Wet Sand Blaster - Sand Recovery

- We use wet sand for sand blasting and plan on recycling it as we will need to run about 30 tons through the blaster. Just shoveling it back into the blaster does not work because it only takes a small piece of trash to plug up the line. So we now have our own DIY sand wash plant.
verry cool your whole Channel is a case study on how to think outside the box keep up the good work
I like your ideas, but the best idea I see here is that you and your wife are so pleasantly enjoying working together My little lady and I work like this every day, laughing and cutting up ! Love it keep the spirit !
I just wanted to comment and say that I love how much fun you and your wife have together its refreshing to see a good "Real" relationship.
Making/testing these tools looks like just as much fun as building the boat!
Thanks for the tip, jamcat. Spares are always a good idea.
You are doing a great job. Love to see your funky ideas to build something the cheap way with things that are easely available. Carry on ! And have a nice trip with the boat, I think you all will miss the work !
Rube Goldberg reborn!! :)) We use those pumps at work! They can handle an amazing amount of trash in suspension. Buy a few spare impellers, they wear down under constant use. Good work there! :)
Cool idea , Ya those Cam locks for pumps are the answer for removing the hoses .
necessity is the mother of all invention. Nice work!
that sand sifter is totally awesome another great idea
Hi mate.
The air compressor might be a good addition to the boat. it might help raising sunken vessels. The Army uses big bladders, called bravins, for the storage of petrol, diesel, and all kinds of fluids. They would be handy to put in a vessel and than blow up with the big compressor. Sometimes those bravins come up for sale, and they are used for kids to play and jump on them. they might also be great for tourists to have a floating island. Its' just a thought.

Hi guys, I stumbled across one of your videos about three months ago and I have watched many many of them. I just wanted to say I think you are awesome! I appreciate that you take the time to make the videos and share them. I really enjoy your videos and I always learn a lot . I want to wish you the best of luck in your endeavors and I am looking forward to the video of the boat sailing away into the sunset.
It's a bit like just messing about in the shop when we were kids but now there is a purpose to it.
Thanks! Glad you've enjoyed them so much. We are also looking forward to that video. :)
it looks like a mining trommel to get gold out of gravel! Great idea sholud save allot of sand if your pump is a dirty water or mud pump. keep the videos coming
Brilliant, well done guys
Yes, we do and Doug is the thing-a-ma-jig maestro. We like to refer it as "fabricating". :)
Thank you, guys! (Your very own DIY sand wash plant.) Cool stuff!! :-)
Yeah, we thought that the sand would loose it's ability to scour the metal but even if we get 30% more use out of it, that's 30% we've saved. We what really trying to avoid is hauling 30 tons of sand to our backyard. We certainly got clay here in Oklahoma, but even our garden doesn't need that much sand. :)
re using sand will work ok first time but every time it blast it will loos some of the sharp edges and tuner to a powder keep up the good work
Man you could take on the Chinese with that set up !😂👍
Thanks, SyzygyTwstd! We do have fun together, even after 33 years! Takes a lot of work but it's worth it!
Hah! I like that! Bug zapper melds with death ray. Cool!
Thanks, Bill!
Yep, we figured it would be cost effective to recycle the sand if we could come up with a somewhat straightforward and inexpensive way to do it. Next we'll try it out on the hull.
I saw a guy who hooked a big gas powered trash pump to some tubing and the intake end went to the center coil of his metal detector and he went in the water and when he got a hit he sucked the sand and metal object into the pipe that had a wire mesh basket on the out take end. when you get the boat done you can go treasure hunting and use your pump to salvage some booty. Arrr!
I don't think we are ahead. I still see lots to do, but I am looking at paint now and then. We are going to paint the bottom of the keels soon, as it will be our only opportunity. But anything we put on there is going the get abraded by bouncing on the bottom. Do you have a paint recommendation?
Now, that sounds like a plan! We'll just repurpose (such a corporate BS word) Doug's big gun.
Yep, hopefully, we'll be able to reuse the sand.
very resourceful!
I bet you have had to build a lot of tools, jigs, and other contraptions in the process of building the boat.
Thanks! I don't think there's even a box anymore. :)
so you must be thinking about paint soon. are you ahead of schedule?
can we use the wet sand for next blasting or we have to dry the sand before it is re-used?
No. This is the video you need to see: ruclips.net/video/RGiQGOhvsHM/видео.html
How about Polyurethane Spray Truck Bedliner (also used in ponds)? Not technically a paint but could protect the keel somewhat.
You're welcome. :)
nice shed made out of bus body
Sombodies minds in the gutter
now i see lol your out there but funny clever lol
...that's what she said.
Why does it take so long to get videos up?
Great job on all your videos. I seen a sand blaster on line that recycles it's own sand for You. A bit pricey but I know you could built it cheap.Works great on flat surface. On one of your videos you said you had to cut a lot of bolts or threaded rods down then you had to grind them. Have you ever put the nuts on the bolts and then cut to lengh. then very lightly grind end then when you take the nut off it it re-threads itself. rewww.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_138744_138744
