Today I talk about the Daniel Hertz Eva S50 Audio System created by Mark Levinson's new brand. This is a full system that has synergy for days as it was designed to all work together from the amp, the dac, the speakers and cables.
I talk about the history of Mark Levinson as well as my experience with the Eva S50 "Starter" system from Daniel Hertz. I spent 200 hours listening and am ready to spill the beans about this forward future way of thinking about HiFi Audio.
I hope you enjoy!

A system for life! (or at least until next week)
The sickness is real haha. But seriously I tell my customers once you find a system that sounds amazing to you, just enjoy it and stick with it. There will always be something better. Just be happy with what you got unless you are looking for something different. If you cant settle then I suggest you come to our AA meetings. (Audioaholics Anonymous) LOL First Saturday of every month.
While the plastic casework is a factor, the main reason the amp weighs so little is because it has no iron in it. It uses a switch mode power supply so there's no power transformer, and it has no output transformers. It's also a cool running class D chip amp, so it doesn't require big heat sinks.
As always, each new product is marvellous and magical, better than the last one reviewed. The wonderful Eversolo is a thing of prehistoric past now 😂
Everwhat?
That's a nice looking piece. I love that the case is not made of metal. Let's embrace some different thinking.
NVA here in the UK have being doing this for years! Since their implementation in fact.
Tweeter made of hummingbird taints. Beautiful system
Nice try. Everyone knows hummingbirds don't have taints. :)
Possibly mentioned this before… I was close with Mark for a period of time when he was a customer of mine in NYC in the early 2000s. An incredibly charismatic guy. I even got a chance to get a personal demo at Red Rose from Mark prior to him becoming a buddy.
Mark Levinson original products in the early 70’s were great sounding for solid state - he did not design them - it was done by guru in Berkeley by John Curl !
The looks were beautiful and maybe Mark did that - of course the overall products were terrific at that time -even today they sound decent too !
Very collectable now
Can’t wait to see what system you pick for yourself
Interesting. Looks gorgeous. Would have liked to see the interior.
I've been waiting a long time for someone to review the Daniel Hertz line of equipment....thank you
Well heck, Lone Crow is only and hour away from my house! I cant wait to hear it! Cool review!
Im in Santa Rosa. I've been there its so 😎 🤙 🤘 ... they also have a Tannoy and Manley Neo Classic with a wiess dac that is Insane Insane Insane and amazing people, best I've heard anywhere for my tastes 👏.
Sorry , which system impressed you most at Lonecrow?
Thanks👍
Now this is a cool review, well done.
Wow! I achingly love this system. I’m very much considering this. I have ML equipment, Madrigal Audio Laboratories days. Daniel Hertz equipment being handmade in Switzerland and Italy…
Very nice information.. great 👍
Fantastic 👍👍
Nice to see that great HiFi isn’t always necessarily SKY HIGH HiFi .
Nice review and it looks like a great system. Being Swiss myself, I know that anything designed and or manufactured in Switzerland is going to be up to 50% more than even here in the US. Given that, I’d LOVE to check this system out!
Actually it was a misunderstanding. They are made in Italy. Sorry for the confusion.
Great review as always. Out of all the Dac’s that you have reviewed which one shares similarities to the Maria’s built in Dac?
Wow... just going on looks alone, that's a heck of a stunning set-up.
Another great wristwatch (I mean amp) to consider.
Can you give us the details of your next trial of Maria Amp with other speakers ... this will make my day ... many thanks. Mike😻
The amp can download dsp settings for particular speakers
Nice!
There was a Cello restaurant in Manhattan in the 90s with a listening room. Like many restaurants, it closed after 9/11.
Moved on from Pass Labs? This is very intriguing! Class D amplification?
I’m really considering the Weiss Dac how does it compared to Daniel hertz Dac built into the Maria? Looking for the master tape sound. Thanks for your time
Magnificent review. Waiting for your new reference system to be revealed. And eagerly waiting for you to review all the Daniel Hertz products. Maestro Mark Levinson is a true gem 💎 of a designer in our beloved industry and audiophiles around the world 🌎
Nice looking
Last time I checked, the Pass XA25 was your reference amp. Is it still the case, if not what is now ?
Will you list in the remarks the tracks you refer to in the review?
Any detail info about this chip, is it still from Intersil(Renesas)? If so, I don't think it(a $30 chip) deserves the hightlight in a $10K amp. This thing is kind of the PowerDAC design like the GAN1 peachtree.
How does the dac compare to the Weiss 204?
I suggest you to try the integrated amplifier Lavardin ISx Reference. You might be surprised...
This DHz amp is a true giant killer.
The Lavardin is a magnificent creature from France 🇫🇷
Lavardin, Lejonklou, LFD all great under the radar ss amps.
I assume you still have the Heritage Specials as it appears to be their stands?
Amazing speakers. Price is $20,000. Compared to the Buchardt 10th Anniversary speakers, are the Daniel Hertz speakers 4x better? Not trying be sassy, yet am genuinely curious.
Dude, the speakers alone are around 4k. The system is 13k
What about vinyl? Does the Maria convert it to digital?
Kim Cattrall love's Pass Labs!
🤣 OMG. Well, to be honest, technology is knowing/knowledge, magic is the absence of knowledge thus, believe, and believe is happening solely between your ears 😉
Please, don't tell us about remote controls interfering with the audio signal. Leaving out an RC is pretty sure for pure business reason. Nothing else. The same with taking plastic instead of metal. No, they didn't want it to be lighter 😉
Otherwise, very nice listening as usual 🙂
vs Sound kaos vox 3afw and enleum amp -23???
Can you still listen to old classic rock songs that aren’t the best recordings with this system? Or is it too transparent?
Thanks for the great videos.👍✌️
I personally have experience with this gear. I have the next system up with the Maria 200 and the Max speakers. Absolutely insane!!!! I listen to everything from Barbra Streisand to Slipnot. To answer your question YEEEEEES This smaller system is absolutely amazing with classic rock.
For the heart of a $10k system, I think a Hegel H120 integrated amplifier is very hard to beat at the moment.
Does not come close.
please interview Angus cloud
Ave Maria the song. Get it? :)
Never understood why an electronics has to be “magical”, try to advertise a Tv as “magical”, and see what happens.
It doesn't have to be. But it's much better if it is.
if you ask +$20k for a TV it must be magical too.
The sound of the electronics is magical. You've never heard anyone say that before about music? I've heard that term used in TV's before. When Plasma TV's first came out. People were blown away. Anything that is delightful to the ears and eyes can be described as magical lol ((Word Police!!))
I heard Maria, but the Mark Levinson M5 Telikos amp + M6 preamp has much better energy and more universal sound signature for my taste. Problem with perspex on Maria casing is that it scratches easily.... & is a dust magnet. (sonically M5L + M6L is the best, but rarely for sale, just like cello)
Dust your electronics regularly and stop letting your cat walk on your stereo lol
Is a purifi custom mod ?
Hey buddy. What's your favorite speakers nowadays?
I do not really have any all out faves these days. Some of the best I’ve heard have been talked about but honestly there are so many good sounding speakers out there, I like quite a few. Really all comes down to what kind of sound you are looking for. Right now I’m listening to this Eva system and it’s gonna be tough to send it back. Most impressive two way system I’ve heard to date. Notice I said “system” as when all together as designed it’s magical. I have not heard anything come close for even triple the price. I have a system setup here from emotiva that rocks but it’s not in the same ballpark for realism, goosebumps, clarity, imaging and tone. Not even close but I wouldn’t expect it to be. I have some speakers here from triangle that are quite nice as well, 40th anniversary models. The Buchardt A10”s are also fantastic but a warmer presentation. Can’t pick a fave these days as there are tons of great options. I just go with what moves me. Thanks.
What a wonderful response. Great!
Better than the Dynaudio Heritage?
What can we conclude? That we like to try and experiment with new stuff, therefore better to invest in a system with DSP capabilities and room correction and from time to time we can try new speakers , maybe amplifiers for new sensations.😂
Hifi Art 😊
love the biger sister of eva called Chiara have ribbon tweeter but 20k for a bookshelf speaker woud it beat sf homage guarnieri or focal diablo utopia evo
Sound Demo Posted, 3 Songs: ruclips.net/video/QD5tp7l7XBY/видео.html
Bit of shame you did not chcked internals - I am sure You would have changed opinion, because that amp internally looks like some teenage adventure in hifi from 90’. It’s just magic that it has no hum.
Italian amp? Swiss speakers?
Perfect.
You wonder why a competitor doesn’t take one of these and reverse engineer it to see what kind of a magic was put in it
A competitor would need the proprietary, custom made integrated audio chip whose design is owned by Daniel Hertz. Therefore, the chip manufacturer can only ship it to Daniel Hertz. This is a factor which drives up the cost per unit
Reverse engineering is common
were the markets involved have
demand for mass production/cloned performer per $.
High End is all about unique,
one of a kind, magical, mystical
Products and costumers.
Be blessed, healthy, free and prosper.
🎯👏👍🙏❤️
Bad choice of material for a high-end integrated. Metal is what the doctor always orders. No remote? - no go! Bummer because Mark is a genius.
whatever streamer you use has a volume control via an app. what's the issue?
@@bigjohn6887 - try that when listening to LP. Cheers!
@@spacejaime exactly
@@BobCoalWaternow if we can just come up with a remote control that takes the album out of the sleeve cleans it puts it on the turntable flipps it over and plays the other side. We won't ave to get up out of our chair. Lol
@@bigjohn6887 Getting out of my chair is not the problem, it’s getting out of the chair in time, I have neighbors which I like to respect, need to bring the volume down during loud bassy passages, my remote is never to far.
This is what you get when a musician builds a music system.
You never experienced a lightweight preamp, well, check the DNM plastic boxes, they are less than a pound and outperform anything on the planet - up to now, lets see and hear that Maria stuff.
"sometimes metal can interferes"!? - well (all) metal(s) always interferes with electric circuits.
If home theater is the application, projection best emulates a theatrical experience. A TV is still a TV, no matter how large. I don’t like a display that has 500-1000 Nits in a dark room. Too bright! Non light controlled room, great!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Woodstock was in 1969.
If you listen he built the stage mixer in 1968. Not sayin Woodstock was 1968
Please do a sound demo and play Ave Maria like @fletchermunson6225 pointed out
Sound demos are, in fact, senseless if you don't listen to the gear itself ☝🏼
