- Come for 2022 tour of my brothers lush tropical garden. It's amazing the difference one year has made. Come check out his beautiful assortment of flowering plants and tropical fruit some of which are year round production.
This backyard is a dream backyard! So peaceful and beautiful. I would not ever want to go inside!
It really is
It’s like a tropical paradise 🌺🌸🌺🌸
The caterpillars are not a "problem". The orange caterpillars will become Gulf Fritillary butterflies. Passion flower vine is host to both Gulf Fritillary and Zebra Longwing butterflies, which are white and black. They'll eat some leaves, but won't harm the fruit production. Butterflies are important pollinators. 🦋
Interesting. Thanks for the info. I never saw that kind of caterpillar. All their leaves and blossoms are pretty much gone. I'll pass this along to them
Yes! Came to say the same. Love to see Gulf Fritillary caterpillars on our passion vines. Definitely keep them and your garden will be full of butterflies! You'll also find zebra longwing caterpillars on your passion vines. They are white with black spikes.
This wasn't my experience, alas. I adore the Gulf Fritillary butterflies but the caterpillars ate all 3 of my passion fruit vines to where there are no leaves and certainly no fruit. Not sure what to do.
I love how you went shopping in your brother’s backyard 😂. It’s gorgeous.
😅

I really love the plant the flowers and fruits especially the cat tail flowers or I love that since I was a little kid and I would I wish I could have a plant oh you have to let me know how I can come over there in Florida I am in Virginia and one of the time I would have to come and get some plants OK thank you very very much it’s so beautiful God bless
THIS IS AWESOME
Thank you
Hi Pat. Your brother’s garden is beautifully maintained and so very productive. How does he keep his butterfly bushes so lush? I have several plants and the monarchs are constantly laying eggs then the caterpillars defoliate them. All but one plant that is hidden amongst other plants that’s currently in bloom. I don’t mind because I bought them for the butterflies. Another issue like your brother is my passion fruit. It’s about one year since I purchased it and one day I noticed that almost every leaf was nearly half gone. I’ve yet to see the caterpillars in action but I do see the butterflies. Zebra long wings I believe. I’ve fertilized it and it’s slowly coming back to life.
Anyways, thanks for the upload. That was a great tour. 😊

Beautiful
Thank you so much
I would definitely have a vacation at your brothers
Lol. Yes, it feels like I'm on vacation when I'm there

Backyard~How you doing?- thanks! beautiful , see ay!~
I'm great. Thanks so much for checking me out. Hope you're doing great too
The caterpillards are important!
They sure are
Try sppraing some epsom salt dissolved in water on your starfruit tree. The leaves will stop that nutrient deficiency and will turn nice and dark green. You should also try to do some "tipping" on your mango tree to make it produce more fruit. Watch Dr. Richard Campbell videos on how to do that.
Thanks for the tip! I'll let me brother know
Double bagging the mangoes is a smart idea, but these squirrels seems to be smarter🤣!
Lol true
To just came up on my recommendations and I love it. Would your brother send croton leaves wrapped in plastic bag(grocery) in envelope to another state? I'll pay
I can ask him. What do you do with the leaves? Wouldn't they sweat and rot?
Love this! I’m in south Florida as well. How often have you had to prune the star fruit and mangos to keep them at that size?
I'll ask my brother but I don't believe he printed the tops of the mangos. They get wider but not taller. It's those species that stay short. I'll ask about the starfruit
Msg from my brother - for star fruit, pruning is only to control lateral spread and that only once every few years for the star fruit. For the mangoes, at the end of each season I'll prune the low branches that cause the mangoes to sit on the ground
Some ppl has all the luck
Your brother has a beautiful oasis in his backyard. I wish sometimes Scottsdale had some Florida climate so I could grow these plants and not be fried to a crisp.😁Btw; Is your brother's pergola a pre-manufactured kit you can buy or custom made? If so can you share the name? Thank you.
Thanks so much! His pergola was custom made by a contractor in Florida
Pat, does your brother mind sharing the name of contractor that built his pergola and outdoor entertainment area? It is stunning. I am in South Florida as well. Thank you. 🙏🏾
Sure I'll ask him today and give you
Message me on IG and I'll send you his contact card. backyardfarmerpat there too
Or if you don't have IG you can email me at farmerpat@plantgroweatshare.com
I love that Starfruit aka Balimbing Tree. Most people don’t know that the Starfruit is pretty cold tolerant and is not just for South Florida.
I love it too. I have a tree and I live in central Florida
hi, love the garden! Did you say vervain for the blue like flower that keeps popping up in different places, at 5:24? I ask because we have the same thing happen and never knew what they are called. Any clarity would be amazing, would love to think something medicinal is growing well around here!
Yes I did. Here's another video I did on vervain. Make sure what you have is really vervain

@@backyardfarmerpat Thank you so much for sharing, that helps! This is exactly what we have in our front garden, as you said, the bees love it and it gets 4 ft tall. I'm definitely going to be binging on your videos now
@@AnneLikesMangoes wonderful thanks so much for watching❤️
I was wondering what kind of fertilizer do you use on your star fruits tree?
My brother said he buys any citrus and avocado fertilizer from home Depot. He's not particular about the brand
I loved watching. But I wud let that vine die backbto let the caterpillars become butterflies! The vine wud come back.
They let them live and the vibe came back. This video was a while back
It’s lantana not butterfly bush😊
Thanks. I believe it does attract a lot of butterflies though right?
What county in south Florida? The soil is richer in the lower part of south Florida.
Broward county
is it in orlando? which zone is it
This video is from South Florida zone 10b
is it miami? @@backyardfarmerpat
@@su0019 no. Ft Lauderdale
Tell her brother stop using his big words..😂❤
😂😂
@@backyardfarmerpat Just joking..lov ur videos..Fr.a Jamican girl..great job
@@angelaescoffery7728 lol thanks so much. I appreciate you😀
Those are gulf fritillary caterpillars and the passion vine is a host plant for them. They eat the plant, but it will grow back bigger and healthier the following year.
Thanks so much. We figured that out after 😀. Mine also had a ton of caterpillars this year.
AWESOME...WHAT PLANT(S) DO YOU HAVE FOR DIMENTIA/ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE...THX
I heard blue Porterweed/vervain is good for that but you should research to make sure
