- Part 3 to the Astro van build journey!
In this video I got a whole lot of stuff done, in the last video I ripped out all of the previous build to start from scratch.
I started with some basic framing inside the van and slowly moved to installing the subfloor and then later in the video I got the actual flooring glued down and let me just say, it turned out awesome.
I got the flooring at Lowes including all of the framing plywood.
When you do your own flooring I recommend using flooring the "clips" together rather than the glue on type I used. Links provided below!
The ladder was made from 1" EMT conduit which you can buy at nearly any home improvement store or at any electrical supply house. You will need a 1" bender to make the bends I made, or some stores have pre-bent conduit you can buy.
I did not use a fancy welder for welding this. I simply used the cheapest welder from harbor freight available.
For the Framing I used 1in by 2in furring strips sold at most home improvement stores. These work great because they are light weight and easy to work with. To hold the framing down on the floor I used Liquid Nails. I would recommend putting something heavy on them for roughly 6-12 hours after installation.
I used 1 1/4" self tapping screws to hold the framing to the side of the van walls. If you take this route make sure to take caution when drilling to avoid going through the outside van walls!
If you have any questions or comments about the build feel free to ask away in the comments and I'll be sure to answer!

So inspirational and impressive! Wow. Look at you go.
Starting to follow today. You're doing an amazing job! Sending positive vibes and good luck from Brasil.
Thank you so much!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Man, that ladder turned out awesome! Nice work
Thank you very much!
You look like Mav
Yup
Great job. I love the size of the Chevy Astro Van.
Thank you! I agree, it’s prefect for getting around but big enough for travel
Very nice job 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
The way these vans leak, especially the dutch doors, i'd never glue down my floor. I put down plywood leaving the open spaces between the ribs to breathe. You gotta be able to get to the sheet metal floor to deal with the moisture and rust that WILL happen.
Bet those people looked everywhere for that wallet.vans looking good 👍
The owner was super excited to get it back, thank you!
After traveling in your van quite a bit, how happy are you with the insulation you put in the floor? Has it been sufficient? Do you wish you’d changed anything?
Yes I am very happy with the entire build, I would recommend doing tongue and grove flooring
Don't sell yourself short on the floor, it looks great!
Thank you so much!
OMG you are adorable! 😇😊
Thank you?
@@bgrace27 Yes! You're welcome! 🥰
What size wire did you use for the weld?
That’s an excellent question and honestly I don’t remember at all
