ACACIA- What A Challenge! - Wood Turning
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 30 мар 2022
- First time turning Acacia, I guess. I was not expecting the wood to be so hard but, wow, it is! Got through it with lots of sharpening and found the grain to be beautiful and colorful. Complimented by the excellent bark, it turned out to be a beautiful piece. Not sure about the shape, though, what do you think?

Thanks Phil for another wonderful wood turning
😊
I love the shape, somehow I feel it shows off the beautiful colour and grain beautifully. The distinctive bark too adds a great deal. As ever Phil, I am watching you at ridiculous o’clock (5.15am) here in Scotland after being blasted awake by a bad dream (I think!?). I miss the smell of a woodshed, since my husband died, and now I watch you and allow my mind to inhale what I know to be one of the nicest scents in the world. Anyway, thanks again for a wonderfully relaxing and interesting video! 👏🏻🪵
You and I have similar sleeping habits, Anita. I too wake up very early since my wife died. I usually just turn the TV on to watch the news (that will give you bad dreams) and doze off and on for the next few hours. Luckily, I don't do anything during my waking hours that requires a lot of sleep to get over! LOL!
I like it, Phil. The shape and the shimmer. Thank you to Dennis for bringing and you for sharing and see you soon.
😊
An outstanding piece. Binge watching Phil. Life is good. 👍👍👍
I appreciate that, Steve! 😊
I'm a wood turner from England and I fell out of love with turning but watching your videos has rekindled my interest.
Thank you for being an inspiration and getting me back into the workshop!
Wonderful! I'm so glad you are going to give turning another go, Dave. It's a great hobby! 😊
The woodpeckers loved this piece also!!
😊
I love your live edge bowls Phil. There's not a lot you can do with the shape. The main thing is to have fun turning it and making an enjoyable video. Thanks Phil, I always enjoy your videos.
Cool, thanks, Jean! 😊
As you said, the true beauty of the piece is the grain. Ain't nature amazing!
Indeed, Sabrina! 😊
I think the shape is fantastic! Like a folded piece of wood. A soft sculpture rather than a solid block.
It's stunning.
Thank you very much, Jane! 😊
Acacia is a pretty wood. You brought the beauty out for all to see. Thank you.
😊
The chattoyance showed all over the wood, Phil - so beautiful! It's a lovely piece.
😊
I could see it on a dinner table with bread in it. Gorgeous.
That would work, Susan! 😊
Acacia - a wood that termites and wood worms LOVE! We live in the Dominican Republic where acacia abounds and is used for furniture which gets gobbled up by wood loving critters.
Interesting, Claire, thank you for the info! 😊
You bring the beauty out of every piece you turn
😊
I love the shape, wood details and bark.
Great, thank you, Marcia! 😊
Wild grain seems to add to the character. I really like this one!
Yay! 😊
Love the grain! Another winner, Phil!
It is pretty grain, Susannah, thank you! 😊
Shape is great, the live edge is fantastic, another piece of art by "The Master"
😊
Another beauty, Phil. You're going have to do more thimbles so we don't get bored of all these gorgeous bowls.
Not anytime soon, Pete! 😊
I love the shape, and the live edge. Beautiful grain. 👍🏼
😊
Beautiful grain on this with some lovely chatoyance. And I love the dark contrast of the bark. Must hunt down a piece of Acacia wood 😍
😊
Very beautiful!! The first thing I thought of when I saw the finished piece was baby Moses in his basket in the river. It would make some child a nice baby doll bed or bassinet. It would last forever and be a nice family heirloom. Thank you for sharing.
Hmmm, cool idea, Pixie, thanks! 😊
I like the shape Phil and the beautiful bark. Well done for producing another lovely project.
😊
That is amazing. The wood and your unique way of revealing it. No wonder God chose acacia wood for the ark of the covenant and the tabernacle. Beautiful! Thank you Phil for that Beautiful piece.
Something I didn't know, Steve. No great trick, I don't know a lot of things but I appreciate you giving us the full story! 😊
@@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop well I have to be honest. I did know that but what I didn't know was that acacia was a very strong wood. Perhaps like oak, and was plentiful. I also didn't know until you turned it, just how beautiful it is. Now the Ark of then Covenant was clad in gold which in my mind is a waste. Anyway I just like the wood and your rendering and find that its beauty should be accentuated not hidden. Keep turning Phil.
I love it. The chatoyance is clear on camera - so lovely. And I like the flaw.
Groovy, thanks, Claire! 😊
Yes, a great fruit bowl, and love that chitoyance!
😊
I can’t believe I’ve not seen this one. I really enjoyed it. Loved the shape too. Great job…of course.
Thanks a bunch, Denise!
Beautiful bowl branch, shape and wonderful grain.
😊
That is some beautiful wood. Given the blank, the shape is good and you got to keep all that beautiful bark
😊
An absolute thing of beauty. As usual.
😊
Looks like a cradle. Very beautiful . I love the shape.
😊
A beautiful piece Phil. The wood popped perfectly. Thanks. Hope to see you next week.
😊
Always a pleasure.

😊
Phil,
Beautiful bowl I love the flaws that nature gives us. These flaws give our projects character. Great job!!
😊
Really love the live edge! Beautiful wood. Beautiful end result!!
Thank you, Leona! 😄 Cheers!
I am glad to see you wear gloves today! Nice bowl! God Bless!
😊
Beautiful Bowl. I love acacia wood. It’s usually a pretty hard wood when it’s dry. But it’s always a very pretty grain.
😊
My goodness but that piece is beautiful!!! You couldn't have done any better. The "flaw" you pointed out, where there might have been a branch... It isn't a flaw but an extension of natural beauty and design. Thank you for sharing that pieces inner beauty. You are the bomb-diggity for sure.
😊
I was afraid you were going to lose too much of the natural bark, but the finished product couldn’t have been more beautiful. It’s so soothing and satisfying to watch you work.🍻
😊
Good job again PHil. NIce color and shape. Happy turning. SEe you next week.
😊

Hi 👋 👋 👋 👋 Phil nice job on that bowl keep up the good work 👍 thanks Ray
😊
Acacia ! We got that from you , brought back by a man called "Robin" , hence the name "robinier", used around railway tracks to keep animals away (don't want to be stung!) and even better than chestnut for fences , more durable as posts and best for woodturning !
I still have a piece or two of it, Youenn. Saving for a rainy day! 😊
That's a really nice piece phil, beautiful grain and shape, woodpeckers are cool, spring is my favourite time of year when nature is waking up

Thank you, Ted! 😊
The shape is cool and I love the grain and the colours are smart nice one Phil
😊
I was interested to see Acacia turned. In our neck of the woods, it is better known as "wattle". Yes, I think it would do well, as a fruit bowl. The part I like the most, is the area around the chatoyance where the grain's appearance brings to mind a gathered satin curtain. Yes! Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.
Oh, "a gathered satin curtain" is a great explanation, Stephanie, thank you! 😊
Like this piece and love the bank on the bowl
