Mansfield Toilet Lever Flush Handle - Only Long Ones Work!

- Mansfield toilets with a plunger style flush valve requires a Longer than normal Flush Handle.
The original flush handle is plastic so if it doesn't rest in the center of the hoop on the plunger it can cause the tank to leak wasting water.
A small amount of heat will soften the plastic so it can be bent so it does not put sideways pressure on the plunger.
An after market flush handle made of brass is easily bent (outside of the tank) so it rests in the center of the hoop.

Exactly what I needed to know. Thank you so much for posting this video. Been through a couple of flush rods, and couldn't strike a happy medium. This solved my issue.
Thanks for the useful post. I was uncomfortable with the idea of heating the handle's plastic arm to bend it so that it doesn't exert sideways pressure on the plunger, but I figured out another solution to my hissing issue. I loosened the plastic nut behind the lever ever so slightly, which allowed the arm to move away from the plunger towards the center of the hoop. The nut is still secure enough to hold the plastic arm and lever in place, and the hissing has stopped.
THANK YOOOUUUU. I’ve never fixed a toilet before but I don’t have the time and money and embarrassingly enough hanging to go to a different toilet is really hard for me in the mornings-I’m never gonna shower if it takes all that okay my ass is mentally ill.
That is to say: I’ve been confused for WEEKS looking at my toilet wondering where the flapper and chain are and if it was an unholy monstrosity. Nope. Someone replaced the flush handle with one that was too short. 😂😂😂😂

we are having problems with the arm being too rigid and not allowing the flush tower to go up & down so it runs & runs and never stops. The suction at the base doesn't stick, I hope that makes sense.
If it’s plastic, you can heat it and bend it, so it stays in the middle of the hoop and isn’t pulling or pushing against the tower. The other choice is to get a brass Mansfield handle so you can bend the brass so that it is in the middle of the hoop, and that pulling or pushing on the tower.

You have to feed the handle through the loop on the flush valve before tightening the handle nut. I don’t understand the problem unless you found an extraordinarily long flush handle. I’ve done a lot of these w/no problem. Maybe you need to cut a little off your handle???

Actually a Korky handle is easier to adjust than a brass handle.
But does the brass one chew up the plastic loop more?
@@skliros9235 i’ve never seen the plastic loop wear out with any kind of handle. The gasket and the handles break first.
What do I do if the flush valve doesn’t go back down enough to lift the handle back up when I flush the toilet which causes it to run
You need to make sure that the flush handle is in the middle of the hoop on the flush valve. If it’s pulling or pushing on it, it’ll cause it to hang up. That’s why I like the metal flush handle cause I can bend it to get it exactly where I want it.
Too long. I can't get it apart to separate from handle to maneuver and I can't get it through the plunger putting it in through the hole as a unit.
I had this issue while replacing my Mansfield flush handle. My new one has a plastic arm that was too long to maneuver through the hole, so I had to use a snipper to snip the tip of the arm, just enough so that it could go through the hole but not too much that it could come loose.
You can unscrew the top of the plunger mechanism and take it off to make it a bit easier sometimes.
