Very nice review. I'm wearing the Green Willard on a 6.5 wrist and it's really comfortable and good looking and I probably won't take it off for months now. Got mine last week for 950 US. For all those homage folks love what you wear! For the money the Green Willard has a bevelled crystal like the original and a case size like the Turtle and side belly case like you mentioned. My personal favorite.
I am not 100% happy with my ≈$150 Sharkey copy... but now I can see just how close Sharkey is!!! I thought Sharkey messed up how bracelet joins the case, but I can now see Seiko is exactly the same. I loved my Sharkey from day one, now I will love it even more! ❤️🤗
For the price of this watch, there is absolutely no excuse for misalinged anything, period. Unfortunately , Seiko won't care as long as people keep buying their watches.
Rolex and others have that problem as well. Every mass manufacturer does and accounting for Seiko's production # doesnt surprise me there are more seiko complaints since much higher production #'s.. .huge mistake Rolexes cost a lot. They made an air king with 9 at 3 and 9 o'clock position..now thats a qc issue but they are rewarded for it and sought after. Mines are perfect though. Having said that, I must have been extremely lucky as almost every Seiko one I have from samurai, sary, sarb, 5kx, bottlecaps, 62mas re issue,monster 2nd/4th, baby monster were aligned perfect and most ran 0-5SD. The turtle was off by a hair but I can live with it.
Love seiko, always have and always will..but they have lost me. They still make gorgeous looking stuff. But... 1) Their pricing has become insane. I'm fine with rising prices, and if they want to position themselves at a higher price range that's fine but the quality has to take a step up 2) Their bracelets are subpar especially compared to Swiss brands at similar prices. 3) Sapphire needs to become the norm, not the exception 4) Quality control issues are somewhat tolerable on cheaper models, but on more expensive models there is no excuse 5) I've had several issues with their movements being inaccurate or downright faulty
I’ve had a few seikos. My samurai and turtle were low qc, bad bezel alignment, and timing is -30 seconds on both My willard is spot on, have yet to see anything wrong with it. Right now it’s running +1 second. Running up there with my hamiltons
Oh, those dimensions REALLY make me want one. And it’s really pretty too. I think you mean it feels more snug on your wrist or like it melts into your wrist. For me it’s sorta the difference between the 007 and the 013 which always seemed top heavy to me.

I got the steel dive absolutely perfect 👌, the loom is unbeatable & the price is unbeatable, also using a Seiko movement, have it on a silicon woful strap
The only problem with my steel dive is , I got more expensive watch’s but I don’t want to wear them my steel dive is much more comfy & like it too much ...

This is nice . However in the uk they are closer to the equivalent of 1600 dollars in the uk . Not cheap so would like to see it person before buying ....
that bezel alignment is unacceptable on a $1300 watch. i recently bought a sbdc051 and the bezel action skips and then gets difficult to turn, seriously on a $700 watch. if people just accept these quality issues they have no incentive to correct them
At one time I wanted one but now I think it would be uncomfortable to wear due to it's large size. I got Seikoed out or something. It's still nice to see them in video. Great video.
So the sbdc109 is made in Japan and the spb151 made in US? Then what about the spb151j1? All I know is I ordered my sbdc109 straight from japan and was told that the j1 represents made in Japan? I’m not sure if that’s correct..

Where l live, in Asia, we are fortunate to get good deals. I bought the green Willard for only $830. I bought 62MAS, spb147j1. This one is $70 cheaper, at $760, bec being smaller, has less lesser steel, lol. The one with bracelet cost $140 more. Here, except for shops selling swiss luxury watches, all other watch shops sell seiko, and, there are so many. Lots of competition. I supposed when things cool down, you get better deals in the west too. The anodizing of the Willard bezel is deeper than the std ones. As a builder, myself, this kind of anodizing is seldom seen. You can know by the texture. It's well done. From my experiences, there's no difference between jdm and international models. Btw, mine has perfect alignment and keep excellent time. I like the strap too. For the first time, l can use it bec it's shorter to fit my 6.25" wrist. Ya, l can wear it comfortably, no problem. I also own the 6105, and, l can wear that too with comfort.
Recently, l bought the king turtle srpe07k1 for $342, arnie for $305, spb071j1 for $660. When dealers have left over, they sell online. You can Google Shopee to check out.

Here, many people make videos in Chinese too. You won't hear them say seiko/GS is overpriced, and, you won't see comments like that too. You will be laughed at.😅
After owning the MM300, SBBN033 and SBDC029...I can say with a great deal of certainty that DiaShield is a CROCK of $#!+. It doesn't do ANYTHING for the prevention of scratching. It's like "Martinizing" your dry-cleaned suit or a spray-on clear coat sheen thing at the local spray/brush car wash. Total B.S. LOL (
This is so nice. I love it, have a 6.75 inch wrist and will go try this on to see cause the case is clearly much bigger than the bezel, and with the case being 42.x mm large I’m thinking the bezel will be around 40mm and should wear pretty good.

Some observations on this Seiko SPB151 and why it looks more like a 🐢. The original 6105 Cpt Williard has its crown at 4:30 this SPB151 has its crown at 4 o'clock. The case on the 6105 was rounder on the left side. The seconds hand is different too. I wished Seiko would have created a more accurate homage to the original 6105 and not expect collectors to pay more for the SLA 033. Still loved the review because you got some very nice shots of the watch.
I want to start by saying that I really like this watch. I don’t wish to be pedantic, but it is not really a Willard (possibly a ‘Mini Willard’?). The case is notably different from the actual Willard, which is more closely modeled by the gorgeous SLA033 reissue (which is on my bucket list). In actual fact, the SRP777 Turtle is a closer relation to the original Willard. Peter Kotsa (who owns an original 6105-8110) made an excellent video in this regard. Nonetheless, the SBDC109 is a beautiful watch.
Yes it's a narrower case than the original. I own a 6105-8119 & the other difference that gets overlooked is the thickness, the 6105 is only about 11mm thick & wares low on the wrist compared to modern Seiko divers. The 6105 is a special watch & given the price of the reissues it would be worth trying to find an original in good condition, the prices will only go up in the long run, cheers
I just sent my original 6105 that I bought in 1976 that I forgot I still had. It has seen way better days. The crystal was scratched so bad it looked like it was sand blasted. It’s got some minor dings on the case and the lume is pretty much dead. The outer bezel is faded and scratched a bit. I don’t know if I should have Seiko USA do anything other than a service and replace the crystal for fear of ruining its value as an original. Everyone talks about “patina” so I don’t know. I’m seriously considering buying one of these new ones. I haven’t seen the US market models any less expensive than the Japanese market models. Not sure what to do.
I had a few questions that I was hoping you might be able to answer: - How does it feel to unscrew and thread the crown? -How does it feel on wrist? Is it "top heavy"? -I recently purchased a brand new seiko SRP 777 (turtle), how does this watch compare in wearing?

Seiya is the man! For me, it's hard to decide if I should even consider this one or the newer SLA one with the 8L movement... I don't need another watch...

I don't trust the 6r35. I've the new alpinist and ran great for first month but now it's definitely on high end of spec running at least 25sec fast per day. Every few days I've to set the time back few minutes. Not happy.
Same Shane, I have the SPB125J1. Nice sumo varient but the 6R35 runs up to 25 secs fast a day. Someone else suggested to me that it may need demagnitising but for a watch of that age. I think as a new(ish) movement Seiko just haven't quite got it right yet. Hopefully subsequent varients of the movement will address this!
A lot of guys wore them in the Nam and post Nam era. That's why the movie advisors had "Willard" wearing one. BTW, I was doing some Jungle Warfare/Survival refresher training in the Phillipines in the area that the 2nd unit for that movie was filming parts of it. Even got drunk with some of the crew later on.

Oh Boy . . . sapphire for $1300. Sapphire should start in their watches at $300. Especially when you can get sapphire on a Chinese special for less than 100.
The specs are perfection. I'm going to wait for the price to come down on these, which it probably will by next year, and I'll get one. Probably the olive one.

How did you pay import tax in America? I've never heard of that ever. I've ordered several JDM seikos out of Japan and never once paid import tax, sometimes not even regular tax.
Depends on how the seller declares the value of the package contents. Usually Gnomon is really good about declaring the value less than the price that would require import fees.
At the price point I'd personally save a bit longer and get a tudor... At least it won't have any alignment issues...... Shocking Quality control from seiko. At the price point charged if sure as hell want everything to line up as it should. My Samurai does at less than half the cost of the "willard"
I have a Hamilton pilot that I payed half of what I did for this Seiko and the Hamilton is way better. The funny thing is, I know I payed way more than I should have but I still love it. For me this is a very expensive watch but I know I can wear it without anyone else knowing it's an expensive watch. I don't know, it's strange but I have zero regrets getting ripped off. hahaha.
Mine is just a smidge off too from centering. But I don’t care because I love this watch. It’s my favorite Seiko. Looks great on a marinemaster rubber strap.
Misaligned bezel as usual, pin and collar band for $1300 is not for me. Note they are now under $1000, but that still seems inflated. Collected Seikos for years but now feel current prices are way off. Too bad- Interesting good looking watch.

Very cool watch. I love the movie, so I want the watch. But viewed dispassionately, that’s a lot of money for that watch. There are Swiss brands where you could do better for your money.
Jared Hill I’m just thinking in terms of a value for money proposition. The Sinn has a much nicer bracelet and better movement. I really want to like that Seiko but I’m having a hard time justifying that price.
Went in to look at the SPB149 and this was there. Gotta say, it's not on my hit list anymore. Other than the case shape being distinctly different to a regular turtle, bevelled sapphire and the nicer hands, nothing much else was compelling about it. And certainly not for the price. I'd rather just mod a 777 TBH.
JDM is the way to go. My 151 model had "Case Made In China" and the chinese factory did not even bother to regulate, did it myself and saw the china inscription inside the case back. Dial says "Japan 6R35 " So mine is a china factory product with a Japanese movement apparently. Very disappointed and would never recommend any Seiko that is not JDM.
Having the indices on the dial instead of the chapter ring, crowds the face and ruins the aesthetics of the watch. Although, it is certainly cheaper to make the watch that way!
Cushion cases, be it turtle or this one or anything in between- sites nothing for me. Don't find this to be an attractive watch at all. Take into account the steep price plus customs duty- absolutely not worth it.
Overpriced and can't even get the bezel to align. You can get a microbrand that charges you $500 for a better movement, perfect alignment, better bracelet. This is not worth the price.
I don’t get the hype surrounding non-Grand Seiko watches. It’s really not that great of a value proposition. I’d much rather save and get something really nice.

It's a timing bezel. Mine is never lined up with 12 because I use it to time things..

Great review, really appreciate your comparison to the SKX009. I agree with your comments. The Willard is a very cool watch and parentage.
The clasp is very cheap, and my 12 o’clock marker is off. I expect better for this price.
My 100 dollar Steeldive has better specs and built quality.
It's so over priced. Micro brands are selling better spec watches at a third of the price

I agree. Maybe helps add an extra 10-15% of resistance to scratches at most. Lol

The 6105 is a special watch & given the price of the reissues it would be worth trying to find an original in good condition, the prices will only go up in the long run, cheers

I just sent my original 6105 that I bought in 1976 that I forgot I still had. It has seen way better days. The crystal was scratched so bad it looked like it was sand blasted. It’s got some minor dings on the case and the lume is pretty much dead. The outer bezel is faded and scratched a bit. I don’t know if I should have Seiko USA do anything other than a service and replace the crystal for fear of ruining its value as an original. Everyone talks about “patina” so I don’t know. I’m seriously considering buying one of these new ones. I haven’t seen the US market models any less expensive than the Japanese market models. Not sure what to do.
I had a few questions that I was hoping you might be able to answer:
- How does it feel to unscrew and thread the crown?
-How does it feel on wrist? Is it "top heavy"?
-I recently purchased a brand new seiko SRP 777 (turtle), how does this watch compare in wearing?

I don't trust the 6r35. I've the new alpinist and ran great for first month but now it's definitely on high end of spec running at least 25sec fast per day. Every few days I've to set the time back few minutes. Not happy.
That's why Quartz took over back in the day. Mechanical never kept spot on time. Even on the high end, they were all hit and miss.
It's too much and too early, couldn't it be magnetised ?
@@SSN515 Nah, you can get an ETA that will keep great time, there is no excuse for a watch that cost $1000 to gain 25 seconds a day.
Same Shane, I have the SPB125J1. Nice sumo varient but the 6R35 runs up to 25 secs fast a day. Someone else suggested to me that it may need demagnitising but for a watch of that age. I think as a new(ish) movement Seiko just haven't quite got it right yet. Hopefully subsequent varients of the movement will address this!

A lot of guys wore them in the Nam and post Nam era. That's why the movie advisors had "Willard" wearing one. BTW, I was doing some Jungle Warfare/Survival refresher training in the Phillipines in the area that the 2nd unit for that movie was filming parts of it. Even got drunk with some of the crew later on.

is the protective finish basically like Sinn tegmenting process ? on the buckle like the case and bracelet as that is the place that gets scratched the most

How did you pay import tax in America? I've never heard of that ever. I've ordered several JDM seikos out of Japan and never once paid import tax, sometimes not even regular tax.
Import duties are applied to items over $800.
Depends on how the seller declares the value of the package contents. Usually Gnomon is really good about declaring the value less than the price that would require import fees.

At the price point I'd personally save a bit longer and get a tudor... At least it won't have any alignment issues...... Shocking Quality control from seiko. At the price point charged if sure as hell want everything to line up as it should. My Samurai does at less than half the cost of the "willard"

I have a Hamilton pilot that I payed half of what I did for this Seiko and the Hamilton is way better. The funny thing is, I know I payed way more than I should have but I still love it. For me this is a very expensive watch but I know I can wear it without anyone else knowing it's an expensive watch. I don't know, it's strange but I have zero regrets getting ripped off. hahaha.

Misaligned bezel as usual, pin and collar band for $1300 is not for me. Note they are now under $1000, but that still seems inflated. Collected Seikos for years but now feel current prices are way off. Too bad-

The Tuna has a jeweled quartz movement that is very accurate and can be serviced. The 6r movements are not reliable.

If the turtle is 300-400. This watch should be in the 500-800 range. Above that and most people will just buy the turtle and pass on this one.
Very cool watch. I love the movie, so I want the watch. But viewed dispassionately, that’s a lot of money for that watch. There are Swiss brands where you could do better for your money.

gew1898 you’ll pay over $1600 for a new 104 on bracelet and Sinn sometimes has bezel alignment issues too. Well maybe not to the level a Seiko does...
Jared Hill I’m just thinking in terms of a value for money proposition. The Sinn has a much nicer bracelet and better movement. I really want to like that Seiko but I’m having a hard time justifying that price.

Went in to look at the SPB149 and this was there. Gotta say, it's not on my hit list anymore. Other than the case shape being distinctly different to a regular turtle, bevelled sapphire and the nicer hands, nothing much else was compelling about it. And certainly not for the price. I'd rather just mod a 777 TBH.

JDM is the way to go. My 151 model had "Case Made In China" and the chinese factory did not even bother to regulate, did it myself and saw the china inscription inside the case back. Dial says "Japan 6R35 " So mine is a china factory product with a Japanese movement apparently. Very disappointed and would never recommend any Seiko that is not JDM.

Having the indices on the dial instead of the chapter ring, crowds the face and ruins the aesthetics of the watch. Although, it is certainly cheaper to make the watch that way!
Cushion cases, be it turtle or this one or anything in between- sites nothing for me. Don't find this to be an attractive watch at all. Take into account the steep price plus customs duty- absolutely not worth it.
I like cushion cases in a 100 dollar max Vostok 710 ministry special edition kind of way.

Overpriced and can't even get the bezel to align. You can get a microbrand that charges you $500 for a better movement, perfect alignment, better bracelet. This is not worth the price.

I don’t get the hype surrounding non-Grand Seiko watches. It’s really not that great of a value proposition. I’d much rather save and get something really nice.
