    Little bit of advice, store the filament in a very dry place because the plastic absorbs moisture and can cause weird defects during printing, you can also use a dehydrator to get the moisture out but I’d look up a tutorial if you do that

      Also look into how to clean the bed. That helps when we have issues with it not attaching to the bed.
      Also look to see if you can add brims via the slicer to help with adhesion and stability.

    One thing you could do to the hat could be painting on the hat material, weathering it to make it look older.

    I love that the hat brim is drooping on one side from the weight of the moss and mushrooms making it more clumsy/whimsical and seem more real like weight down by actual moss that holding in moisture.

    About 12 years ago I worked at an engineering university that had a project for first year students that involved 3-D printing. They had to do all of the planning and specs and patterns for it and it was complicated . I think the machinery was not advanced because I remember there being extensions on that project because the machine broke down. They were much slower back then. I have been paying attention as it becomes more of a thing and it’s kind of exciting what all it can do. Just an FYI, I was not an engineering teacher, I was a tutor in another subject. Entirely. I would never have guessed that this was something that I would possibly be capable of doing. Interesting to explore the possibilities and I am glad you did this sponsorship. It’s fun to see an entirely new product.

      Yeah it's insane how quickly we've gone from like "ooooo 3D printing is some new and crazy thing" to people just having them in their homes like this... I definitely didn't think I'd be getting into it anytime soon, but it was such fun!

    Awesome! For future hat projects where less floppyness is desirable; a tip I saw was that you can stiffen nearly any fabric with wood glue and have a workable diy hat buckram.

    Once again, DELIGHTFUL IN EVERY WAY! *applause* A+ on concept and execution, and I love that you just went for it. It's the enchantingest, forest witchyest hat of all time. 💚(Now let Mat use it at least once, the poor man (the printer, not the hat (unless he wants to and it fits)). He's gonna waste away from hopeless longing. *lol*)
    And I thought it would cost much more! Still $$--it's not like I can just go out today and grab one--but it's really not bad... you'd spend more on a good camera set up or a low-end table saw, even some sets of fancy cookware, sergers start out a bit less but they get pricey fast, etc. Not crazy in light of lots of DIY supplies at all. Does the filament come with it normally, or did they throw that in?
    ...also YAY PUPPY CAMEO!

    • @SpringStarFangirl
      @SpringStarFangirl 8 месяцев назад +1

      Not only yes, but there are actually some filaments I can think of that would be perfect for that purpose! TPU is a type of rubbery filament that kinda acts like how a phone case does, so it's got some squish to it. On a 3d printer that's not specifically intended for flexible filaments you'd want to turn the print speed all the way down (around 20 mm/s) because it deforms much easier than PLA, ABS or PETG, but the result is generally pretty good.

My husband keeps telling me that he just needs a weekend to really delve into it to learn all the intricacies. Sigh! We got a resin one because he wants to make D&D figures, so no PLA lines. One of these days he'll get over the "gah" part so I can play with it. It was a gift for him, so he gets first crack. ❤

    Okay so I’m now looking at my boyfriend’s 3d printer that’s on our kitchen table cause where else would you keep it? I’m always asking him to print me stuff and then I wait …… and wait …. and wait. So, I have decided, I am not going to wait any longer I’m just going to print something on my own, not even going to ask (I’ll probably ask permission) okay I’ll tell him, but I’ll do it on my own. (I might ask for a little help lol) leveling the bed of the printer is what really scares me he’s always using a piece of paper. Why is using the piece of paper, why is he doing that? He won’t tell me he just says I’m leveling the bed, but it’s got a self leveler like the one that you were using. What is he doing? Anyway, I like your videos and I am really enjoying your channel. I am like you I just like to learn to make things for instance, I don’t embroider at all, but I saw this thing on TikTok, where they embroidered the side of a couch that the cat scratched and made it look all pretty and then I looked at my daughters coach that her cat scratched and watched one of your embroidery videos and I’m kind of thinking I might be able to do that , probably won’t do it soon but thanks for making me think that I could do it if I wanted to!
