    One additional thing I should point out here is that during the physical exam it is advisable to look at/feel for the prolapse when the woman is standing up, too. Some will be worsened with gravity.

      One correction, space of Retzius is the retropubic space, space between pubic symphysis and the urinary bladder and not the one between urinary bladder and anterior vaginal wall.

    Dr. Bolin, there's one small error in the video. Space of Retzius is the space between the symphysis pubis and the bladder whereas in the video, it is shown to be the space between bladder and uterus.

    Thanks for this video I am a 29 year old mother of 3. I had all big babies and the first at 16 and the last 2 close together and I noticed a prolapse to were I could feel my cervix a cm away from the vaginal opening inside. I noticed it 3 or 4 weeks after the birth of my 3rd baby and I did pelvic floor exercises for 6 months as advised by my gp/Dr and saw slight improvement I carried on another 3 months instead of having the surgery done as I wasnt keen on it and so glad I did as I have seen dramatic improvements after that. It changes when I lay down or stand up but my cervix is naw about 5cms away from vaginal opening so I don't have the depth I used to have but I can deal with it. I also have urine incontinence but am just sadly putting up with it at the moment as I don't think much can be done but maybe I'll go back and ask again. Thank you so much for your advice and information helps me to make a more informed decision.

    My mother had vaginal prolapse surgery in 2018. Doc put a mesh inside of her and she was suppose to have a total hysterectomy. she started having issues in 2020 itching in the vaginal area and the doctor gave her estrogen cream. Same issue still exist along with UTI’s now. She’s bleeding like a teenager @ 77 years old… we requested her medical records which states that she did have a total hysterectomy but after an examination from Gynecologist recently he determined she still has her cervix & uterus..she did not have a total hysterectomy. she doesn’t want to have the mesh removed because of how painful it is…. I have to mention each time she went to the doctor who performed the surgery the doc found that nothing was wrong.. WTH!!!

    Could a pelvic organ prolapse cause the woman to have what looks like a missed period when in actuality the vagina is blocked so menstrual blood and tissue starts building up in the uterus?

    • @mahir4877
      @mahir4877 6 лет назад +2

      yes, and it leads to pyometra if it stays fr significant longer period!

    I am 50 and was just recently diagnosed with a cystocele with uterine prolapse. I have also been having vaginal bleeding (it is not a period). I had an ultrasound done and was told I have endometriosis. Is this bleeding normal with endometriosis? My prolapse bulges outside of my vagina. It is extremely uncomfortable. I made an appointment with a specialist (urogynecologist). Sorry for the mis spelling. Does this sound like it warrants surgery?

    Also please answer if you can but my periods have changed since having the prolapse they are lighter and more watery. I am 29 is this related or could I be going into early menopause?

    The thing with the rugae: Important to note bcs if no rugae = hint that it could be apical (bcs no rugae on dome?) or some rare form of cystocele?
