  • Learn how to make the Starbucks Chai Tea Latte at home with my simple and easy recipe! I tried out the Starbucks version, and was impressed by the spiciness of it! And I figured the right spice to add to recreate that flavor at home.
    And yes, I know that chai means tea so it's redundant to say chai tea. But that's how we say it where I'm from.
    HOW TO FROTH MILK WITHOUT A MACHINE:
    INGREDIENTS:
    2 chai tea bags
    1/2 cup boiling water
    2-6 teaspoons maple syrup or simple syrup
    3/4 cup whole milk or half and half
    CHAI CONCENTRATE VERSION:
    1/2 cup chai concentrate
    1 cup whole milk or half and half
    HOMEMADE CHAI CONCENTRATE:
    13 chai tea bags (or 13 tsp loose leaf chai tea)
    2 ½ cups boiling water
    2 tbsp + ½ tsp maple syrup
    1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
    Pour the boiling water into a heat proof measuring cup. Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea to the hot water. Cover and allow to steep for 5-10 minutes. The longer you steep it the more flavor will the extracted, but it will also be more bitter.
    Squeeze out the tea bags or strain the loose leaf tea out. Add the maple syrup and vanilla extract. Stir well. Pour into a storage container and store in the fridge once it's completely cooled.

    Thanks. Chai latte is my treat myself drink but not very often because it’s soooo much sugar. I’ve tried many times at home to recreate with tea bags and spices but never tried ginger. I will have to try this! I do enjoy the premade concentrate but the sugar content is definitely what keeps me from purchasing often.

    • @ButteredSideUp
      @ButteredSideUp  Год назад +1

      Yes, I love the spices, but it’s often way too sweet for me when I get it at a coffee shop! You can also purchase concentrates that aren’t sweetened, but I haven’t found one yet that’s fair trade/ethical/direct trade…

    My bloodwork just came back very high sugar!! Cholesterol& Triglycerides. I'm not overweight. Have to track sugar& fat intake now through Dec😢 Those concentrate drinks are high suger! Daily sugar intake for people should be 25-30Grams a DAY. McDonald's Medium frappes 114 GRAMS sugar!! Small have 97GRAMS!😮 Starbucks frappes small have 58GRAMS! I had a frappe every other day 10YRS. People, make your drinks at home. Look at labels, you'll be shocked sugar is in SO MUCH! You don't have to be overweight either, I'm active! The sugar added to our food causes poor kidney& liver functions! It's taken 2wks for me to get through the sugar cravings. Now eating a Mediterranean diet. Not to lose weight but to lower my double cholesterol level. Good luck!

    • @VmoneyV-ru9th
      @VmoneyV-ru9th 3 месяца назад

      Starbucks uses a proprietary Teavana concentrate for their Chai lattes. The Tazo stuff they sell to the masses is not the same.
      The amount of type of spicess, vanilla , etc etc used are completely different

    • @ButteredSideUp

      I personally prefer oat milk for a non-dairy milk, but I’m sure almond milk would work, especially if it’s advertised as a “barista” blend, or made specifically for lattes.

    • @D.Observer
      @D.Observer Год назад +4

      @@ButteredSideUp
      Usually when we say chai it simply means tea with milk instead of water
      When Spices come into the mix -> 'Masala' Chai
      Only South Indian Filter Kaapi ( the mother tongue effect seeps in and coffee becomes kaapi 😂) is known for strictly using frothed milk.
      When it comes to chai, froth/no froth is just an individual preference
      Edit : many languages are spoken across the country and chai is usually used among the hindi speaking demographics of the country, in other areas it's just called tea. 🤷 Traditionally tea is made with milk here probably that's why

    • @ButteredSideUp
      @ButteredSideUp  Год назад +2

      @@D.Observer Thanks for the clarification! Is there a specific term for tea without milk?
      So here we don't really have a special word for tea with milk. We just call it that: tea with milk added.
      A drink with frothed milk added would be a latte, which we borrowed from Italian and I'm sure we aren't using that word properly either. Some people might call it a latte even if the milk isn't frothed? For example, an iced latte that doesn't need to be frothed.
      English is weird and mixed up and such a mishmash. Chai has come to mean a tea (could be black, green, rooibos, etc.) with added spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, etc. Maybe we just dropped the "Masala" part? It can also mean the drink either with or without milk added. So it sounds like if we were going to shorten it, we should have kept "Masala" and not "Chai?"

      It’s not my favorite, but a lot of people love it or they’d take it off the menu! When I tried it I was expecting it to be sweet and bland, but it actually had a bit of spiciness which surprised me. It’s too sweet for me to enjoy it, though.
