This video just popped up. I am so excited for a few reasons. One, I absolutely miss being in the west, going down all kinds of trails like this with my now late husband and our dog. I haven't gotten through the whole video yet, but just seeing your video and the title immediately reminded me of when my late husband & I got stuck in the Prescott National Forest. We didn't have cell phone service or anything. Normally, he was always like "it will be ok." On this day it was the total opposite. I saw a huge bird flying high above us, and I remember being told by someone months earlier that in their culture (Native American) that when you see a bird flying high it's a good sign. They believed that it represented that your prayers were being lifted up to the Lord in Heaven. Normally, I can be anxious, but I just felt calm and peaceful. My husband was saying "We're in the middle of the forest, and we might be out here for a while. He said we might die out here. I don't know I just didn't feel that way. I don't know maybe within a half hour a truck came up to us, and they were out searching for someone else who apparently was lost. Ironically, if we didn't get stuck then the other truck might not have found the other party we saw earlier on, and we knew the way back to where they most likely were. I had pretty much all but forgotten about that day. Thank you for posting.
@jonnytacooutdoors Thank you so much for your reply! Silly question I have been feeling like I should try to put something online with stories of faith and encouragement. LOL, the funny thing is I am not on social media, and I joke around that I'm out there with Laura Ingalls and the wagon/and or a fossil. LOL, my students say that is because I'm "like 30 years old!!!LOL 🤣 I really don't know how to get started, how to upload, or add text to video etc. Would you be able to offer any type of advice or assistance? Thanks a bunch! I can't wait to see more videos from you. 😀
This is what live is about the sweet and the sour but Jonny you take the challenge and been declare a winner this is overlanding at its best. Epic footage and drone footage out of this world take care and thanks for a great episode Jonny
Bummer the spindle broke on you, but you dealt with it with a little help from friends and the community. Plus it led to worthwhile upgrades. Looking forward to the next episodes.
No way! What’s up man! Good times. I think you being stuck was a sign I needed to turn around and not head up into that deep snow by myself. Thanks for checking out the channel.👊🏻 let’s link up and go get stuck in the snow.
Breaking down in the middle of nowhere has got to be the worst. This video is a great example of how the off-road community helps each other above and beyond. Glad you’re home safe. 👍🙏🏼
Holy Shit Bro!!!! Your spindle!!!! That don't look good 😲 And, intro to the Stunning Sunrise! Beautiful! Your drone footage! 😲 Man, im so sorry this happened! Hell Yeah, fade to Hector! OMG! I'M DYING RIGHT NOW! Poor Taco Truck! That is CRAZY! Definitely, not an easy fix bro! The COMEBACK is ALWAYS GREATER, than the setback! Onward & Upward! Looking forward to the final chapter in this book! 🙏🤘

And another thing.....Don't relies on modern GPS either. People have perished here in Nevada because they followed their GPS got stuck, lost, and died out there. No reason not to have paper maps with you!!
@@kenuber4014 Absolutely. Those paper maps are essential for overlanding. I have a stash of paper maps of the places we had traveled and overland. AAA is a wonderful source for free maps if you're a member. USGS is another source.
Wow what a sunrise!! Great scenery. Bummer about the spindle failure. Welding on some materials is tricky and can increase likelihood of cracks. Plenty of science behind all of it. Still going to get myself a Tacoma in year or so, just hate to pay the $$ 😢. Im cheap 😂 All vehicles have failures from time to time and from the vids I've seen u don't abuse your Taco. Upgrade is worth it. Keep the good content coming and thanks.
well i think you can say you got fair use out of it before it broke you sure do some amazing driving in these videos... glad it was in a flat area like you said could have been way worse/ / at least you get an extra adventure out of it .... nice job mostly self rescuing, thanks for sharing the adventure.
Two things I hate about the Tacoma- #1 17:05 hitting my damn head when I get in the truck, roofline needs to be higher or seats lower and im only 5’ 09”!! #2- stupid ass IFS. This is not a sports car, IFS does not belong on a truck. Straight axles are far more stronger and reliable. Unfortunately, we have very little choice.
Awesome video. Made me wonder if I am truly prepared for a major mechanical breakdown, time to do some evaluating. Quick question, maybe I missed it, but why were you pulling your buds truck at the end?
Dang that's crazy! You weren't really going that fast either or drop the front end super hard. Is this similar to the LBJ issue on the older gens? Curious to see if anyone else is breaking spindles and if this needs to be a Toyota TSB for 3rd gen owners.
@@jonnytacooutdoors great channel brother ! So does this issue only arise if you mod the spindle? you mentioned it was heated then cooled. are the OEM spindles weak? You're videos are quite suspensful! very fun to watch ! i'm not 4wd but would like to join yall on some easy trail adventures. thanks
I didn't catch why the spindle broke, did you just hit a rut really hard? What a nightmare though, thank God you were in cell range, things would have been way worse if you couldn't get a call out. Glad it worked out.
Who performed the welding job on the gussets? This can be done/welded properly by only a very well experienced welder as the OEM Tacoma gussets are thin as to why add-on gussets exist. At least for now, your new/upgraded gussets are the last thing you need to be concerned about. Glad you are OK!
OR...you could drive a vehicle without a weak-ass IFS system. Especially if you're going to run extra heavy like that, likely over GVWR. Seriously. SMDH. #SolidFrontAxleForTheWin
I hooked up to his truck since I had no brakes and it was steep. It was hard to see how steep it was in the video and my focus was getting the truck off the dirt and not filming so I took some quick iPhone video. 😁

Thanks for your help man! Our deep snow video posts next week pretty stoked for it.
I can only imagine how stressful that must have been. Props to you for handling it the way you did!

You're lucky you had cell service. It seems everywhere I travel I have no service at all. Good job getting it done

Why gusset plate the OEM if that actually makes it weaker?

There isn’t a lot of head room I have seat jackets and I hit my head sometimes if I hit a bump and yes IFS isn’t ideal but I still love the tacoma.
Great video!!
Thanks Dad

Hit a big rut at about 45mph. Things worked out ok.😎🙏🏼 thanks for watching.
Welding the gusset must have compromised the steel…time for upgrading spindles 🤙🏽
Upgraded to Camburg spindles
The grain structure on the stock spindle is HEINOUS no wonder it broke

Some of your trouble is you run those Wheel Spacers. Those are junk and totally change your steering geometry.

I can't believe the spindle stem snapped. WIld.
Drive it like ya stole it
