Thanks for the comment! Yes, I definitely want to make these videos. Most likely already before the end of the summer. Also, I slowly started preparing a video about problem solving strategies, which is mostly focused on mindsets to have while studying etc. 🙂
My challenges will be: -to become my high school's top 1 -to become the best at physics and perhaps join competitions -to overcome the language barrier I moved to a foreign country 2 years ago where the language is completely different from english (it's japanese) and because I didn't go to a japanese middle school I struggled throughout the first year of high school. I thought I was just stupid and would never be successful academically in a japanese school where most of the students perform well academically. However, when I got one of the highest scores in my physics exam, I became motivated and inspired to work harder. Today was the day I found out I got one of the highest in physics class. So I am really lucky to have stumbled upon this video because now I am more motivated than ever. Thank you so much for making quality content. I'm looking forward to your future videos!
YOU ARE TRULY AN INSPIRATION Thank you for sharing your story I am 18, living in Hungary, and I want to be an electrical engineer. You motivated me so much, and I think so many people with this video. Thank you so much Samuel ❤️
My goals for the next year are: 1. learning how to code and create my own app 2. winning either the math, robotics or logic Olympic at my school Ps: love your videos! Extremely helpful and motivating
Hi Samuel, I am obsessed with engineering and I have many goals to accomplish. My biggest obstacle are my family problems, economic issues and my current environment. I'm setting goals for this year: -Firstly I'm going to overcome problems in my life. - I'm going to be the first in my uni, just like I used to be in high school. I'm gonna get the scores that I deserve. - Get an internship in the company I want. - Improving my network and connections in other universities - Starting my company that I couldn't dare for 2 years. I am going to achieve these in my way, people will think I am mad, as they used to but eventually I'll get what I want. You challenge me, So do I, I challenge you Samuel, let's see who is gonna be that one, after a year ⚡👊🏻
1. find something Iam passionate about - because if am exciting about what i do ,i do not have to constantly force myself to focus & work on that 2. If i want to accomplish something big ,i have to become completely obsessed with it - staying average needs to become my biggest fear & enemy. be fixed upon my life goal is to make a big difference in my life & life of others , i will have to work very hard & have to pay hefty price , my objective in life is not maximizing happiness. 3. Try every opportunity at least once that comes my way- don't be afraid to come out of my comfort zone, just say screw it lets do it! many might be distraction to your current curriculum/Carrer path, be open to have non linear traditional trajectory of being a university professor.
My goals for this year:- 1.Participate in all the activities that have to do with coding in my uni. 2.Get a software job in any big tech company. 3.Stick to my schedule. 4.Optimize my studying methods to be more productive.
Goals for the next year: - Bachelor´s degree average of 1.8 or better - 100kg bench press - Another working student job or internship - Plan a semester abroad - Improve English to C1 level
Excellent goals Niclas, Here is some motivation for your bench press: ruclips.net/video/FJRMldSmy-M/видео.html 😂💪💪💪 Also, I’m releasing a fitness video soon with some cool tricks for making quick progress :)
Thanks for this video Sam, I reallly needed to see this today! My first challenge would be to publish an undergraduate research paper in an area of mathematics I’m passionate about. My second challenge would be to write the Putnam exam this December. My third challenge would be to use quantitative methods to start investing. Let’s see if i can get it all done!
I had a very rough start. My undergraduate academic record is terrible. I have no credentials worth bragging about; I'm not special. Yet, by some miracle, I still managed to start my career in a research opportunity straight after graduating. This video gave me a massive boost in motivation to aspire for a Ph.D. My research interests align with yours, though I'm more interested in realizing quantum computers. I hope it's never too late to prove I can be an asset. My path may not be as smooth as yours, but I am determined to reach that level.
I’m doing a research program in biophysics this summer and it’s my first major research experience. At the end of the program I get to present at a national symposium and I want to win an award.
Thank you sooooo much for sharing your story! I also got rejected from MIT and felt I’m a loser, even got depression….. This video did really helpful right now 🤓
by sharing the struggles is really inspiring. More videos about struggles like the period of between "MIT faliure" and "got admitted to MIT"? You got me inspired to choose Building Technology to my master studies. Thank you!
Thank you Samuel, this video came at the right time! I am about to do my A-levels and this truly inspired me to do even more and to do great! Just as you did. I am striving to achieve financial freedom in the next 3 to 4 years, other than that I want to build a physique to he proud of, study at a highly prestigious university and try to help people improve their life, inspire them and make them realize their potential! I haven't exactly figured out how to fulfill the last of my goals but I will work towards that. Best regards :)
My goals: 1. Publishing my first or two papers in the area of natural language processing, hopefully top-tier conferences 2. Finding a undergraduate research opportunity for 2023 summer and being ready for my PhD application 3. Learning how to free diving
In the next 6 months, I'll be sending in applications to PhD programs in Philosophy. I'm planning to shoot for programs that have the best resources in Ancient philosophy: Oxford, Cornell University, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Texas at Austin. It's inspiring to hear from an MIT PhD candidate that excellence is less due to IQ and more due to dedication and being all-in study what you love.
Over the next 12 months, i would like to qualify for the UK IMO and IOI team. I understand that it will require a shit tone of work and effort ... however i think it's time that i finally commit to something and go out to achieve it. Wish me luck everyone, the journey begins here
Currently i am a computer science undergrad my only goal for next year is to able to do my thesis at a top shot university like harvard, EPFL, ETH, max plank. I dont know if am capable enough but i will try very hard and not settle for average. Thanks for this inspiring video!
Even though I was always unhappy with my grades since I had come to university, I've never had the drive to to invest a lot of time into my studies and I've always procrastinated everything up until the very, VERY last moment. In my last semester at university, I want to finish with an A in every subject that I have, to prove to myself that I too can be an excellent student.
I am a a level mathematics student who's waiting for the exam and I wanted to get the island rank .... wish me the best .! and all the best for your future.....
Thanks for sharing your story! I aspire to be excellent in competitive programming and greatly improve my programming and logic skills over the next 12 months. And I one day hope to make it to MIT. Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I am going to start my academical journey and study business and economics in the upcoming fall and i have clarified two main goals for myself for the following 12 months: 1. my high school gpa could have been way better and i challenge myself to finish my 2nd semester with a GPA between 1,0 and 1,5 (1-5 with 1 being best) 2. getting my first M&A internship during summer. my goal is to become an investment banker in london at one of the leading investment banks and therefore i need to really get my gut up and work for that I love your videos and personally find them undescribably motivating. your life story and your honesty is truly inspirational. thank you Samuel and lets see what happens in the next 12 months!
Wow this is super inspiring. I also have a unique international background and have felt as a complete outsider. Now I'm starting to get my foot into corporate finance
Idk why you say you don't have the personality for RUclips, even with "only" 10k subscribers, you're better in front of the camera than some channels with millions of subscribers ! My goal is to get all A's for the next 2 semesters and do well on the MCAT.
I wanna crack JEE to get admission is prestigious institutions in my country(India) in the next 4 months. Gonna work my ass off! See you after a year! Tysm for the golden tips. You are such a great motivation.
1. Get into fitness and balance out my nerdy lifestyle 😉 2. Become really good in the job I just started and add at least two successful projects to my portfolio. 3. Learn to love and maintain helpful routines and learn whatever is necessary to do so.
My goal for the next year would be: 1. apply for an online cs master focusing on HPC and ML 2. apply for a dual master's degree in ECE at Umich focusing on embedded system 3. learn a few more courses about fluid dynamics and complete my current mechanical master's degree at Umich
In the next 12 months, I plan to: 1. Declare my major at my UG. 2. Land a CS internship, either SWE or hopefully embedded systems. 3. Run my first marathon.
Hey Samuel. Really inspiring to hear your story. Would really like to hear about your study mechanism in high school! Anyway, good luck to your future endeavours! As for my challenges, I want to get into IISc which is best college in my country and really want to learn about chemistry, especially organic and physical portion and write some papers about it.
I am a mature Phd Software Engineering candidate incidentally I have a math background with no CS background so am on a very steep learning curve while working full time job and also on a startup - I think my uni too has not admitted someone like me before - so this video is very encouraging and timely - my Goal by this time next year to be finalizing my dissertation which represents my passion - the obsession part I’m getting there and it’s also about doing everything once
My goal for the next year is to: 1. Get a job as an Engineer at FAANG 2. Become a Masters Student at Harvard University Sn: A video on your study habits would be great!
@@relaxingsound8830 Not at the moment. I currently work at one of the top consulting firms. But I hold a bachelors degree in Neuroscience and a masters degree in Molecular Biology and Cell Physiology..
My challenges: 1. Prepare for triathlon competitions (the next one is on 21.8.2022) Try to have 2 times training per day 2. Prepare for physics competitions (Maybe also for informatics and math competitions) 3. Practice violin *bonus challenge: try to have 4.0 gpa (5.0 in Croatia) or close to 4.0 next school year
Challenges for myself (you better ask us in a year, Samuel!): 1. Participate in a software research paper (either in distributed systems or something else) 2. Contribute to a high-visibility open-source software project like Linux, Kubernetes, Postgres, or something else 3. Deadlift 315lb for 3 sets of 6 reps 4. Run a half marathon 5. Start an open-source software project with new friends from the software industry Happy to set more ambitious goals for myself!
I'm looking forward to know about your study methods! wow your journey was insane. So this is what it really takes to become successful. I truly admire you! I know you'll go far in life and thank you for inspiring me
1. Start and finish a bachelor's degree in mathematics while studying engineering. 2. Make my business reach a 6 figure valuation 3. Apply to MIT and Harvard of course :)
I love your channel so much, and this video specially well, in my case I'm another weirdo that does a lot and I'm working on my projects to get deeper into them instead of finding new stuff to do, but I do want to find a passion in a sport or physical area, because I'm a weakling nerd and I need some of that HEALTH, I don't know, maybe breakdancing, climbing, I've seen a lot of interesting stuff, I'd love to try in the next 12 months, I'll try
My challenges: 1. Stay on track with fitness / bodybuilding and do a complete year or 2 of bulking to see how big I can get. 2. Get a job that pays twice as much as my current one. 3. Travel the world. 4. Have my first child with my soon to be wife.
Wowww really ambitious goals. I wish you best of luck with all of them 🙂 good thing borders are mostly open for travel again! Here is some bodybuilding motivation for you: ruclips.net/video/FJRMldSmy-M/видео.html 💪💪💪
I'm currently a first-year engineering student at a New Zealand University and I hope I can achieve these goals by next year: 1. Get admitted to Harvard''s transfer programme (through their special concentration) 2. Undergo a mechanical/aerospace engineering internship 3. Work on research along the lines of aerospace engineering or astronomy 4. Work on a satellite-based startup Also love your vids man!!!!
@@SamuelBoschMIT Welp, a year later, and a lot has happened, lol. I am now a second-year electrical & electronics engineering student in NZ and here's an update from the previous goals: 1. I decided to wait another year to transfer to Harvard to get a better chance of getting in. Not only have I improved my academics but I've also improved the other aspects of my life! 2. I did an internship! A research internship that involved building a machine model to detect emotion within Te Reo Māori. Although it wasn't a mechanical or aerospace internship I had fun and enjoyed spending the summer on something I was interested in! 3. I haven't been able to do an aerospace or astronomy research project. However, I hope to be doing one soon! 4. Business is finally booming in NZ!!! My company is now starting to get recognised within the Aerospace NZ community and I am finally seeing some upward progress to it!!! I'm glad to have finally seen some progress and am looking forward to another update soon!
I love your videos! I too love Physics and Sports! I am a PhD candidate in biomechanics at the University of Iowa. I recently finished a 50 mile trail race. My next goal is to finish a 100K trail race and I want to balance research, trail-running, rock-climbing and relationships during this phase. My research goal is to develop a soft tissue displacement model in a low-dimensional parameter space that I can embed into a Perturbation Theory based human pose estimation algorithm
My goal for next 6 months would be 1. have daily exercise/ meditation ( which i do but it's not regular) 2. start studying research paper of my subjects. 3. start RUclips channel 4. maintain SPA (Indian universities)
I don't know how to feel about these videos. They are of course very inspiring but at the same time quite depressing as I didn't accomplish any of these things while already being 25 years old. So my goals are 1) finally finishing my bachelor's degree 2) get good at web development and find a job 3) Improving my viola skills to a point where I can play in ensembles/orchestras comfortably 4) find a kind of sport which I'm passionate about
Hey Nadeon, I don't think you need to worry about this too much. I also sometimes feel really old when I meet people at MIT who did crazy stuff already 5 years before me. With 25 you're definitely NOT too old to become really successful (in whichever way you define success) 🙂 Also, great challenges! 🎻 💻 👨🎓 🏃♂️
My goals for the next year would definitely: 1 - Get admitted on MIT Aeroastro master’s degree 2 - Build model design optimization algorithm for eSTOL vehicle 3- Found an startup for Urban air mobility market Thank you Samuel for your videos and tips. I really appreciate them
Great vid, very inspirational. Next 12 months , I wanna get a working student job at BMW or start a RUclips channel i guess or participate in one of those international engineering uni tournaments(and win ofc). To build, some cool shit. But I'll only attempt at one of these and go hard af. GL to all in the comment section
@@SamuelBoschMIT Haven’t put much thought into it . Imma see if I get an idea during summer break. But probs a less accomplished version of you but irronow
I'm a bit late, but my goal as an incoming sophomore in high school is going to be: 1. To take the 5 APs that will help me along what I want to do in the future (Calc, Physics, Chem, and Comp Sci tests only). 2. Compete and get a AIME qualifying score for the AMC10. 3. Compete in my schools varsity cross country team and badminton team. 4. Qualify for VEX Robotics Worlds competition. 5. Try to mentor a greater number of middle schoolers in different areas of math and comp sci.
By next year on 9/22/2023: 1. Get back to 150 lbs and get jacked. 2. Get involved in undergraduate physics research. 3. Get involved in a study exchange program in Japan. 4. Get started on paying back loans.
Great video! Definitely would like to know more about your study methods and time management. As for the challenges I set for myself, I want to: 1) Become a member of a student team at my University that competes at IFEC 2) Improve my GPA 3) Get an internship (probably gonna aim for Microsoft, we'll see) 4) Develop a habit for working out 5) Run a marathon
Thank you Dimitrije :) I'll definitely make videos about both quite soon! I love the challenges! Both academic and physical - that's always a good combination 🙂
I am an IMO aspirant, I am an Indian and I want to qualify the first level of Olympiad qualifier in India this year. (IOQM is roughly as tough as AIME)
My goals for the next six month to one year are: 1. Issued my first research paper related to molecular modeling of disorder systems.. This is a huge task principally for my lack of motivation for writing. 2. Got an internship abroad 3. Be admitted in the Erasmus program for material science because I wanna go to MIT for my Ph.D. in the same field. 🤞
Hi Samuel! Thank you for asking this question. I kind've got caught up in the rush of things and lost sight of my yearly goals. This is broad but the one thing I want to accomplish in the next 12 months is getting good at finance and exercising. I am an ambitious student who was drawn and pulled into the investment banking field. If my life and my skills were graded it would be 80%. I want to get an A on something. What does that look like? Generating ivy-school caliber results at my summer internship and developing my energy management, communication and learning skills. I believe I want to do something similar to what you are doing Samuel, but it first starts with me becoming great at something. Which can be achieved by acting (one of my interest) as if I was passionate and working hard. Great video!
I want to apply to be part of CERN Student Summer Program coming November and get selected. Thank you so much for such an inspriring video. I know I am a little late to this video, but these kind of videos don't have expiry dates.
Optimistic of the cool videos ahead! Looking forward to the year ahead 😄💪 My goals: 1. Build a gaming habit to develop my hand-eye coordination, 2. To SBD a total of 300 kg, and 3. Collect enough money to go on my graduation trip!
Hey Hegar, this sounds very exciting! Looking forward to see where this goes. 300 kg is a great goal for SBD - not many people can do that. I also like setting goals for SBD every once in a while 🙂
Thank you so much for your videos. They always help me to question myself and to go further. Good luck with your goals. I think it's great how open you are with your goals. Because I am rather someone who sets some and then executes them. Partly out of concern for what others might think or say about me if I don't achieve the goals I set. I would be very happy to see a video about the learning methods.
My goals: 1)Get into MIT 2)Pass IELTS exam for - 8.0 3)Pass SAT for - 1550 4)Learning programming and become a good at it 5)Participate Hakatons 6)Set up a little business which related to programming 7)Winning triathlon 8)Swimming through lake 9)Become a college president 10)Attend robotics 11)Winning start up competitions Yeah that's it. If anyone can give me a piece of advice or contact with,i would be glad
in the next twelve months, I would like to secure an insight scheme at a law firm. Further, I want to perform well in the leadership roles I have taken on in student societies in my university, since I promised to be better in my roles than any other candidates in the elections for these positions, and I think it is important to keep the promises we make to others. Finally, I want to make excellent grades in my second year of university, since I don't think I reached my full potential in my first year, and I want to prove to my parents that I can make the most of all the support they have given me :) I also think it would be great to see study method / time management videos from you! I know they must be hard to make, since your videos are always really thorough and planned out, but I think they would be really valuable to watch!

writing my bachelor thesis (and even beginning to write it) is a challengefor me. great content samuel!
Best of luck! 🙂
My challenges will be:
-to become my high school's top 1
-to become the best at physics and perhaps join competitions
-to overcome the language barrier
I moved to a foreign country 2 years ago where the language is completely different from english (it's japanese) and because I didn't go to a japanese middle school I struggled throughout the first year of high school.
Heyyy, thanks so much for your comment. I see we are/were in similar situations with language in schools!
Best of luck with your challenges! 🙂
YOU ARE TRULY AN INSPIRATION
Thank you for sharing your story
I am 18, living in Hungary, and I want to be an electrical engineer. You motivated me so much, and I think so many people with this video. Thank you so much Samuel ❤️
Hey Holdjáró, thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate it, and wish you best of luck with becoming an electrical engineer 🙂
My goals for the next year are:
1. learning how to code and create my own app
2. winning either the math, robotics or logic Olympic at my school
Ps: love your videos! Extremely helpful and motivating
Best of luck Zeno! :)
13:50 1. getting accepted to one of the best universities of my country
2. become top student
3.nail an internship in year 2 or 3 🙏🏿
Very ambitious, and I wish you best of luck with everything! 🙂
Hi Samuel, I am obsessed with engineering and I have many goals to accomplish. My biggest obstacle are my family problems, economic issues and my current environment. I'm setting goals for this year:
-Firstly I'm going to overcome problems in my life.
- I'm going to be the first in my uni, just like I used to be in high school. I'm gonna get the scores that I deserve.
- Get an internship in the company I want.
- Improving my network and connections in other universities
- Starting my company that I couldn't dare for 2 years.
I am going to achieve these in my way, people will think I am mad, as they used to but eventually I'll get what I want.
You challenge me,
So do I, I challenge you Samuel, let's see who is gonna be that one, after a year ⚡👊🏻
1. find something Iam passionate about - because if am exciting about what i do ,i do not have to constantly force myself to focus & work on that
My goals for this year:-
1.Participate in all the activities that have to do with coding in my uni.
2.Get a software job in any big tech company.
3.Stick to my schedule.
4.Optimize my studying methods to be more productive.
Awesome goals 🙂💪 best if luck!
Goals for the next year:
- Bachelor´s degree average of 1.8 or better
- 100kg bench press
- Another working student job or internship
- Plan a semester abroad
- Improve English to C1 level
Excellent goals Niclas,
Here is some motivation for your bench press: ruclips.net/video/FJRMldSmy-M/видео.html 😂💪💪💪
Also, I’m releasing a fitness video soon with some cool tricks for making quick progress :)
@@SamuelBoschMIT thank you. Lightweight Baby!💪😂
Heyy Elizabeth, excellent challenge! Best of luck with the publication and the Putnam exam 🙂
I would love to hear from your learning methods. Thank you!!
Already working on the script 😁
I will prove myself in computer science!!!!!!!!! Thanks man
Go for it!!! 💻 💪😊
Wow, bro, your story is incredible, I really admire you
I had a very rough start.
Best of luck! :)
Thank you sooooo much for sharing your story! I also got rejected from MIT and felt I’m a loser, even got depression….. This video did really helpful right now 🤓
I’m glad my video helped!!! 😊
Man you are awesome… i am starting my PhD during next twelve month
Thank you Charuka, best of luck with your PhD! 🙂
@@SamuelBoschMIT thanks mate
by sharing the struggles is really inspiring. More videos about struggles like the period of between "MIT faliure" and "got admitted to MIT"? You got me inspired to choose Building Technology to my master studies. Thank you!
You are an inspiration. Good luck for the future!
Thank you so much! 😊
Wishing you best of luck with your A-levels! :)
@@SamuelBoschMIT Thanks a lot, Samuel! I appreciate that :)
My goals:
1. Publishing my first or two papers in the area of natural language processing, hopefully top-tier conferences
2. Finding a undergraduate research opportunity for 2023 summer and being ready for my PhD application
3. Learning how to free diving
Best of luck - sounds really exciting! I'm also a big fan of free diving btw :)
P.S.: next week Im releasing a video about PhD applications
In the next 6 months, I'll be sending in applications to PhD programs in Philosophy. I'm planning to shoot for programs that have the best resources in Ancient philosophy: Oxford, Cornell University, UNC Chapel Hill, University of Texas at Austin. It's inspiring to hear from an MIT PhD candidate that excellence is less due to IQ and more due to dedication and being all-in study what you love.
Hey Gabriel, I wish you best of luck with getting your philosophy PhD position 🙂
@@SamuelBoschMIT Thanks!
Thanks for this. Its really inspiring.
You’re welcome ☺️
Over the next 12 months, i would like to qualify for the UK IMO and IOI team. I understand that it will require a shit tone of work and effort ... however i think it's time that i finally commit to something and go out to achieve it. Wish me luck everyone, the journey begins here

I am going to start my academical journey and study business and economics in the upcoming fall and i have clarified two main goals for myself for the following 12 months:
1. my high school gpa could have been way better and i challenge myself to finish my 2nd semester with a GPA between 1,0 and 1,5 (1-5 with 1 being best)
2. getting my first M&A internship during summer. my goal is to become an investment banker in london at one of the leading investment banks and therefore i need to really get my gut up and work for that

Thank you Marco!!! Best of luck with hitting your GPA target and getting into IB 🙂
Wow this is super inspiring. I also have a unique international background and have felt as a complete outsider. Now I'm starting to get my foot into corporate finance
Thanks Florian! Best of luck with that :)
Idk why you say you don't have the personality for RUclips, even with "only" 10k subscribers, you're better in front of the camera than some channels with millions of subscribers ! My goal is to get all A's for the next 2 semesters and do well on the MCAT.

I'm currently a first-year engineering student at a New Zealand University and I hope I can achieve these goals by next year:
1. Get admitted to Harvard''s transfer programme (through their special concentration)
2. Undergo a mechanical/aerospace engineering internship
3. Work on research along the lines of aerospace engineering or astronomy
4. Work on a satellite-based startup
Also love your vids man!!!!

@@SamuelBoschMIT Welp, a year later, and a lot has happened, lol.
I am now a second-year electrical & electronics engineering student in NZ and here's an update from the previous goals:

2) get good at web development and find a job
3) Improving my viola skills to a point where I can play in ensembles/orchestras comfortably
4) find a kind of sport which I'm passionate about
Hey Nadeon, I don't think you need to worry about this too much. I also sometimes feel really old when I meet people at MIT who did crazy stuff already 5 years before me. With 25 you're definitely NOT too old to become really successful (in whichever way you define success) 🙂

3. Be admitted in the Erasmus program for material science because I wanna go to MIT for my Ph.D. in the same field. 🤞
Hey Andrea, thanks for your comment! I wish you best of luck with your paper, internship, and getting your erasmus program 🙂
Please make a video on your study methods, would be really interesting to see how a student who competed in the IPho revised.
Absolutely! I actually just got started writing the script 🙂

2. To SBD a total of 300 kg, and
I would be very happy to see a video about the learning methods.

in the next twelve months, I would like to secure an insight scheme at a law firm.
