for the people who still didn’t get the message, do not test it 1) you’ll still get a cut 2) there is no guarantee that every saw table has this stopper 3) you’ll have to pay for a new stopper and a saw since both break when triggered. I can’t tell the specific prices but be sure you won’t wanna pay for something you could not pay for
I agree, besides, the trigger causing the blade to stop May snapped the blade and make it even more dangerous since the blades can blown into your face💀
In the USA currently unless your saw is a saw stop it almost certainly does not. New legislation may change that... and completely kill the low end saw market. But that has not happened yet.
For anyone questioning why this certain mechanical saw would be able to detect electricity flowing through our skin, our body is basically a huge conductor of electricity. It contains electricity, it flows through our body like a battery, and that's what makes our nervous system run. So yeah that's pretty much it.
It's because the saw has an electric current flowing through the blade. Being conductive means electricity can flow through us, that's how the saw stops. Yes our body does make electricity but it's such a small amount.
@@ahmadswalihcksort of, it works because your finger conducts electricity. Simply the screen detects a lack of electricity just like the saw because a small current flows on the screen and when you touch it that current wants to go up your finger.
A small electric current is passed through the saw. Should your hand come it I contact with it, some of that current will be used and this will be detected by the system. The saw will then retract into the table extremely quickly and a stopper will be launched into the saw blade to stop it.
Actually the saw blade drops down and then stops, it's called SawStop Because the saw moves at such a high speed it has this piece that absorbs the energy, it has to be replaced every time you use it which is about 60-80$ and it can sometimes damage the saw blade which is at minimum 80$ and if it is a specialised blade can cost anywhere up to 210, I would say 90-120 is the average, closer to 120-150 if it is on a bandsaw or has a double blade
the emergency brakes are also one-use only and SUPER expensive to replace, so don't be running your hands through willy-nilly. Exercise caution, it's still a sharp object.
You forgot the fact that there is a small electrical current flowing through the blade, since wood doesn't conduct electricity, this allows it to touch the blade, but when your hand (which can conduct electricity) touches the blade, it shoves the blade back in the table.
@@RinaemulisaDengaNemakundani It does, I really don't know why someone would say he forgot and write a paragraph when only the last sentence is what he failed to mention.
There is a video of a girl who was working on a spinning wood piece, and it got stuck so she used more force and it threw her hand into the saw blade at pretty high speeds, yet she only received a cut equivalent to maybe a slice on cardboard. Something that would heal in a week and a half's time. It's quite incredible how fast and reliable these things work
It's called a saw stop, and they are good for educational places, but they can be touchy. If the wood has a high moisture content, it will trigger the saw stop. Best thing to do is always act like there is no safety and proceed with caution. Newer saw stops have gotten better about moisture in wood which is good. Lots of people have kept their fingers thanks to them. If your saw stop activates, it needs to be replaced, and the blade should be replaced as well. Even if the blade looks undamaged.
Another reason to not do this on purpose: it breaks the saw and depending on the type, the stopping mechanism, if you set it off. All saw stopping mechanisms like these have a high chance of damaging the saw blade. Some saw stopping mechanisms rely on an explosive charge that basically breaks the whole thing and drops the blade down into the table, and can only go off once, then you'd have to open the whole thing up and fix everything and replace the charge if you want to get it back up and working with the saw stop. The kind in this video uses a block of aluminum and a spring, which is resettable, but not necessarily as reliable as the explosive charge one, due to the fact that it's relying on an aluminum block to stop a speeding saw, and doesn't drop the saw down into the table.
@@luukthepcgamer7841 even the type shown in this video has a high chance of damaging the saw blade. It's basically throwing a block of metal into the teeth of the blade at ridiculously fast speeds.

My favorite man in the world is a high end woodworker who manages the maker space woodshop I use, with a memorial blade from the first time his SawStop saved one of his old employees. Thing never came out of the Aluminum block so they’re just hanging on the wall, says it was the loudest non-gunshot he’s ever heard, but that crazy reaction speed was what made it a 27 year old (at the time) employee of his in Chicago still has all 5 fingers.
I worked at a warehouse that cut wood for big fences. The head guy of the warehouse had cut himself years before I had joined the crew. He was missing a finger and half of another. The table saw blade was dull and it had pulled him into the saw. Cutting his finger and half of the other. Important to always change the blades when needed
as someone who is in carpentry class as a senior in high school with more than 2 1/2 brain cells it's also very expensive to replace. When the mwchanism stops something going that fast, so suddenly it destroys the blade and the mechanism.
Had a board to push the wood through but then you need something to have pressure on it when finishing the pass or it will just shoot out, 😂 I don't really remember I took carpentry in highschool and never really did anything after,
My highschool that i went to 10 yrs ago had one of these. So I can tell you this is a real thing. Just remember not all saws have this & like everything else in the world shit happens & things fail.
It's a called a SawStop and they're pretty accurate. The mark you'll get from hitting the blade is similar to a paper cut. Problem is, every time the stop is activated, a gear will mangle itself and sometimes the saw blade so that you cant get cut. Cost about 200$ each time it goes off and takes a heck of a lot of time to reinstall.
Also to be mentioned that the braking method uses gunpowder to stop the saw This makes the system one-use only and the whole thing needs to be repaired afterwards
As someone who works constantly around wood, it really is best to just act like everything and every mistake can kill you, because it can. These aren't a joke, I've heard so many stories of blades exploding randomly or because the safety measures were activated. It stops the blade, but that blade is holding A LOT of energy. Stopping it is one thing, whether the blade remains whole is something else entirely.
A much safer way would be to have a Lazer on the fence that recognized the hand well before making contact with the blade . the lazer could trigger a electric break on the saws motor stopping the motor instead of the actual blade itself.
Even if this doesn't happen, it can. Zack tells you to not try it because not all table saws are like that. He said "some modern saws" old saws may not be like this and it may cut your finger either way.
