Was never a fan of the Ankermake for one reason or another, but by golly Bryan your delivery and information is a treat to listen to!
Bryan another excellent review and some good dad jokes You just had to throw in a hair pun! The $660 - 1000 price range is seeing some new life and good printers.

Great video! I've been using the one at work daily for the past couple of months and I've really liked it, it's hard to go back to my Ender 3 at home. I hate the slicer and I've had failures when printing 5 or more models, but other than that it's been great.

@@BV3D I recommend Prusa slicer. Mainly for the organic supports and ability to change support Type, along with just other cool features

Thanks Bryan for all you do! I do have a question though. As a bed slinger, how does adhesion do with the Y axis flying around at high acceleration? Also, considering the price, how well does it hold up against the Bamboo P1P or the Creality K1 in terms of features and print stability?
Ive had my M5 since OCT last year and ive not really had any bed adhesion issues outside of having a dirty build plate!
I've had my Ankermake m5 sitting in a unopened box since last Dec. I am a KS backer and am still waiting on the V6 color engine that was announced during the KS phase before opening. It seems like an all around decent printer from all objectives measures.
Have your tried orca slicer with the printer. I saw they added the M5 there.
I haven't given Orca Slicer a try, but I should! Thanks for the suggestion!
You probably already know if you backed it, but got bad news that they canceled the Color Engine :(
@@erikwaters 😓Sadly the news did reach me. They are offering either a refund of 300 plus 30 or 600 off of the purchase price of a new undisclosed future product.
I haven't decided on which just yet. I still have not taken the M5 out of the box and the M5C didn't seem like a step up in features from the M5. So their next product has a lot of competition even with 600 off the retail price.

What filament was used for the messed up dragon that needs a haricut? Is it the nebula as well?

When I tried to print that 17 minute benchie that they offer it was thrown off the bed. I didn't try again. Now I keep trying to print that Aria and she keeps failing. I'm getting frustrated. Printer started off great and now all my friends have started failing. I don't know what the deal is - I even changed the nozzle.
A couple of years ago this would be a pretty compelling option, but I think this printer is a combination of too little too late, a big company starting to trip over itself, privacy concerns, and a company entering a space without doing it's full due diligence. I'm really leaning towards just upgrading my Prusas to the MK4 version for the new features, and I've been pretty sold on converting some of my old flashforge/makerbot clones to Klipper machines because the motion system on those things is super rock solid, and parts availability is commodified at this point. Anker has made some REALLY dubious privacy stumbles recently, so I would really be thinking long and hard about allowing anything from that company on my network. I work from home, so having a device made from a Chinese based company on my network is a pretty big concern. You can google "Eufy Security Issues" if you want to know about their lackadaisical approach to security and customer consent/notification on these issues.
Because every time I comment on a printer video, I get "just get a bambu" replies: Bambu has some similar issues to Anker in these regards. They have made some questionable moral choices in the past, and their printer is extremely proprietary. If they piss off the community and run themselves out of business, there's going to be a lot of e-wasted printers in the near future, and I like to be able to maintain my printers indefinitely. I have printers from 2016 still running strong. I am not /speculating/ that they WILL run out of business, I am stating that I do not wish to take that risk when I have perfectly viable other options within my skillset and budget.
are you going to do a review on the m5C? the one without a screen at all? Zack freedman mentioned one in passing on a video, but I don't know who else to watch to get a true review apart from you two.
Loving your shirt! I only just started the video so I can't comment on too much what was said just yet but I had to stop it to say that and also I don't know if you address it in the video or not but you are going over all the points so you're probably going to talk about the filament run out detector thing. I just got this printer and I had a failed print that was seven and a half hours. It failed because it ran out of filament and it did not realize it and it did not tell me. As it turns out the filament was really strongly stuck in the bottom of the spool so it didn't run out off the spool and then go through the detection thing for it to see that it ran out... So instead it just broke off where it was at... Somewhere past the detector and the nozzle. So it just kept on trying to print and printed in the air leaving me with a half done item. I've never dealt with filament run out so how do you prepare for something like that? Aren't all filaments attached to the spool like that? You can't see it till you get to the end so you have no way to make sure it's going to come out. How the heck does the detector work with other people? I just want to be able to prepare for this if it comes up again in the future. I like your videos and your opinions so I figure you probably have something wise to say about that.
Hi, the way the filament is attached to the hub of the spool is completely up to the filament manufacturer. A lot of times it's just got a small bend in it, and it goes through a hole in the spool hub. Most printers are able to pull that off the spool and it's OK. I've had some spools where the filament was pretty securely taped down to the hub and the printer had a hard time with it.
If the filament you were printing with is something you like using, and you want to keep using it, just be cautious when you're getting near the end of the spool. You could look around the outside of the spool hub as well, looking for a little tail of filament sticking out, from where the filament was first loaded on the spool. If there is one, snip it off with flush cutters so that when the filament gets to the end of the spool, there's not a big piece sticking through. Does that make sense?
I recently showed a printable spool rewinder, so you could try something like that to unload the filament onto an empty spool, and print from that. It's kind of an extreme solution though. My use case for the respooler is getting filament off of spools that won't fit in my Bambu Lab AMS unit, and onto spools that will.
Its good to see all of the new technology that is coming out on affordable printers. The speed increases alone are worth thinking about an upgrading to a new printer. A 45 minute Benchy on a bed slinger is pretty amazing. It just seems that since Bambu Labs brought out the XC1 and P1P everyone now is trying to catch up. Its a Win Win for us anyway you look at it.
I have yet to try anything flexible on here. Either flexible PLA or TPU. You didn't mention having any trouble loading the TPU. I was concerned because I seem to have trouble getting the filament into the thing. So I thought TPU is going to be even harder. But since you didn't seem to have any trouble maybe I won't either. I certainly hope not! Sorry for The multiple comments.
Hey just wanted to chime in here. Ive found the M5 to have a somewhat unique loading process in some ways vs other printers I've used firstly for me I find cutting the filament straight rather than at a 45 degree angle is better. and what I like to do is to set the printer to extrude a length of filament whilst I'm loading so it can grab hold of it after I have compressed the loading lever. in regards to tpu depending on what level of the shore hardness filament you are using you may need to unscrew the guide tube from the extruder and load the filament directly then reattach the tube.

I am new to 3D printing and really like mine. I am glad it is simple to set up and start printing in such a short time.

Everyone is trying to match Bamboo Lab's ludicrous printing speed, and failing!
The printer looks great and some people will love this printer, but I am not one of them!
This printer was announced BEFORE Bambu. They took to long to go from Kickstarter to retail, and didn’t want to work with many reviewers when it was brand new.
I wonder if it's a blessing or a curse to get printers in exchange for videos
