well. Geared hub motor on the rear for torque off the line and a standard hub motor on the front to boost top end speed. Depends on what you want the bike to do I guess. Acceleration off the line, top speed or an all-rounder that pulls off the line well and has a high top speed. I once saw a RUclips video where a guy just had a huge ungeared hub motor on the rear (probably 2 to 4,000 watts) and from memory he got it up to 90 mpg. Geared hub motors are not the best for high speeds The small gears in there turning at incredibly high revs, getting hot and very noisy (as we heard in your video) could be a recipe for disaster for a speed bike I think.
Ok, it looks like we have another Frankenstein bike happenin' here. I like how you kind of sort of put it together in a preliminary way later to be refined. I take it those are the safe forks?
I have that same hill here at our World Series of Little League field. Where the World series of of little league baseball is played on TV every year. Full battery the Kepler makes it up from a 5 foot running start 😂 .. I should check the grade officially though. At the bottom I need PAS to get up in 1st or 2nd gear.
I got the Philodo H8 with dual 1Kw hubs and once it gets old in the tooth, I'll be upgrading to 60v/40w system w/2Kw hubs. The bike runs rear only PAS and throttle both hubs; gets me to 31Mph!
I would also like to see U create a Wired Freedom awd w/2,000 watt front hub motor....⭐ 38+ mph stock -----> 44+ after conversion ? 35mph on Himiway is very good...Great idea 💡
I rode a BH dual motor bike on an off road 8 mile 3,000' ascent once and climbing was super, but the return trip was the worst ever on a MTB. Too much unsprung weight!
That’s a shame that the stock Cobra was unable to power up the hill. The price & name should’ve been able to do the job. However you are showing all wheel drive is the next choice for me when I build, or purchase another plus size ebike.
Nah it's worse then having to custom cut the spokes, you have to order the right size, 😮 they have spoke length calculators but they're kind of complicated. I figured out a good way to estimate though using the Pythagorean theory and some weed wacker line, and a set of calipers.
341/2 nice my 62 yr old body want on one i’m short, though would I be able to step through one of those 4’. 4-10 not sure my husbands like you’re gonna break a hip I’m like what a way to do it I was a girl Rays was all boys
Looking to see more oh I’m in Fla where you at ????? I’m a transplant from New Jersey. Lololol I worry my family and grandkids to grand son encourages it. I tell him I got a I watch. I’ll let you know if I’m in trouble.
I’ve had one for tho years now, ride it almost everyday and other than the display coming on automatically if I try to turn it off, it has been working great
Just a head's up. AWD for bikes has been tried and dropped because it's dangerous. When turning and accelerating, even slightly, the front wheel tends to track differently from expected, typically resulting in a rather fast 'high side', event. As in you get flung towards the outside of the corner.
AWD drive isn't my cup of tea either...but, he didn't fall did he? Why can't an experienced rider learn to de-throttle the front wheel when turning? Yes, many ebike riders don't have much riding skill, but many of us that come from high performance motorcycle riding and racing know how to control a lot of power whatever wheels are being driven. Lots of front hub motor ebikes throughout the world with no rear drive as well....thousands throughout the world. I would have no problem whatsoever controlling a separate throttle ebike with 1500 watt hub motor on each wheel, because I can ride anything.
@@lukewalker1051 , An RM 250 was given shaft transfer drive down the fork leg to the front wheel. It shared power 50/50 between the wheels. In all other respects the bike was standard. As I said, it typically results in a 'high side', event. Even with a wealth of experience and fast reactions this particular effect happens very quickly. Kind of like having a rug whipped from under your feet sideways. But, please believe you're different, see how it go'es.
Do not waste time, the top of the hill is Defender S with 3 bateries, 750W motor big enough alone and still efficient at range 15 to 25km/h with 2x750W nicely spread power and with min 2 better 3 batteries you beat at 30km/h any moped or much more powerfull el motorbikes in range. If you go over 35km/h it is not more cycling you need full safety gearv you do not listen birds but blasting air , pedalling is useless you get much more by reducing your air profile so reduce you hight 20+cm. If look for speed without efficiency moped is solution not pedalling.
Thanks for the ride!! I have the dual motor 750 EMX-Extreme and will agree that independent control of each will is an absolute must.
Watching your channel is the next best thing to riding my modified Rad Runner 1.
How about a Wired Freedom AWD?
That would be insanely powerful lol. If all goes as planned, in about a month or less I will own a wired freedom
I was ready to order a wired, but it turns out my property taxes in Colorado or exactly the price of a wired.

Am I able to put 4 in tires on my cobra instead of 4.8 in ones? I really want to put some maxxis fat tires on but they don’t make a 4.8 only 4in
an 80mm rim should be able to handle down to 4 and up to 5 inch tires.
Omg what brand front motor is this
Hay bro why didn't you use the himiway rino ?
It has 2 batteries already integrated in the frame. Do one ??
Unfortunately, I don't have access to a rhino, but that would probably be a great starting point for a dual motor bike.

To much drag on the front wheel. That dd motor creates a hell of a drag when not in use. Gonna be a battery eating fool.
That's it, i also come from motorcycle so these ebikes weight nothing, power when compared to motorcycle is nothing . So i guess it's easier for us
A third light oh myyyyy🫨🤩
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Himiway Cobra AWD will morph into another Citizen Cycle project
