1980 - 1985 களில் சேலம் டவுன் பேலஸ் தியேட்டர் எதிர் புரம் " ஓம் சிவசக்தி விநாயக ஸ்கந்தா" என்ற ஒரு ஹோட்டல் இருந்தது. அங்கு விடலியல் 6 மணிக்கு 5 வகை சட்னி யுடன் சிற்றுண்டி சுட சுட பரிமாறுவார்கள் சக்கரை பொங்கல் உடன். இது இன்று எத்தனை பெயர்களுக்கு தெரியும் என்று எனக்கு தெரியவில்லை. சேலம் என்றாலே உணவு அதுவும் சைவ உணவிற்கு பெயர் பெற்ற ஊர். சேலம் இரண்டாவது அக்ரஹாரத்தில் இரவு 7.30 முதல் மிட்நைட் வரை தல்லுவண்டுகளிலும் உணவு கிடைக்கும் அதுவும் மிகவும் சுவையான. இன்றும் சேலம் மாடர்ன் வைசியா கஃபே மிகவும் பிரசித்தி. எனவே சேலம், ஈரோடு, கோவை போன்ற மாவட்டங்கள் அருமையான் சைவ உணவகங்கள் உண்டு.
நம்ம பாயே சொல்லி விட்டார் அதிலேயே தெரிந்து விட்டது அந்த உணவகத்தின் தரம்

My childhood memories are etched in this hotel. They used to offer coffee and tea for just Rs 1.50 back in 90s.
I stayed at my Grandma's house in the same street close to Pillayar kovil and used to bring parcel from here. In the 90s we had to carry our own vessel to get parcel items here.
It is famously called Udupi Hotel in the locality...
