Convoy C8+ (CSLNM1) vs M21B (CULPM1) Flashlight Comparison: Which is Best?

  • Welcome to my video where I compare the Convoy C8+ (CSLNM1) with the Convoy M21B (CULPM1). Now, I know what you're thinking - "This isn't exactly a 'fair' comparison, as both lights have different emitters." And you're right! But I wanted to take this opportunity to show you the differences between these two popular flashlights and LEDs regardless of the flashlight host.
    So, what's the bottom line? If you want a flashlight that really throws, go for the NM1. But if raw output is more your thing, the PM1 is the way to go. Just keep in mind that they both have very similar throw figures (assuming the same flashlight host and current), but the NM1 does have a bit more range. If you're trying to decide between these two amazing lights, make sure to watch this video before you make your decision!

    Both emitters are impressive! The CSLNM1 may throw further, but I prefer the CULPM1 for it's larger hotspot and greater spill, which lends it more usable for more everyday situations. Thanks for another nice review! BTW, which emitter did you prefer most?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Год назад +5

      Hey buddy, yeah I prefer the PM1 too. There's not a huge difference in throw compared to the NM1. Prefer the extra lumens of the PM1. I'm keen to see them increase the efficiency and release new emitters with low surface area/high output profile.

    I have the CSLNM1 in an L21B and it throws like mad. It isn't very useful for anything else though, the spill is just too light. I also have an M21B with the SFT40 and it is very impressive. The small head makes it not hard to carry, it can hit 700m and makes about 2000lm. The spill is quite good too and the hotspot is nice and wide.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Год назад +2

      Yeah the SFT40 is a more practical option if you can deal with less range. You get a much more usable beam with spill.

    I have the M21b with XHP70.3 HI R9050 and orange peel reflector. Comparing the C8 I had this the 21b has almost no hotspot and shines an enormously wide pattern. I’m very limited in the distance I have tried but I can say that it lights up an unbelievably large area not just a spotlight type pattern. The heat generated by the 21b is ridiculous in a very short time. To me this is a waste of energy and makes me very diligent about how long I use it at 100%. Is there anything you can share about my light I may not know?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  Месяц назад

      The host is being pushed to the absolute max in terms of heat dissipation. I have an 8A version and I can't hold it after a few minutes. You can select the 50% max grouping which may help. The M21B works as a long range light with smaller emitters. So the Osram CSLNM1 or PM1, SFT40.

      @@DarrenYeoYT I’d like an LED I can use at 100% for long periods when I need it. Not being able to freely use 100% mode is a waste. I have as more than happy with the C8 o had but gave it to my brother-in-law.

      @@DarrenYeoYT You think the SFT 40 will be a good alternative for my needs? I imagine both the driver and the emitter would have to be swapped out, correct? I imagine the runtime will also increase with a lower amperage output emitter and that’s always a good thing.

      I should mention my favourite feature about this configuration is the 0.1% mode, I find it very useful. I have zero use for any flashy-blinky mode.

    The M21B looks like if a M1 had taken steroids to gain mass, in terms of size looks similar to the C8, C8 wider head and M21B wider tube. Althought the C8 head it looks somewhat slim because of the tube on the other hand the M21B looks pretty bulkier.

    You should put time stamps up when you are testing the throw of each light. Easier when researching lights i can slip to the beam shot paet .
    Hard to tell which one is which during the tests and when you are switching back and forth too. Just my 2 scents. Great video tho!
