As a retired airline pilot I love this song. If you listen to the original recording you can hear Gilmore reading checklist items in the background; I think David wrote this after "Learning To Fly". Not a lot of hidden meaning here I suspect. David--thanks for all your great work.
The voice you hear is actually Nick Mason reading off the preflight checklist. Dave and Nick are both ardent pilots. Dave actually owned an airplane collection as a hobby then sold it when it took up to much of his time.
I had to watch this before I crashed ..Mr HDPinkFloyd what I really love about this is the way the lights embrace the audience at 3:25. That's so great

This song is beautiful. ALL songs are "commercial". Tell me a song that is not "commercial". Morons denigrate this [whole] album, saying that there are too many "synthesizers".....what an utterly ignorant and small-minded analysis. Thankfully, some of us are able to discern the underlying "Floydian" nature of ALL of the songs, on ALL of the albums - EVEN the ones that Roger tainted (too some extent) with his toxicity. This album is glorious, on every level - thematically, lyrically, sonically.
