Merci pour les conseils Nu-trix! I may add another tip: when recording the TR-09 individual outputs, don't do it in a busy session with a lot of plugins, you will not be able to fight against the USB latency (even by playing with audio and MIDI latency compensation, it is a nightmare). I recommend exporting the track you're working on to audio, opening a new session and importing this track, setting up the TR-09 individual outs in the session, and voilà: you should experience no latency. I hope it saves time to other users, because it took me a while to figure out :D
I've been using ableton for 10 years but the menu system on the tr09 is so confusing I was just lost. Thanks for making this - totally helped everything click finally.

This is great, thank you for making it--all of your vids are really helpful. Messing around with my TR-09, it seems that, in addition to being an interface for the Mix In as you discovered, 1/2 gives you a TR-09 stereo mix out (including any PAN settings from the Shift+Edit menu), but 1/2 is only a stereo interface for Mix In when all the instruments are otherwise assigned to the four USB outputs, as yours were in the video. No PAN settings on the USB 1-4 outs though, as you discovered. I guess maybe they figure if you're sending separate tracks out on those channels you can pan them in your DAW?

Hi, really cool tutorial. Keep up the good stuff :) I have an additional question about Ableton effects. Let's say you press play on the Roland TR-09 in this setup. Sounds goes through Ableton and you want to add an Ableton effect to one channel. You add an effect to that channel but my guess is, the Ableton effect will make it all messy because it is out of sync. In other words the Ableton effect is not beat sync with the Roland. (or is it?) Do you know if there is a way to get the Ableton effect beat sync with the Roland or any other external sound input?
thanks to make this video but I have a question please answer I have roland tr-09 and I bought a korg bass line how I can use tr-09 to sync up korg with ableton and can I record their sound an other channel of ablenton
Hi ! thanks a lot for your tutorial, I did every step like you said but I don't understand I haven't got any signal in the audio input on Ableton , so I can't have separate instrument as you did, I followed every steps as you did
Hi Man, I have a question related to USB-Mac set-up, I've been using my TR-09 with my old Mac about few yers ago with help of your setup guide it worked great! Now I have M1 Mac with Sequoia MacOS on board and it doesn't work, latests drivers seems not to support it. Tried to go around here and there but there is simply no information even on reddit about it, I'm lost... Is it a cold new reality that latest MacOS doesn't support poor old mini boutique babies or there is a solution for it?
Hey man, really finding the videos helpful. I just have a question around MIDI for the TR-09. Do you know whether it can be set up as a drum rack in Ableton? So each sound would be separated that way? I also have a Tanzbar and that is how I currently use it in my sessions. Thanks in advance!
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy hey man, I’d already watched that video. What I wanted to know was exactly how to use it as a MIDI device within Ableton, rather than Audio? If it’s possible then I can run both my drum machines at the same time with no latency issues and sculpt the sounds while they are playing together.
It's great hooking up the TR-09 to Live with 4 channels but if you cannot to MX-1 mixer there is no audio. The MX-1 midi clock only activates play/stop on the TR-09. Only useful if connected directly to the DAW. If you just want the stereo out on the TR-09 you have to use a stereo lead back into the MX-1. I was hoping there was some firmware that can allow the usb audio to travel into the MX-1 because it travels fine into a DAW but not the MX-1 itself. Have you achieved this? thanks
Hi there, what you ask for is not possible in the MX-1. The MX-1 can only receive stereo USB audio from the compatible Roland devices. I don't expect that to change. I think it's a limit in its capacities. If the MX-1 would support multiple inputs from each USB audio it would be difficult to manage with the faders, filters and all. The MX-1 is a live performance tool. Roland should be looking into creating a USB mixer aimed to be the studio hub of the Boutique series. We will see!
thank you I have a range of Boutiques... yeah just the TR09 don't play via USB on the one channel. I hear you about the split 4 channels over USB, but was thinking if they just had mix out over the USB like they do with JX-3 and SE02 etc. Shame as I have to put through one of the mono inputs on back of MX1. thanks.
Hello! I own all the boutique and follow regularly your channel. I have a question for you. I just discovered by chance that if I connect TR 09 to A01 and set the synth controller of the A01 on all sources I can use the the TR 09 to control the steps of the sequencer of the A01. Ok this is not so much a surprise. My question is : is there a way to assign to any instrument of the Tr09 a different set of notes of a different octave? It seems there are little differences between the hi-Tom and the clap etc ... but I’m not sure
OldSkool Synth Boy , i never saw a place where you could change the MIDI note for the déifièrent sounds . It could always be done with an external MIDI box. Like this one www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm. But you need to be well verse in MIDI or willing to learn it.
Hi, thanks for making the video and replying to so many questions. Hopefully you can help me out with my problem ? When i've got the TR09 synced up (using Ableton) it runs great when i hit play from either the space bar or the master play button up the top of the session - but if i hit stop on the TR09 whilst the ableton scene continues i can't bring the TR09 back in in time unless i stop and hit space bar again and start everything back at the beginning of the scene or arrangement. Does that make sense? I normally us an MFB Tanzbar and this allows you hit stop on the machine while Ableton keeps playing and when you hit start on the Tanzbar again it plays again from the beginning of the next bar allowing for musical dropouts.. I'm hoping there's a way to do this with the TR09... Thanks, would love your thoughts :)

@@Nu-trix thanks, i want to conect a korg synth to my interface and i need to choose the input of ableton in my soundcard, how can i connnect the tr09 with another in? Maybe external instrument ??
No, but Ableton is on of the few DAW that can received from multiple audio interfaces simultaneously . If not, you need to combine them at the os level.
Hi Ni trix Great videos mate. Can you apply effects in real time to the individual inputs via Ableton or do you have to record first and then add effects. I want to add effects via Ableton on the drums before I record them. Is this possible ?
Hi Gary, It's not what most people do. Usually they try to keep the input signal clean as long as possible and have the effects as FX sends of inserts. When the mix is ok, they print the effects. It give you the possibility of changing up to the last moment. I don't even know if you can record the input with the insert fx. Probably but I would have to check.
Ok Cheers Years ago you would add effects on individual sliders for different drum parts before you record the track. Having huge trouble wtih sync via usb. I've got a simple kick drum pattern that is audio and the tr-09 never stays on time. I've gone through every setting to try and get it to work. Anyone else have this problem?
you should try changing the latency settings in Audio preferences to a lower buffer size. I changed it to 32 samples after having this problem and that fixed it.
Hi, this should be selected in the menu "USB". I talk about it at about 9:00 in the video. You have to select USB 1, 2, 3 or 4 (they are all mono) and then bring the analogue out to zero with the knob.
Hi Nu-Trix, thanks for the videos ! Im having the same problem as described by BREX, but with the sh01a on Windows. I cannot find a way to disable direct monitoring of the device, used as an interface in Ableton. I always hear the direct signal from the sh01a, and the signal from Ableton at the same time. Is there a workaround for this you happen to know of ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again !

Firmware is Updated 1.06 and driver for OS Catalina. I'm not sure what to do here :( Btw thanks for sharing!
It might be a permission issue in Catalina. I know I had to go often in the system preference panel security and confidentiality to give permissions to softwares and installers. Maybe that is where the problem lies?
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy sadly it isn’t that the case! Maybe I can forward you a quick vid showing my connections and etc so you can take a better guess on it, if you want to of course! Cheers from Paraguay

Will the 09 work on GarageBand? That's what I'm using because I'm poor and have no money for expansive software lol.
My TR-09 shows up as an audio device in Ableton, and I've got sync and everything working, but the audio still comes out of the unit. Any ideas?
Hi, this should be selected in the menu "USB". I talk about it at about 9:00 in the video. You have to select USB 1, 2, 3 or 4 (they are all mono) and then bring the analogue out to zero with the knob.
Ah, epic. Thank you!
Thanks again !
are u the same guy that did the video on the behringer rd808
No, I haven’t yet tried it.
is this possible if you connect another audio interface?
You can have more than one USB audio interface on a MAC use the agregate audio devices like i explain here : ruclips.net/video/MJkOj8naDdc/видео.html
Mate I have done every single step as instructed but the things is I can't get to get audio signal from other channels than the 1 and 2, the signal isn't coming through separately as it appears to you. Firmware is Updated 1.06 and driver for OS Catalina.
I'm not sure what to do here :(
Btw thanks for sharing!
I have the exact same issue. Im also on Catalina. So youre not alone. I have no idea hot to make this work as separate channels.
Ashraf Hendricks yes mate I was looking for a comment talking about the same issue so i wouldn’t ask for help for the same problem, but couldn’t find it! Hope we find our way on this
@@martinbogado9243 Hey dude. Just wanted you to know that I got it to work. You need to assign which sounds go though the "USB", which is done in the menu. Check out the bottom of pg.29 in the Sunshine Jones manual (sunshine-jones.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/TR-09-Users-Guide.pdf). Hope this helps you!
Hi, I've purchased TB03 and TR09. Updated and installed everything to support my Mac. However, my Mac will only read TB03. Has anyone had this issue with TR09??
Daniel S Lee, maybe this will helps : ruclips.net/video/MJkOj8naDdc/видео.html
Daniel, I cant get my iMac to read it either. Ive updated everything, installed drivers, gave permissions, bla bla bla. It just wont appear anywhere when connected.
My TR-09 doesn't show up on my macbook MIDI configuration. What do I do?
you have to reinstall the driver, i just had the same problem. should work fine
Hi I have followed everything but my TR-09 keeps coming out just on the first two channels. How did you separate your KICK for the one channel? If you elect USB1 on the TR09 all the buttons light up and play / stop don't function.
Maybe this video explain it better: ruclips.net/video/F9TjsKR44fM/видео.html
be sure to select the OUT like shown here : ruclips.net/video/wJalcimA2zc/видео.htmlm56s
Thanks Bro
So, is there a way to have 8 inputs?
Kenth, not unless Roland comes up with a firmware update. I’m guessing no. They do not even make the Tr-09 anymore.
Hi,
What if I don't see my TB03 on the Audio MIDI Setup???
Change USB cable and verify you have the latest driver installed.
Thanks man,
The Roland is still turning on while plugged in and without batteries so it looks like the usb is fine.
I’m using 2017 Mac so it’s going through a usb to usb c converter. Do you think this could be the problem?
@@beauthedj it's possible. I sometimes changed cable (even if I had power) and then the audio and MIDI was ok. So cable is often the first thing to check as well as USB adaptors.
Thanks man will check it out!
Thanks man will check it out!
any way to send the trigger out via a midi trig?
Hi Josh, I just checked and no, it’s not possible.
Sad!
What are you trying to do that requires MIDI out from a drum machine?
for me all these comes tiring and dont make sense,it would be possible just all outputs going out separately, hope in the next firmwares they make it up.. thanks dude!
the easy solution is through a MX-1 mixer.
Another problem Is my computer can't detect my tr-08... Puff
Did you download the driver and try with another USB cable?
Yea i'll try and tell U..
hard to last updateI. It's not working. Only channels 1 and 2 are outputting audio. plz help T_T
I can't signal 3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10
Check out this video : ruclips.net/video/wJalcimA2zc/видео.html
very useful!!
thanks a lot mate
un gros Merci !!
would have been better if they at least put an adat output on the back if u ask me
est ce que tu peux la refaire pour la communauté franchouille ;;;;
Désolé, je n’ai plus de Boutique de Roland.
MAC (APPLE) WARNING! TR-08 + THERE IS NO MAVERICKS OSX 10.9 DRIVER for the TR-08, ONLY the TR-09 and TB-03. So all older Mac users can not use TR-08 as audio interface but they can the TB-03 and TR-09. Why did Roland not make Mavericks support for the TR-08 is a mystery.
Hi, I suggest you try re-installing the drivers for MAC. Be sure to download the right one. There are 2 different drivers for MAC. (one is ONLY for MAC OSX.13). Then connect the USB from the TR-09 into your MAC and check in the MIDI and Audio configuration if it appears at the OS level. If you see it, then the MAC sees it. If it doesn't work test with another USB cable...
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy
Intanto la ringrazio che mi hai risposto, io comunque le ho scaricate tutte e due allora quando la collego al Mac si accende la TR 09 però quando attivo ableton
Nu-Trix The Synth Guy
What is your MAC OS version, is it OSX.13? Can you see the TR-09 in the MAC OS AUDIO and MIDI Configuration?
The MAC Audio and MIDI configuration like in the video at 4:25.
Qualcuno sa farlo en Windows 10 , gracias !
