The actor in the film is Vladimir Mashkov playing as Sasha, a serbian sniper. A former sharpshooter in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympic team. He inspired Rockstar for the main character in GTA4 known as Niko Bellic.
Jaume Haddad Sanz Yeah, I wanted to see a movie about Serbs fighting in the Balkans, instead I saw it was a fucking American Propaganda film, thanks anyway though.
+Josh23761 Ahh I see.. I know another one maybe you'd like. Savior. Not as Hollywood as Behind enemy lines.. Plus you see Serbs fighting in the Balkans.
I always wondered what army during the Yugoslav wars he was in. He is Serbian so of course he fought on the Serbian side. Although there were some Serbians who fought with the Croations and other ethnic groups for a culturally coexisting Yugoslavia. But since he claims to have taken part in war crimes I would have to say he fought on the Serbian side. Although the other groups did also do fucked up shit, the Serbs were infamous for it. And he is clearly very well trained, so that leads me to believe that he was part of a well organized, and well trained army rather than a militia or something. He couldn't have been in the Yugoslav peoples army since it was completely dissolved in 1992 when he was 14. And while niko says he joined when he was a teen. It is unlikely that the professional army of Yugoslavia would have taken him. I think he most likely was in one of the better trained Serbian paramilitary groups. They were involved in most of the ethnic cleansing, and probably would have happily accepted a teenage Niko. If any of my information is wrong, feel free to correct me. Just don't be a dick about it.
+jared iscool I think he is a bosnian serb. Because of his young age at the time he is most likely to be a part of the paramilitary groups, either that or he fought at the very end of the war at around 17 or 18 years old. I am not sure about how large the use of child soldiers in that war was. He is unlikely to have fought for the croatian defence council or the bosnian serb army. The guy he tries to hunt down who betrayed him says something about having other friends that Niko and his squad killed. I think it is likely that Darko or what his name is had bosnian muslim friends, since the three ethnic groups used to live peacefully together before the war and often intermarried. He betrayed them because he got pissed off by the cruelty of the serbian paramilitaries against his friends.
Niko was born in 1978 and the Bosnian war went from 1992 to 1995, so he was underage when the war started. He most likely joined a paramilitary group, probably fighting for Republika Srpska. He later probably joined the regular forces, where he was trained as a helicopter pilot.
I feel as if Rockstar could of done a better job with Darko (the man Responsible for the Massacre of his Comrades). They could of had the reason for the Massacre be because of Moral Reasons, Not Financial Reasons. Darko: "You know what Niko, You want to know why I did what I did?" Niko: "Yes Why would you betray of us all like that", Darko would say "You know, I joined the army long ago for a cause. A cause better then my myself, and you know what I saw? I saw a group of Savages, Absolute Savages. Day in Day out of Raping, Pillage and moving on. I got sick of it" Niko: "But Why try to kill us all?". Darko: "Do you know how much strain it puts on a Mans Mind for the Atrocities hes Committed? Sure I could leave the Army, but my Conscious wouldn't settle knowing that those Savages are committing War Crimes while I could of Done something to prevent it. The Final Straw Happened when I saw you and our other Comrads pulling an Innocent Bosnian Family out of a house and killing the father right in front of the children, All because they are Civilians of the Enemy". Niko: "I Dont know what to say Darko". Darko: "Kill me if you must, but deep down I did the right thing, I can die happy knowing that"
Dale Gribble My friend. This is by far better than the reason they put into the the game. I imagine myself replaying the mission for the first time but with this motivation. It would most likely bring tears in my eyes because darko would have been so right. And it would make the player really reconsider their choice. And especially. It would have been such a great climax for the still amazingly written plot of GTA 4.
Dale Gribble Leave the writing to the proffessionals please, that's a cringy script, not everything needs to be explained that's just bad writing, sometimes it's good to leave things ambiguous for the players to think about.
The rest of the GTA main characters are either about street gangs or a group of people. Typical boring scenario. Niko was a russian, combat trained, armed mercenary fighting for survival and a decent life. That's how you do it! I miss GTA 4.
That is crazy. Niko Bellic was in Arkans tigers. My dad fought for Arkananovi delije back in the 90s. He was an Arkananovi tigrovi too. This blows my mind. Serbian blood through and through
if anyone's wondering, the name of the movie is "behind enemy lines."
Good to know, thank you.
Thx
This is the victory we longed for.

Niko was a russian, combat trained, armed mercenary fighting for survival and a decent life. That's how you do it! I miss GTA 4.
He wasnt russian , he was serbo croatian
GTA IV Storyline is so touching!
he was a serbian. his father was russian who abused niko when he was a child. this is why Niko hates russians.
@@Sryloth why the fuck should Niko's father be russian???
The introduction could've started with Niko fighting in Bosnian War and escapes by swimming for his life.
Now this is called real history of niko Bellic
AMAZING!!!

I love this
If there was a movie made after this Vladimir Mashkov or Brian Callen should play Nikko Belic
