I had a Puchner in College at George Fox. They had two of them and I did enjoy playing them over my brother's Miraphone which is now mine.

So I’m just about to get a brand new fox 220 bassoon and I have an audition coming up and I’m wondering your thoughts about if I should use the brand new but soon for the audition which should come a couple days before, or if you think I should stay with the bassoon I’m currently using which is my schools. I’m not sure how breaking in a bassoon really works because the only one I’ve ever used with my schools and I’m assuming it had already been broken in. So I just wanted to know if you think it would be ready by then or if I should keep breaking it in and use my school’s. Thanks

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE NEW BASSOON! How exciting! Without knowing much about the school bassoon.. I say use the new fox! Overall they are consistent and play well right out of the case. It may take a minute to get used to the keys in they differ in position to your school bassoon, or if you need a different reed style to match the bassoon, but those will be small adjustments. It will give you awesome confidence playing on your brand new instrument and it will make the preparation of practice extra fun. Good luck at the audition. Keep me posted on how it goes!

I am a flute player but for a while I doubled on bassoon in middle school, and now I just started picking it back up in high school and I had all my old bassoon gadgets to put on my new bassoon (it was a really nice Schreiber but it hasn't been used in like 5 years) and the thing that bothered me the most was that my old hand rest that fitted on my fox bassoon was TOO BIG on the Schreiber and its just kinda uncomfortable to play now

It's funny you mentioned this. I don't usually play with a handrest, either. The handrest that this bassoon came with was too large and I removed it and the base. And now I am all good! Removing the base can easily be put back on and it kept me from rubbing against it as I was playing which improved my technique and kept me from getting a blister. This might help you, too!

Hi Eryn! What are the benefits of adding tone hole liners?

HI Steph, It will alter the sound a bit but it also will most importantly it will keep any risk of rot away.
