If your an African hearing this,we need to be the change we want to see.Not just our leaders but we the Great African people need to really change, love ourselves and aspire to greatness.Thanks to her for making the African continent proud.
Yeah-but the heat should never leave the asses of the government. African leaders need to stop leading their people to a dead-end. Just as the American government needs to stop leading its people to hate and death. WE the people of the United States? The people throughout Africa? And everywhere else? Need to let our governments know that they have no power. WE the people do.

Absolutely one of the best speakers I have heard yet. Let the world listen to this young woman. She is really amazingly well spoken, coherent and knowledgeable on world affairs. She has common sense and I just love her message to the world. Summed up beautifully. I am showing this to my class next year for an example of a great speech well delivered.

I, as an African from Eritrea, we have to stop being a puppet of western, we have to respect one another, we have to work hard to help our family not to go exile. Just imagine how many Africans are dying in Mediterranean Sea while trying reach Europe, what have our leaders done to stop it? How long are we going to suffer as a continent? What are we in search of solutions for our problems? Why do we have to leave for western countries for a better life? How long are we going to be the cheapest people on earth? The choice is still in our hands, if we are alive now. It’s time to work for unity and prosperity!

@@Autochthonous_Anarchist It's been awhile since I listened to this but I'm sure I had a list of things that prompted the statement. One of those things relates to your "nationality" partial. By definition she never clarified her nationality or spoke on any particular groups. She did as a lot of speakers do when speaking in lame-mans terms while particularly meaning a certain group within the group of darker-skinned people.
Further meaning the win-win results, she speaks of are worthy of the effort, but only puts a band-aide on a world issue reaching more levels than any one person has yet to influence to bring about real change. Without Alliances and Reparations, specific groups of our people will always be left out. You don't have to believe me. Look it up. # ados101

The colonialists really did a good job of dividing and conquering us in Africa. As a Nigerian living in Europe, who has also travelled extensively through Africa, I can relate very well to all she said.
I'm glad she mentioned the president of Ghana. We need more pan African and globally minded leaders like him now in Africa more than ever!

I'm a comic book writer with a few published works. I applied for a visa so I could attend a Comic Book Convention in the UK. It was declined because they concluded it was just an excuse to slip into their country as an illegal immigrant. Imagine a comic book author and fan not allowed to interact with other comic book authors and fans in the world. It is quite frustrating.

I can relate so well with her travel experience in Singapore.
I was to travel to Thailand as a delegate on Climate Action Forum representing my country Nigeria. At Bangkok airport, after the immigration personnel checked my passport and read out my name, he laughed and called two more of his colleagues.
I was then ushered to a room where I was being questioned. After that, my picture was taken, a biometric capturing was done, my return ticket was photocopied and it was written on my visa the exact date of entry and exit probably so that if left later, there might be a problem.
I felt initially confused and when i realized what happened, i felt really horrible.
I have left their country for them.
A basic human dignity by these Thai officials was lacking. Kindness was just all that was required.
This is so true I'm from RSA🇿🇦 and wanted to travel to neighboring country Namibia... the cost was ridiculous while going to London cost 3 times less

This is so apt and still true in 2020. Does anyone hear and do anything about these things. The world is such a small place now and technology limits the excuse for these things to still be rife in Africa. African leaders, in whatever capacity, please make changes. We don't expect western countries to treat us better than we are treated in our own home. If you tell your daughter that she is smart and beautiful from a young age. If you tell your son he is strong, intelligent, and teach him to be self reliant from a young age. With time all will admire that young man and woman's confidence and achievements. If we treat each other with respect and show the world we are worthy by treating ourselves with dignity, no one will be able to look down on us. Sustainable change always starts from within.
Such an articulate and beautiful young woman. We need more of our people involved.
There are many on the continent homeless and hungry. I am today trying to house and feed. Yes, they are educated, not indolent, just poor on the continent.
Lets get more involved in feeding and housing our people on the continent. That is a massive and much needed change.
I am an African born in America. Many of my ancestors died on the voyage here.
All of the wealthy people on earth, share some of those millions and billions with the poor, welfare poor and the working poor.
I have one particular young man stranded in Lagos hungry and homeless in August 2020. Where are the extended hands for him and others?
Do we continue pretending that we are blind and do not see?

No man is an island, no man stands alone. Separatism is divide and conquer. Unite all Africans regardless of where one is born. We are Africans first.

it's been quite some time since i last watched Ted Talk and Tedx. I don't know shy youtube recommended this on my timeline and i surely must thank the algorithm for such a wise decision. I cant have enough of this, i'm in tears.

Born in Haïti, Ethiopian background. Thank sister. I never knew we imposed those restrictions on one another. I do know what you say about "Africans on Africans' discrimination ". It hurts me most when it comes from our owns. As a US citizens I can travel Africa. I didn't know.

This is 2 years since this talk and I was pleasantly suprised when I visited Kenya that I did not need a visa to enter the country as a South African but would require to pay a visa fee as an America. I think that this is progress in the right direction.

she was amazing , she was able to open my eyes to see the difference of how the world views Africans and how Africans view themselves. being of African descent but of british born i was able to understand that people see you differently due to the privilege I have it hurts me to hear my family in Nigeria go through similar experiences to this and that coming to the uk is a stressful experience. I pray that maybe i could use the opportunities I have to make a change because this injustice can not last forever

The implications of this presentation are rich and extensive. Decolonisation starts with the African individual learning to approve self on an African basis(an African sense of self worth) rather than seek approval on Western terms. The African individual needs to be educated, to have awareness of his or her Africanness and of the space it has in this world so does all other ethnicities. This further progresses on to that African individuals together can bring liberty to each other if they so decide to work as a team. Such an idea was once dreamt of, and it can still be ignited ablaze. African leaders, all Africans should realise this and surely Africa will be great!

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has said that Africa’s peace building process cannot be achieved solely through external solutions and requires Africans to own the solutions;
“You _cannot import solutions from outside and impose them on people and expect them to work._ *It cannot.* I'm speaking from experience. There's no miracle performed in Rwanda. We understood that owning our problems is very important to us as Rwandans…we owned our solutions and were opened minded to other options but there's absolutely need to own the process.”
Ms. Adepo is a beautiful and articulate Nigerian, but I can't help to recognize she lives in London, the speech here is in Berlin, she's educated in the U.S., and the U.K. Why is she pontificating this message to Europeans...in Europe??

If you get approved for a Tedtalk, it's really based on timing and place and maybe there wasn't an opportunity at the moment. She could've had this talk in African countries too.

I always said to myself when I am faced with the idiotic and brainwashed immigration officer around the worl “ I wish if I could show this people how proud I am to be of an African origin and I wish there was a way to express and show them what I thought of them during those moments...wow!

Africa will never be one nation because it's a whole continent full of different peoples. Having more melanin doesn't make everyone the same. It's a very diverse continent culturally and genetically. So it's difficult to intergrate people who see each other as different.

OMG, you're describing the same frustration and anger I feel when I have to deal with Ghanaian officials. It's simply embarrassing that they can't do a simple thing, without overcomplicating things. 200 years back in time. My top 3 worst countries for airport is Israel, Germany and Ghana.

We need African history to be treating in every school especially the universities period
How does African history affect children in Canada, Australia, China or Russia?
Why would you spend money creating a curriculum that has no meaning or purpose in a child's and young adults education and life?
I should also note, that African history is taught in many universities, when it's relevant to the students major.

the visa story is just so so jarring and a constant wound for most of from African countries as we try to navigate the world. I cannot agree more on the shocking contempt with which we often treat each other versus the red carpet that White people are still given on the African continent. We need to wake wake wake UP real fast

i agree 1000% of what the eloquent speaker put to light. i would encourage African brothers and sisters to first and foremost love, learn and respect each other's culture, diversity, and history and perhaps prefer to travel and visit African countries as opposed to Europe and Americas. my favorite country to vacation is Rwanda where it remains the only country with free visa to Somali Passport holders. this matter should be discussed in dinner tables and classrooms alike as the speaker noted.

We deserve to be regarded with much respect and love as the westerners. I for a person loves to travel a lot but the so much immigration restrictions puts me off a lot. I’ll love to meet my fellow brothers and sisters in neighbouring African countries, learn their culture and gain more knowledge and broaden my perspective about Africa.

I would argue immigration, having Africans leave their countries is a way to keep us undeveloped..
That's the only way out but what if those come back or stay at home are never given the opportunity to realize their potentials. I have had the opportunity to a scholarship to study in a western country. I decided to go back home after my studies with no conditions attached but on my own accord and due to the love I have for my country. I want to use my knowledge and experience to contribute my quota in national development. I have been treated the most brutal way due to jealousy, tribalism, etc. I have been denied a position which was given to a lesser qualified individual because the boss is the same tribe as this person. While I still put up with all this rubbish, I still have an opportunity to travel out of this country if I wish but I believe God will fight this for me. I had the best of intentions when I left a much comfortable life in Europe to come back home. I love my country and no one will take that away from me. In a class of half Africans, it was only two of us who decided to go back to our countries. God bless Africa. Africa will rise once again!
