Not gonna lie, I'm glad the summer's over. I've missed seeing new videos from you. I always learn something. I got into backpacking and hammocks because of you. Thanks for what you do, Shug.
Right nifty! I have 2 of those stoves, one I made and one Jim Falk sent me. They are a real improvement over the old hobo stoves, though not as efficient as the gassifier types. Sadly, my home state of California frowns on wood stoves in the backcountry. Alcohol stoves are banned as well. But if I get nostalgic to see one in use, I can always watch Shug. Thanks for that!
I truly know how it is to be on the disabled list and not be able to get out on the trail with backpack and hammock as I encountered some health issues my self this spring that has kept me side lined for the whole season,so I had to " hike" this year via your videos and a few other people I follow..being a convert to hammock camping (2 years ago)I always recommend your videos to folks I meet on trail who ask about hammock camping and other handy techniques and ideas you present..thanks again for your hard work and dedication.
And in today's special episode, Shug has been rewarded for all his great teaching and obtains the highly coveted title of "Master of Fire Breathing" . We observe how he simply exhaled breath into a magical tube and the stove erupts into a conflagration. - All secure in sector seven
Looks like an easy, fun stove build to try. Thanks for laying the tape measure across it so we could see the dimensions. Take care of that shoulder my friend and you’ll be back in the piney woods before you know it.
I love 💕 a good wood fire big or small but I’m getting more into the whistle from my alcohol stove! Hearing yours whistle triggered or flipped a switch that brought me back to life!!
great video sir, glad to hear you're healing up good. Amazing that after all these years you are still teaching and entertaining me, now I want to try making that woodburner!
So I just watched how to make fire in two old cans - and I feel thoroughly entertained. I even consider building one of those myself. Shug, you got a rare talent. Happy to see your shoulder is doing better. Would love to meet you on the trail some day.
Brilliant video 👍 I've used a version of this for a wee while now it works really well, it's best to point the fuel port away from any breeze forcing it to draw from the bottom
Thanks Shug for all you do, i always enjoy the teaching and testing you provide us. My hillbilly pot is in route from Dutch as we speak can't wait to season it.
Love your channel ! Your music and singing as well. It is awesome to hear your Beefheart and Zappa references . I can't get anyone to hike with let alone someone with culture. You are lucky to have yer buddy Hickory and the other young folks to hike with. THE MAPLE KING !!!! Omg I nearly soiled my britches laughing. One more thing, You should give The Dolly Sods a try on your way to North Carolina next time. It has a feel all it's own and the terrain changes by the mile. Best always.
Love me a wood burner! Thanks for sharing this old favorite! Might have to make another to play with it. First one suffered from the clumsy old fart syndrome! Yeah I stepped on it in the dark!
"Fire is fun" said never by Smoky the Bear. Nothing beats cooking over hot coals on a chilly day. Sitting around a campfire or even a wood stove is a lollygag day. Really helps me to slow things down. Starting to cool down here. Woke up and it was 32F. Leaves just barely changing. All secure in sector 7!!
Love the video Shug. Give the shoulder plenty of time to heal because it would be easy to re injure it if not careful. After about 9-12 months it should be A-OK.
Thanks. Me and an old circus clown buddy. He wrote it and layed it down. Emailed it to me and I dropped it in Garage Band and added my vocals and mandolin. Cyber jam!...soundcloud.com/seanemery2/slow-fuse-blues?in=seanemery2/sets/seans-plays-songs
And when you get tired of boiling water that thing looks like you could smelt some iron! 😂 Excellent use of those cans and seems easy to make, thanks 👍
Well Shug , that was one hot stove , good video. I’m going to make me one of them . Like the way it was put together and the way it packed away. Good job Shug .
Okay, you just made me pass a beer thru my nose with your Slingblade imitation! Nice info. Just subbed. Also, my oldest nephew's nickname is Shugey, given to him by an Irishman that worked for my brother. My nephew, Matt, was Air Assualt and an Army Ranger.
Ran with a stove like this for 5 years and love it but last years been camping out in nature reservoirs that have strict rules against open fire .. Closet fire argument didn't work on them. But I love wood burning stove because A) fun, B) not that slow to boil water
From the TLUD, to the caldera cone to the JFaulk; I think I have built every wood burner out there! Hard to beat a bush buddy for ease though! Good stuff Shug, keep up the PT and the videos!
Love the wood burning stove! I have a bush buddy copy from amazon, but there is something about a DYI device that is just so appealing. Anyway, thanks for the video and just to update you, it’s getting to the 60’s tonight in Florida so...”It’s hammock time!”
Hey, Shug. Great video, as always. To save a tiny bit of weight, and to make it easier to pack up and load the wood, remove the silver parts of the binder clips. Just pinch them sideways and pull one side out at a time. You may not want to remove all of them, but you really only need one pair to readjust/remove the black portions if needed. It is great that your shoulder is improving. I tore my meniscus in August and thought my family hiking days were over, but I was able to tackle one of the toughests trails in Shenandoah last week with no pain, and even kept up with my 13-year old. Best of luck to you, my friend.
Recently subscribed to your channel, excellent content and never boring. Just purchased a new chameleon hammock after watching one of your videos, its currently winging it's way across the Atlantic!
Thank you for the video and yes it looks like your arm is getting much better don't over push it young man I understand about don't get cocky things will bite you in the rear end later on if you do So take it easy can't wait to see you next video
Many thanks. hanks. Me and an old circus clown buddy. He wrote it and layed it down. Emailed it to me and I dropped it in Garage Band and added my vocals and mandolin. Cyber jam!...soundcloud.com/seanemery2/slow-fuse-blues?in=seanemery2/sets/seans-plays-songs
It won't be long and your shoulder will feel like it's new.💪 I have used my folding stick stove twice in the last year. It's good for the dryer weather trips.
Great home made products, Shug! I'm a lazy 62 year old man. My stove has a woodburning capacity and I have used it, but after packing all day I just do not want to mess with a fire. Other than melting snow, my little alcohol stove does the trick for me.
Thanks. Me and an old circus clown buddy. He wrote it and layed it down. Emailed it to me and I dropped it in Garage Band and added my vocals and mandolin. Cyber jam!...soundcloud.com/seanemery2/slow-fuse-blues?in=seanemery2/sets/seans-plays-songs
Great to see your videos again. Pretty neat stove you demo there. Looks tempting to build one for next season and have some fun with. Catch you later so take care and be safe.
Thx for sharing the build...gonna give it try, always appreciate and love what you show us...specially the “purty boil” and all clear in sector 7😉😂 take care and happy hammocking...yep not a word, carry on 🤣👍
Glad to see you back in force Shug. Sector Seven was getting a bit out of hand. As for the Bushbuddy stove, they are fairly easy to DIY. Just search Yankee Prepper Bushbuddy on RUclips and he has an excellent tutorial posted for making one. I have made a couple and they work great.
I have a BB and a DIYed Bushbuddy but wanted to show this stove as it needed some love. My thought is that this one is easier for a beginner in woodstoves.
Love to catch up on the new videos to brush up for the winter! Have you ever considered doing thrift store camping gear find videos? I have found some amazing stuff in there and I think it could be a fun pass time and content for your channel ! Love from Canada
I don't really do thrift store shopping much. So I just do what I do. Most of my gear is a bit top shelf. I live a clean life so spend my mad money there. Though my ife was not always that way. Thankee. I love Canada.
Thanks. Me and an old circus clown buddy. He wrote it and layed it down. Emailed it to me and I dropped it in Garage Band and added my vocals and mandolin. Cyber jam!
Guess I missed it but from what you said it seems like you tore your rotator cuff. I can really emphasis as I have done it 5 times, between my 2 shoulders. But glad to hear you recovering. I like the Ikea twig stove. But I mostly just play wit it or any o the twig stove. But fire is fun. Thanks.
Thanks for bringing back this design. The best time for a fire is when it is cold and wet. Does the Faulk stove have enough draft to get wet wood started? Happy healing.
Keep doing everything you can to help your shoulder loosen up. (I know you already know that) I have a friend about your age that had that surgery, and he wasn't faithful with doing his excercises. Now he can't really lift his arm above shoulder height.
Glad to see you have good movement in that shoulder!! Keep up the PT it will take a while to get better. Now I'm going to have to make one for myself! Had a thought of taking the hiking gear and hammock out before the snow fly's! Just have to see if the weather holds out. Cheers!!
Love It! Already use canned peach can walls as a wind screen, and I'm annoyed with my Vargo Hexagon Wood Stove. I think something like this will suit my kit a lot better....
Wow, not only a good use for putting my Dremel tool to, at last -- but I caught some Mandolin blues in there, as well! Please, ignore any misplaced prepositions in the aforementioned statements.
That made me laugh. Hickery's Mom used to get me all the time. I'd go down to his house and say "Hi Mrs. Hicks. Where is Kent at?" She would answer "behind the preposition at."
I like the "sneak peeks" at the end!! Did you see hammock gear dropped a new hammock? Looks nice, and it comes in like 3 oz lighter then the Warbonnet El Dorado. Might pick it up myself to give it a go!
I am gonna start using my new home-made woodgas stove that started out as a hard drive container from a pc, 2 kebab skewers, an old Tate & Lyle syrup pot and some some wick made from an old coat. Cost, zilch, nada, nowt, nothing but 45 mins thinking 15 minutes work. Weight, about 4 ounces, but no biggie my bike carries the weight not me.
I have my chosen stoves all set so I don't explore stoves too much anymore. Regrets....but here are all my vids on them ruclips.net/p/PL1EA3640A7234EFEB
Not gonna lie, I'm glad the summer's over. I've missed seeing new videos from you. I always learn something. I got into backpacking and hammocks because of you. Thanks for what you do, Shug.
I put them out when I can or just want too. Put out more this Summer than usual just for you!
I know. The summer is your busy time for your show. I'm just glad you're on the mend and I get to see you more now :)
Thanks again Shug for the most informative video - "NOT" wishing you well, as "we are done with that"! !! !!!
Thankee for not doing that.
Fun to re-discover it. Seems a lot of restrictions in CA these days!
Love this I actually asked my wife to get me a dremel tool for my anniversary this year. I love DIY projects thanks Shug!!!!
Everyone needs a Dremel tool!
Thanks. Painful missing a lot of good Fall camping. Heading out in the morn though for a shorty.....

I usually just juggle or eat fire!
Looks like an easy, fun stove build to try. Thanks for laying the tape measure across it so we could see the dimensions. Take care of that shoulder my friend and you’ll be back in the piney woods before you know it.
If I did not I knew folks would ask. Nip it in the bud. Easy build with a dremel and step drill.
I love 💕 a good wood fire big or small but I’m getting more into the whistle from my alcohol stove! Hearing yours whistle triggered or flipped a switch that brought me back to life!!
I love to hear my stove whisper to me....
great video sir, glad to hear you're healing up good. Amazing that after all these years you are still teaching and entertaining me, now I want to try making that woodburner!
Well am always learning and re-learning too.
So I just watched how to make fire in two old cans - and I feel thoroughly entertained. I even consider building one of those myself. Shug, you got a rare talent. Happy to see your shoulder is doing better. Would love to meet you on the trail some day.
Love coming across folks on trail! Thankee.
Brilliant video 👍 I've used a version of this for a wee while now it works really well, it's best to point the fuel port away from any breeze forcing it to draw from the bottom
Yessir. Ended up the opposite for filming purposes.
Shug, another awesome video. Nothing like a small fire to uplift one's spirit on a cold/wet autumn night. Brilliant! It's not all about ounces.
I'll tote it out Monday on a short woods jaunt. Will be chilly.
Thanks Shug for all you do, i always enjoy the teaching and testing you provide us. My hillbilly pot is in route from Dutch as we speak can't wait to season it.
I just took to that pot. Hope you enjoy yours.
Sitttin here wit me shug t shirt on drinkin a cold home brew. snow is on da way, peace out.
Mighty fine. Thanks for the sportin' support.
Much love Man,My girl had that surgery a little over a year ago and she's pretty much back to normal Brother.
Good luck, Ohhhhhh Budddyyyyyyy
I expect to be normal. Glad to hear.
Shug, your backyard is a “Lollygagger’s Paradise”! Very cool space you’ve created there, man. Thanks for another very informative video.
It sure is. I spend a lot of time picking up sticks from my trees.
Love your channel ! Your music and singing as well. It is awesome to hear your Beefheart and Zappa references . I can't get anyone to hike with let alone someone with culture. Thanks for the fine words. Hickery has done Dolly Sods so we do plan to someday.
I sure feel for you with your ailing shoulder old buddy, but it sure has worked out nicely for those of us who enjoy your videos.
That is funny...thanks!
Love me a wood burner! Thanks for sharing this old favorite! Might have to make another to play with it. First one suffered from the clumsy old fart syndrome! Yeah I stepped on it in the dark!
Stumble Bum ye'

Smokey is a buzzkill for pryos!
Just had a two nighter solo. Easy trip. Cold and windy. Took this stove.
Love the video Shug. Give the shoulder plenty of time to heal because it would be easy to re injure it if not careful. After about 9-12 months it should be A-OK.
Yessir. I am treating it with respect.
Get better Shug!! We love your videos and your my favorite RUclipsr
Too kind you are. Thankee.
Loved the blues tune at the start of the video. Enjoy the trail tomorrow.

Finally got some time to watch a video from you! Thanks for sharing man! Glad your shoulder is feeling a lil better peace!!
Fun to rediscover this old stove. Thankee.
Looks like you're healing well! 2 thumbs up for being out of the sling! Thanks for another great video too
Good to be sling-free.
I'd love to be one of your neighbors or one of your friends you are an amazing character! Thank you for the awesome content as always Shug.
Just a regular guy...except on camera.
Glad you're shoulder is better I can only lift my arm to shoulder high so I am happy you're doing so well
I am very happy though I still got a ways to go. Reckon we both do.
Well Shug , that was one hot stove , good video. I’m going to make me one of them . Like the way it was put together and the way it packed away. Good job Shug .

Just nice to see you back shug ways nice to see new gear inventions and anything. Hamock related 😀
Thank you for the nice words.
Thankee and sorry 'bout the beer blow!
That is the coolest stove . I'm gonna make one for a buddy and one for me
It is a fun burner.
Great video, Shug. Psst, I use your ideas with bike touring, not so much backpacking.
Sound fun that bikepacking
Ran with a stove like this for 5 years and love it but last years been camping out in nature reservoirs that have strict rules against open fire .. Closet fire argument didn't work on them. But I love wood burning stove because A) fun, B) not that slow to boil water

Not all but way much closer!

The BushBuddy is classy.
Fire is Fun, Thanks for sharing Shuge and glad you are on the mend!
It is. Thankee.
I'm hoping you get one more camping hike in before winter sets in. Very cool wood stove. Love it.
Getting out tomorrow early...EARLY!
Love the wood burning stove! I have a bush buddy copy from amazon, but there is something about a DYI device that is just so appealing. Anyway, thanks for the video and just to update you, it’s getting to the 60’s tonight in Florida so...”It’s hammock time!”
I agree. I love this rusty stove.
Woo buddy, another Shug video :) It's good to see you posting more again now that it's autumn!
I get in the mood!
I'm glad you are feeling better. Looking forward to the Solo Stove video...(I hope).

I had two meniscus tears fixed in left knee 5 years ago. Had to get it done for my show. Same surgeon did my shoulder. Knee is real good these days.
Yeeeah baby another awesome video! Started using your slingblade voice when i get my stove top espresso goin "mmmhm das a mighty fine crema we got"
Yessir. Coffee makes me a might bit nervoust.
Very nice!
Glad your shoulder is getting better.
Thanks for the video
Thankee.

Hope some great sleep for you!
Love stuff like this shug. Great diy wood stove. I’ll have to have a go sometime.
It is quite a fun one. Took it on my wee trip. Warmed me in many ways.
You really like your videos, you can learn a lot from them. Thanks.
Köszönöm.
Szívesen!
i can't but got distracted by your Tensa4 hammock stand and the DynaFly tarp ..
The World of Distraction!
Great looking Stove, Don't burn maple sticks in it what ever you do ! :)
I did...and he is agitated!

Glad the shoulder is healing!
Thank you.

I know. I get kinda lazy and often never use my woodburners and rarely build a fire at camp. Taking this on next trip...soon.
Love the Shoulder Sick Shug blues music. No pressure buddy, be great to hear the whole tune and a maybe few more one day.

Thanks for sharing Shug 👍
Good morning my friend 😇 🇺🇸!!!
I hear ya'
Ol Hillbilly got a tune-up? He looks straighter and rounder. Must be the new competition!
That is my second string smutty hillbilly pot. Coming up through the ranks.
Glad to hear your getting better. I think Ill build me a stove or two. Thx Shug
Fun stoves so build 'em up....
A little old school ingenuity from The Godfather of backpacking. Awesome video Shug! And yes I said Awesome! Cheers!
It is a right goodie.
Great to see your videos again. Pretty neat stove you demo there. Looks tempting to build one for next season and have some fun with. Catch you later so take care and be safe.
Thankee and hope you make one.
And if I remember I will post it here for you. Take care.
Not out of the woods yet? You're not in the woods yet! Keep taking care of that thing, looking forward to more Sub-Zero camping soon!
I'll be in the woods Monday!
Thx for sharing the build...gonna give it try, always appreciate and love what you show us...specially the “purty boil” and all clear in sector 7😉😂 take care and happy hammocking...yep not a word, carry on 🤣👍
It is a fun one.
Another purdy boil! Nice video shug!
Thankee.

Wow -that takes me back.pretty sure I had to give him a 5dollar donation for the plan (also did his gasifier one) fun to see it again -thx man
Not sure where he went too. Great stove though.
Another master class. Cheers shug
You get an A+
Well I like heavy. I love my Kelly kettle and it's fun. :)
Fired mine up the other day. They are good kit.
UMMMHUH!!! I like the way you talk!
Yessir. You sound like a race car.
Always entertaining. Always informative. Glad you’re doing well.
Thankee.
Good luck with the shoulder. Still only about 80% with mine from 11 months ago.
Coming along but as you know...a slow heal. Glad to hear your at least at 80%
And now.... I have to build a new wood stove, woooo buddy!
Yes you do......
Great video as always...Be easy on that shoulder...
I am treating it well. But sneaking to the trail soon. Easy walk I know. Don't want to fall. Doc says that would be bad
Great stuff Shug!
Thanks.
Loved the music!
Thanks. Me and an old circus clown buddy. He wrote it and layed it down. Emailed it to me and I dropped it in Garage Band and added my vocals and mandolin. Cyber jam!
Your beard goes nicely with the hobo stove
A beard just mades a feller want to be outside!
Thanks.
Yes. A bad tear that could have ended my juggling career.
Thanks for bringing back this design. The best time for a fire is when it is cold and wet. Does the Faulk stove have enough draft to get wet wood started? Happy healing.
Sure. You cold always add more holes...use a blow tube and use your best fire building skills.
Oooooh and another Fly teaser!!!
I've been called a tarp tease before.
Keep doing everything you can to help your shoulder loosen up. (I know you already know that) I have a friend about your age that had that surgery, and he wasn't faithful with doing his excercises. Now he can't really lift his arm above shoulder height.
I am religious about doing PT. My PT is impressed with my mobility but I have limitations still.
@@shugemery I wish the very best for you.
Glad to see you have good movement in that shoulder!! Keep up the PT it will take a while to get better. Now I'm going to have to make one for myself! Had a thought of taking the hiking gear and hammock out before the snow fly's! Just have to see if the weather holds out. Cheers!!
Me too. Heading out Monday for and easy trip on trail I know well.
Shug shug shuggetty shug, Glad you are on the mend. All the best to you and family.
Arigato. Camping Monday and taking some of your Mom-in-law's coffee. Kohi..Oishī ne'
We are glad you like. Enjoy in good health.
Nice vid.... i can smell the smoke
And what a good smell it was and is.
Love It! Already use canned peach can walls as a wind screen, and I'm annoyed with my Vargo Hexagon Wood Stove. I think something like this will suit my kit a lot better....
This one is sort of a no brainer. With good dry wood it sure never fails me.
Excellent video and tutorial
Glad to hear that.
Not sure if any one has mentioned it, but your bush buddy stove looks an awful lot like a solo stove. Which I have, and really like to use.
The Bushbuddy proceeded the Solo Stove.
Well done!. Maybe make a super micro one. Lol
Never had luck with micro wood stoves. I think it needs the BTUs.....
like the beard shoooog takes some years of yeh back down to about the big 50
I feel 52!
Thanks Shug!!
Y'elcome.
awesome.dual stove.there
It is a fun one. Just took it on a two nighter and it warmed me.
Can Do!
Cheers to the Lord of Lollygag
Right nice video.
Righto!
Admire your stoicism regarding your shoulder shug
Haaa......just took a wee two nighter solo to test the shoulder. Fared well..as long as I don't fall.
I like the "sneak peeks" at the end!! Did you see hammock gear dropped a new hammock? Looks nice, and it comes in like 3 oz lighter then the Warbonnet El Dorado. Might pick it up myself to give it a go!
I have seen it. Waiting for them to offer me one! haaaa

Great stove design. Cheers, Marc
