- Learn how to make the Starbucks Chai Tea Latte at home with my simple and easy recipe! I tried out the Starbucks version, and was impressed by the spiciness of it! And I figured the right spice to add to recreate that flavor at home.
And yes, I know that chai means tea so it's redundant to say chai tea. But that's how we say it where I'm from.
HOW TO FROTH MILK WITHOUT A MACHINE:
INGREDIENTS:
2 chai tea bags
1/2 cup boiling water
2-6 teaspoons maple syrup or simple syrup
3/4 cup whole milk or half and half
CHAI CONCENTRATE VERSION:
1/2 cup chai concentrate
1 cup whole milk or half and half
HOMEMADE CHAI CONCENTRATE:
13 chai tea bags (or 13 tsp loose leaf chai tea)
2 ½ cups boiling water
2 tbsp + ½ tsp maple syrup
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
Pour the boiling water into a heat proof measuring cup. Add the tea bags or loose leaf tea to the hot water. Cover and allow to steep for 5-10 minutes. The longer you steep it the more flavor will the extracted, but it will also be more bitter.
Squeeze out the tea bags or strain the loose leaf tea out. Add the maple syrup and vanilla extract. Stir well. Pour into a storage container and store in the fridge once it's completely cooled.

I just tried out your recipe, and it’s amazing! Best chai latte I have ever made myself! I used 2 tablespoon of maple syrup this time but think I’ll go for 1 tablespoon next time!
Aw, that makes me happy! Glad you enjoyed!
my sister and I just made this and it's literally the best Chai we've have ever had! Thank you so much for this recipe!
You are spot on with the ginger! Good call.
I love how aesthetic this video is: it's just as cozy as the drink I was looking up how to make at home 🙂
Great vid! Thanks for the help.
This chia latte was Delicious!
Thank you so much for this recipe!
This is one of the best I’ve made, and I have made LOTS
this is so so cool, watching this video was a really nice experience i love everything about it thank you soooooo much
Great video! Thank you 🙏🏻
I am excited to try this, thank you! I had originally wondered why you didn't just use the Tazo Chai tea concentrate like Starbucks but then I bought it and realized how much sugar is in it and how unhealthy it was...thank you again for this healthier option!
I made this and it turned out so good!! Goodbye Starbucks, hellooo homemade chai lattes 😁
Love this
Hey I tried this recipe and it is delicious thank you for posting this!!!!
Great Video!!! Love the calm vibe, great footage and tips! I am not seeing the link you mentioned for various ways to froth milk without an espresso machine….
I want to thank you for always making health recipes for us weirdos out here lol. I need as much clean recipes in my life!
This made me So Happy! The last Chia i bought had a shot of ESPRESSO IN IT!😳
I make it with the spices myself and Darjeeling tea.
Thanks. Chai latte is my treat myself drink but not very often because it’s soooo much sugar. I’ve tried many times at home to recreate with tea bags and spices but never tried ginger. I will have to try this! I do enjoy the premade concentrate but the sugar content is definitely what keeps me from purchasing often.
Yes, I love the spices, but it’s often way too sweet for me when I get it at a coffee shop! You can also purchase concentrates that aren’t sweetened, but I haven’t found one yet that’s fair trade/ethical/direct trade…
Wow this is so cool! Jill never makes me anything at home 😢
😂😂😂 i came here to make my bf his latte🤣
Thx for the video. I find Agave makes it taste more like Starbucks.
Can you use sugar instead of maple syrup? Or is maple syrup better and adds a hint of taste. Because sugar would definitely be tasty too!
What brand tea bags would you recommend?
There is no link to the video on 8 ways to froth milk.
My bloodwork just came back very high sugar!! Cholesterol& Triglycerides. I'm not overweight. Have to track sugar& fat intake now through Dec😢 Those concentrate drinks are high suger! Daily sugar intake for people should be 25-30Grams a DAY. McDonald's Medium frappes 114 GRAMS sugar!! Small have 97GRAMS!😮 Starbucks frappes small have 58GRAMS! I had a frappe every other day 10YRS. People, make your drinks at home. Look at labels, you'll be shocked sugar is in SO MUCH! You don't have to be overweight either, I'm active! The sugar added to our food causes poor kidney& liver functions! It's taken 2wks for me to get through the sugar cravings. Now eating a Mediterranean diet. Not to lose weight but to lower my double cholesterol level. Good luck!
Have you ever heard of Earth Echo Foods. Their drink mixes are delicious and very healthy. They have a Cacao Bliss which is a healthy hot cocoa, and they have a Chai Bliss which is like a chai latte.
No, I haven't heard of that brand before! I'll have to check them out...
I’ve always wondered, why is it controversial to squeeze tea bags? I am going to try your recipe later this week!
Apparently it makes your tea more bitter?
Can you substitute soy milk for cow milk?
abhi ye sikhaygi hume chai banana🙂
❤
♡
Starbucks just uses Tazo products so you can legit just buy that and season to taste.
I was under the impression that now they use Teavana? Which I’m sure tastes great, I just personally prefer the ethics of different companies RN! 😊
Starbucks uses a proprietary Teavana concentrate for their Chai lattes. The Tazo stuff they sell to the masses is not the same.
The amount of type of spicess, vanilla , etc etc used are completely different
Can you use almond milk
I personally prefer oat milk for a non-dairy milk, but I’m sure almond milk would work, especially if it’s advertised as a “barista” blend, or made specifically for lattes.
Which brand of chai tea bags do you prefer?
I really like the Rishi Masala Chai and the Friendship Tea Decaf Chai.
@@ButteredSideUp awesome, thanks!
Do you know who Buttered Side Down is?
Yep. 😂
ginger is spicy?
It has a bite to it...and it is technically a spice....but it's not like chicken wing spicey lol.
you wrote tea twice chai means tea
ayyy you use a bezzera machine
Hey....not to be a hater but.... it is chai. Plain chai here in bangladeshi and our neighbouring country india. People pay so much for THIS tea?
Don't get me wrong. I like tea too. But 10 DOLLARS for a cup of tea??
Or probably try some Indian masala tea, you will never go back to any other tea let alone starbucks tea-tea😅😅 ( well that’s what it means when they say Chai-tea) how silly 🤦🏻♀️
@@S_mplyAlexthis guy bro
No cares girl
It's chai
Chai= tea with milk
Calling it Chai latte, chai tea just feels wrong !
Lol, I knew I’d get a comment like this. Hope you feel smart!
@@ButteredSideUp sorry but I'm from India and Chai is a Hindi word. I'm correcting someone on proper usage of a word that isn't from their language
@@D.Observer Cool! So how would you distinguish between a drink that has chai spices but doesn't have milk added, a drink that has chai spices and has milk added, and a drink that has chai spices and has frothed milk added?
@@ButteredSideUp
Usually when we say chai it simply means tea with milk instead of water
When Spices come into the mix -> 'Masala' Chai
Only South Indian Filter Kaapi ( the mother tongue effect seeps in and coffee becomes kaapi 😂) is known for strictly using frothed milk.
When it comes to chai, froth/no froth is just an individual preference
Edit : many languages are spoken across the country and chai is usually used among the hindi speaking demographics of the country, in other areas it's just called tea. 🤷 Traditionally tea is made with milk here probably that's why
@@D.Observer Thanks for the clarification! Is there a specific term for tea without milk?
So here we don't really have a special word for tea with milk. We just call it that: tea with milk added.
A drink with frothed milk added would be a latte, which we borrowed from Italian and I'm sure we aren't using that word properly either. Some people might call it a latte even if the milk isn't frothed? For example, an iced latte that doesn't need to be frothed.
English is weird and mixed up and such a mishmash. Chai has come to mean a tea (could be black, green, rooibos, etc.) with added spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, etc. Maybe we just dropped the "Masala" part? It can also mean the drink either with or without milk added. So it sounds like if we were going to shorten it, we should have kept "Masala" and not "Chai?"
starbucks chai is a poor excuse for chai tea
It’s not my favorite, but a lot of people love it or they’d take it off the menu! When I tried it I was expecting it to be sweet and bland, but it actually had a bit of spiciness which surprised me. It’s too sweet for me to enjoy it, though.
What did you just say?! CHAI TEA CHAI MEANS TEA BRO YOUR SAYING TEA TEA would I ask you a coffee with some cream cream?
