Thanks for the video to fresh up my mind. I remember when i got it new, i was really confused about these grouped USB outputs. You have to group the sounds into 4 groups. Group 1: kick, 2: toms, 3: high hats + crash and ride. 4: snare, clap, rim shot or put snare or clap in the same group like the kick. I wish i got 2 more channels. i don't know why Roland limits the TR-09 - sepatae it ftom the big TR-8 AIRA. At my TR-8 there was no limit. You got all intruments in separate channels and don't need to group them. Maybe Roland wants to push me to buy another TR-09 to have 8 channels in total;-)
When using a third party audio output device, and using the separate usb outs on the TR09, no matter what sync mode I use , whether TR09 as master tempo or slave, the TR09 wanders out of time at a rate of about 1ms every 40 seconds or so. Meaning for a live performance, I need to nudge the midi delay constantly during performance. Which is not good. I've even tried using a midi timecode plugin on Ableton... to no avail. Do you know a way to solve this please? I want to use the TR09 for live performance, in sync with ableton and using the separate usb outputs, but so far it's not been possible without constantly nudging the midi delay in prefs.
I use a J5 Create 7-port USB to link my boutiques straight to my laptop(no mixer) and have been using Garage Band(at the moment) and one thing I have found is if I turn off power to my boutiques in a certain way(?) or shut the laptop screen down then I lose the connection from the Boutiques drivers(usually the TR-08 and 09) to the Apple Audio MIDI Setup; so initially I would re-install the drivers in order to make them work again...Later I discovered I could just re-start the laptop and it would work again without installing the drivers every time. As far as what you call "sound doubling" I always check ✔️ the "Drift Control" box for all Boutiques within the created "Aggregate Device" in Audio MIDI Setup which usually keeps the clocks in synch...if not they will fall off regardless of MIDI connections. I have also noticed that if I leave the Garage Band session open but use Safari to surf the internet in a new window that when I return to GB there is, once again, a trigger delay(latency) or "sound doubling" between the Boutiques and the software program. I have found that if I un-check ✔️ the "Use" boxes in Audio MIDI Setup then re-check ✔️ the "Use" boxes along with re-checking ✔️ "Drift Control" then I hit
Many thanks for these tips! What about midi notes recorded in a Live clip? When I play back the clip it will send midi notes to the TR but the TR sequencer is also playing, hence duplicated notes. How to avoid this if I want to send midi messages from de TR to Live?
Witch do you want to listen to? You want to only hear the playback of the Live MIDI notes playing the TR-08? If so, then dont sync TR. Deactivate the MIDI sync and MMC so Live does not trigger the TR sequencer. If you want to hear the Sequencer then mute the MIDI outs of the MIDI clips from Live.
I was using the Mac QuickTime screen capture function. When I finished the demo I only had 15 seconds of screen capture. I probably stopped it myself without noticing. ;-)
It's great hooking up the TR-09 to Live with 4 channels but if you cannot to MX-1 mixer there is no audio. The MX-1 midi clock only activates play/stop on the TR-09. Only useful if connected directly to the DAW. If you just want the stereo out on the TR-09 you have to use a stereo lead back into the MX-1. I was hoping there was some firmware that can allow the usb audio to travel into the MX-1 because it travels fine into a DAW but not the MX-1 itself. Have you achieved this? thanks
Hey mate, you talk about the issue of latency when recording audio. I have this exact problem, I cannot get any of my boutique's to sync with ableton's metronome have tried for weeks now every option people have suggested, but still have a small lag at the start of my recordings :(
How can I apply effects in real-time without the doubling of the sound .The effect can be applied when you turn on monitoring and that is what gives you the doubling sound. How can I only hear the monitored sound and not the sound from the TR09
Luc Lafontaine hi thanks for help.Ableton only gives me an option In preferences to select the input not the output. I have ASIO 4 all now installed so that I can use more audio devices but where’s the option to select a different output.I would like my input to be tr09 and output to be my interface that my speakers plugged in to?
Works with MAC...okay... but i use PC with Studio One and Cubase. There is NO Way to get USB-Audio and use my Audio-Interface. Audio-Settings, i can only select one single Audio-Device. It isnt possible to select my Audio-Interface for Main-Output AND select the TR-09 for Input !

Thanks a lot for sharing your techniques to troubleshoot it. I’ll try to test how to do it using Cubase in the next month.

Very well explained. What video capture card did you use and why do you think it failed? thanks.

Does Quicktime capture the audio of the screen better then the iPad's screen recorder? Jim, from Edmonton
It offers more options and parameters.

Its possible and I have achieved it only works with 1 of the 4 usb inputs as it is powered on the mx-1. Cheers

I never was able to get rid of it entirely. I haven’t found the way yet.
yeah damn... ok thanks for the reply. if you figure it out please let me know :)

how can i make 32 steps pattern?
What's Appleton live and Meedee?
Ronnie Ramirez , Ha! It’s the automatic subtitling system that detect my accent . It’s Ableton Live and MIDI.
I was having a laugh..

yes you just chose your tr09 as AI then record what you plan to record finish it,then start using your audio interface as usual.
That screen recording was horrible 😵💫 On the Mac, try Screenflow, just saying ...
