The Buffalo Bills are facing a salary cap nightmare, and it's all because of the massive contract they signed with Von Miller a few years ago. Despite a solid first season, Miller's performance has declined, leaving the Bills struggling to manage their cap space. With key players like Jordan Poyer, Tre'Davious White, Mitch Morse, and Deonte Harty released to alleviate cap pressure, the Bills are feeling the consequences of Miller's contract.

Yes it was a 6 year contract but the Bills have a get out clause after this season and will pretty much have no dead cap if they cut him this time next year if he’s trash again, and Miller took an 8 mil pay cut to help the team just 2 weeks ago

Harty was always going to be a 1 year deal, and morse has had what 7 concussions? I will miss these guys but none of those losses are anywhere near as big as he is implying.
He’s also not giving any credit to how much Von has helped the younger guys on the team like Groot or Epenessa. So if one of those guys turns out to be all pro, part of the reason will be Von Miller.

For me because he's on the wrong side of 30 and declining I would've only signed him for 12mil a year with incentives for 15mil max for 3 years because very few players are able to play at a high level past that 30 year mark and when he won his 2nd SB with the Rams his production came primarily from playing 2nd and 3rd fiddle to Aaron Donald and Floyd

As a diehard Bills fan and fan of your content I will say fully admit this is a bad contract. The contract has not panned out as we hoped because we sit still Lombardiless, we as fans understand that and yes hindsight being 20/20 we signed an old defensive end and we're paying for it. He also restructured his deal to give us valuable cap room to let us compete when quite frankly he did not any selfish reason to do so! This team is going through the painful fact that we missed our window and we have to get rid of talent that is not performing and that is hard to do, as a loyal fan to watch players you have cheered for be shown the door sucks man. I am proud of the team for making calls that have to be made and making hard decisions that allow us to continue to compete. The NFL is a game of inches not a game of feet when you get to championship contention, the Bills have much to prove and they have underperformed when the lights are brightest, I can only hope that by the actions of our stars who are willing to restructure and that has been shown by not only Mr Miller but also by Mr Knox as well as other players so that we may have a chance to continue to compete. Winning is about selflessness and Von is an emotional leader of our football team and I am happy he made a leadership decision. Win or lose this damn team has heart.

He is just way overpaid. That money should be going to a young up and coming star, not one on their decline.
He won't get another deal like this, think the bills were desperate to make a big signing but I'd rather have no big one than one like this. Only option now is to force a trade and give up draft capital to free up money.
If he was making 3-5 million I think most would accept that, he's more of a rotational player than every down player.

Yearly contracts are a terrible idea, and would more than likely balloon prices even more out of control. Think about franchise tag numbers for mediocre players. Players want stability, which is why most of them prioritize long term deals, so they know teams won't just leave them high and dry if they get injured.

I think I would’ve been ok has he not gone to a contender, but the fact he went to the ravens fur 9 MILLION A YEAR IS INSANE. It’s a guy punch I haven’t recovered from. It’s like every move the guarantees us a conference championship are the moves they avoid. They keep looking for the superbowl or bust move while ignoring the progression moves which us why we’ve stayed in the same state year after year. Other than qb i don't think any team should give a 32 year old player large sums of money long term. It just doesn't make financial sense given the significant production drop-off most positions have after 30.
Realistically, i don't think any player should account for more than 6% of the cap. That's a different discussion, though.

Here's the thing...players like Poyer and White would've been released anyway even if Buffalo hadn't signed Von. I agree, it was absurd to give him a SIX year deal at age 32, a 3 year deal would've been much more inline, but obviously Von wanted a certain amount of money and a 3 year deal would've made the cap hit each year even more ridiculous.
But even if they hadn't signed Von, they still have a $250 million dollar QB on the roster and would have cap issues to a degree, and the fact is Jordan Poyer is 33 years old and now getting a bare minimum deal to play another year somewhere else. Tre White has suffered major injuries in the last two seasons, in which he played a total of 10 games, will be coming off an Achilles now at 29 years old. No guarantee he can be a productive corner in the league anymore. Rest of the league sees what the Bills saw, and it's why he's still a free agent despite being under 30 and a former all-pro CB1.
The Bills and their fans revere these two guys but it's just the way it goes in this game/business. Buffalo has to get younger, substantially, if they want to continue giving Josh Allen the best chance to win in his prime.
