    Hi everyone and Welcome Back to My Bucolic Life Channel. Meet my new sewing project.
    This week I am creating a very cute wrap dress that to me feels like it could have stepped out of the 1940's. I've used a fun floral cotton, as you do, and really like how it turned out.
    Enjoy the process!
    ~Marie

    It definitely looks like a 1940's style dress. When I was young I had a real 1940's blouse that was very like the bodice on this dress. Very becoming style that looks excellent on you.

    I love a collar, they can be a very flattering feature and for my body type it seems to suit me, so I always try to find tops and dresses with collars - I have never sewn a collar but would like to try at some point!

    That's so cute! You have a great eye for picking fabric. I gave in to all the social media hubbub over the DVF wrap dress, and bought that pattern. I'm a fan of long sleeves, and I was drawn to the cuff. The DVF bust darts, however, are in the side seams, so lowering them will be different for me. Curses gravity!

    That fabric is beautiful 😻 The whole dart position change thing is 🤯 but I’m no garment maker.😂 Apparently, according to those I’ve watched for years, many RUclips sew-along people have the fabric shortage issue at one time or another. I think it’s probably a “real world problem,” so demonstrating a method for saving the project is quite helpful. The clips for flexing and use of pinking shears is also very helpful for people who didn’t grow up with a seamstress in the family, unlike yours truly. Thanks for sharing your experience and your lovely new dress. 🎉

    I love the dress 1940 is my favorite era. About the darts not matching, top to skirt. I believe that when you did the bust adjustment and you moved the dart down you also moved it to the left. At that time ( I know you didn't hear me) I tried to tell you to switch to the middle dart instead of the one designed for your size. That would have made up the quarter inch difference.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  2 месяца назад

      I would think so, but it was actually the back darts that weren't lining up. Which was odd. Oh well, the dress still turned out cute.

    I was taught to wash and dry on hot as well. I want my prewash to be the roughest my fabric is going to be handled and I want ALL the shrink out of it. I’ve been looked at like I have two heads when I suggest pre-washing like that. It seems the current advice is to wash the way you will wash the finished garment. That’s fine, as far as it goes, but I want to make sure there are no shrinkage surprises if my clothes are poorly handled in the laundry in the future.

    Marie, maybe I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it have been simpler to just drop the dart point by one inch and redraw the dart legs to that point, not changing anything else on the bodice piece? That is, assuming the bodice fits you otherwise.

    • @mybucoliclife
      @mybucoliclife  4 месяца назад +3

      Sure, if all I needed was to lower the bust. I wanted to add some extra fullness below to compensate for a fuller bust though so adding the extra length was needed for me. But each body is different. :)

      @@mybucoliclifeI was concerned with the way you had dropped the dart point as it added 1” to the bottom of the bodice. I see it is not an issue for you. I have dropped the dart point by cutting between dart and under arm. For me, it works better as I do need the extra length in the torso. With sewing, there is usually more than one way to do things! Beautiful dress! Fantastic on you!
