@@johnluu1106 Bruce was not fast, he was too fast... so how can you even be more than too fast :P Bruce was legendary - and I still love Donnie Yen for enough reasons! :)
No, the only way you would see the kick coming is when he stepped his supporting before kicking or he kicks slow, which he didn’t do any of the mistakes
Back in the 80s and 90s, Donnie often played villains, opposite bigger Kung Fu stars of that era like Jet Li and Jackie Chan. I think one of the most famous fights was Jet Li vs Donnie Yen in "Once Upon A Time In China".
Donnie Yen is impressive in his own right, but the fact that he managed to get THE ACTUAL BATMAN to demonstrate martial arts with him makes him a miracle worker!
Donnie got his big break in Hong Kong playing the main villain in Once Upon A Time In China 2 opposite Jet Li. But the huge success only led to him being type-casted or regulated to co-lead/supporting roles in the midst of Jackie and Jet's reigning period as lead actors in action movies
Been watching mr. Yen and his movies and having grown up with kung fu movie's I absolutely appreciate his work. Plus, I heard he's a pretty cool cat as well. Would like to see Hollywood appreciate him more because some of us still love true action films. Thank you sir for your work.
Awesome. I always love seeing Donnie demo his skills. His padholder is a guy called Bey Logan who used to edit a martial arts magazine called Combat. His articles were always really good. He ended up as a scriptwriter and worked on some Jackie Chan stuff.
Bernardo H agreed with you. white men actors they are bad guys.. I watched many jackie chan's movies.. stereotypes and cheesy. but if a Chinese man play bad vs white man good.. is it racist?
I live in Boston in his old neighborhood and study at the Bow Sim Mark Tai Chi Association with his family. Donnie has only gotten better with age and is an absolutely classical man. ❤️
Yes, there is footage of her in her prime and she was amazing. What a shame that so many schools in America teach watered down nonsense in place of kung-fu. But I guess they can't help it because they have to keep their doors open. And running a commercial school is the only way to do that.
His choreography is fucking gold now too, putting his MMA training into it as well! I think he's a BJJ purple belt and mixes it well in his fight scenes!
To set the record straight. On screen fighters like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, Sammo Hung would be much faster and deadly in a real fight. In their movies they are doing lots of fancy styles and overdo all their moves by loads for the shot. When Bruce Lee was around he was training world champions who had a difficult time getting close enough to hit him.
You are correct. But what did Bruce Lee do when he was on camera? He did exactly that. He also exaggerated his movements so that they would look clear on camera. You have to realize that in order to perform different styles on camera, these actors/directors/coreographers have to learn them first. And to be able to do it throughout their professional careers, they have to do rigorous workouts in order to be able to keep everything authentic looking. And that also includes sparring. Back in the days the old school actors you mentioned above, used to learn the entire set of movements and the application of the movements for every new movie project. Then they would spar with their colleagues for hours trying to figure out movements for fight choreography using those styles. So they have a lot of knowledge of different styles. With their skill set they might not become world champions in brutal full contact tournaments. But they are definitely better than most of us.
Yes, Kathy Long said that in real combat, you do not want your technique to be seen. In the movies, it is the opposite - you want your technique to be seen. Bruce Lee and Kareen Abdul-Jabbar had to slow down their fight sequences in Game of Death just so the camera could see what they were doing.
@@megasolrac287 Movie fights use mostly singular styles, not MMA as often. It's literally common sense that people in MMA use different things from these different styles, and they also said it was exaggerated in movies, so your comment lacks foundation.
The Tony Royster there’s actually a vid that compares the speed of both Bruce and Donnie, Bruce’s punch has the speed of 00.37 and his kick has the speed of 00.45.
