I am a Nigerian living and working in the UK so I will give my perspective on some points: 1. Cost of Living: Try Switzerland or Scandinavia. 2. Unstable weather: It rains more in NY than London..Yes the UK has more grey days but that's no different to other oceanic regions (including Northern France, Germany, Scandinavia, Russia, etc). Also the UK winter are not as cold and summers are not as unbearable. 3. Food: You do NOT have to eat British foods. 4. Make friends: It takes a bit of time but you can get one. Overall I have loved my experience in the UK and would not trade it for anything else. 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
If you set your mind to make it by setting your sight in the UK, it's very possible and quite easy. What is a absolute necessity, when coming to the UK and planning to live there for at least the next 15 years, then a job is essential! With rent a room style in London, one can easily save £200 from each month of wages and continue saving with that plan for the next 10 years, then you can ens up with close to 10 tens of thousands of pounds.
My advice: Unless you want to wake up in Accident and Emergency room, don't go out on late saturday evening and early Sunday morning. Don't look at an obviously drunk British person directly in the eye. You might end up in A&E as well. Oh, and don't give change to the homeless people. Ever. That's what food banks are for. If you want to meet a genuinely friendly British person first ask them if they believe in Jesus. If they say 'yes' there's a pretty good chance there going to be the most hospitable type of person you'll met on this here island. If they say no chances are you'll only ever be an amicable acquaintance. Or they might be stuck up snobs. Either way just don't bother carrying the relationship further than you have to.
@@originalunoriginal4055 This is not seth your mind. You guys need to travel to Canada or USA and see things differently. UK just got a name to convince people, Her citizens are suffering, phone bills, electricity bills, gasoline prices is just skyrocketing, tiny roads and rooms not mentioned low pay for her citizens.
It's not too bad at all - Europe on the doorstep, food is quite cheap compared to other countries, interest rates have been low for years, most people are helpful and polite. I suppose all countries have their problems but looking at the big picture I don't think British life is bad at all - think positive.
Are you high? UK is in pretty bad shape, people are rude, prices are crazy, weather is shit, food is bad quality, police is agressive. Bro UK is pretty shitty country
@@VoyShtheP Make your own mind up, I love my life here, I love my country and the Royals. Maybe loose some of that negativity out of your head and you would realise we have quite a good life here in the UK compared to other countries.
I am a British citizen resident but I want to leave England 🏴 United Kingdom 🇬🇧 because I have had enough I feel I don’t belong in my own country anymore it’s time I found a brighter future
I have watched the entire video.....still would love to be there and stay for the remaining part of my life . I ha e some uncanny attraction for the country. Wish God listens to my prayers . I call it my dream destination.
I live in Oman. No tax, energy @ £5.0 a month. I can fill up my Porsche for about £25. No crime and the sun shines every day and the streets are safe 24/7. You can buy a huge villa here and get permanent residency for the average price of a three bed semi. Pool, beach, golf course, marina, restaurants at your door. Loads of my neighbours are Europeans, Canadians, Romanians, Chinese etc.
I have lived in the uk for 15 years…i went to uni to study medicine then stayed on and worked there for years. I mainly only have good memories. Maybe I was lucky? But uni experience was good…my training and work as a doctor went very well…my salary was at least good..yes I paid taxes but they were reasonable and you got something in return. My work collègues and neighbours were super nice and helpful, I lived in a nice cul du sac in a posh area and had bought my house for a reasonable mortgage. I had enough disposable income to live comfortably and save! Again, I could be the exception to the rule but that’s my experience ! I didn’t mind the cost of living, the narrow roads or the small houses (mine was big!)..even food was great as you can easily find your favorite restaurants/food items..etc There are only two points that I agree on; the terrible weather and the difficulty to make friends. What’s worse than the bad gloomy rainy days is the difficulty to plan your life around the ever changing weather conditions; one day is sunny and gorgeous so you assume the following days will be the same and that summer is here to stay; WRONG!!! It can be windy, rainy and even cold literally the next day! As for making friends, I have made lots of good relationships but only four friendships, only two of whom were « white British ». Personally, I think the only reason is their personality and it has got nothing to do with racism or discrimination etc. To summarize, I loved everything about the UK apart from weather. And even though I am an Arab with olive Mediterranean skin, I tan almost everyday now back home in the sun, and this is due to years of sun deprivation 😭😭
Well your case is not at least the 50% most of people living in London from another countries are not that living well like you. Personally I would not like to live in London, too big city to live in. I much prefer small village as I am currently living in
Sounds like this was some years ago. Housing has become extortionate. I went to uni in London in the late 90s. It was affordable. I left London in 2016 as I was worse off as a professional in 2016 than I had been as a student in 97. That's insane. Thank G for WFH. I find that much of the UK is quite expensive to rent compared with other European countries outside of the capital/s. Buying seems to be expensive everywhere since the bank and credit industry bailouts/£££ printing. But rent is high in the UK compared with most
You are right about the dark sides of living in Britain but having migrated and lived here for the last 42 years I have no regrets. To be fair, there are pros and cons in every country, whether developed or underdeveloped. I say this because previously I lived in India and Tanzania.
@@originalunoriginal4055 Switzerland has one of the highest migration rates among its citizens... it's as Deborah has mentioned... they are being ignored.
Britain is only a small country around 900 miles long, with lots of history and town and cities dating back centuries consider this when yo speak of small homes ! Also we do not have big heads like the Americans who think their country is the only country in the world or the best !
Why so angry?! The people from the US aren't saying they're better than you. I can tell though you believe you think you are though. You've taken this too personally. Hahaha.
@@jessicamartin787 Uhh, pretty sure they do, they are still so proud of the American revolution, the Boston massacre was accidental since a fire was happening down the road, someone shouts fire, soldiers shoot, arguably this is what caused the revolution. The world would be a completely different place if that house wasn’t on fire. Europeans would still have an empire Germany would probably rule over France etc etc etc
We are better, our nurses and workers in generally better paid. We live in nice spacious homes. People here don't live by the millions on benefits. Sorry we are. I love London though
That the best you can come up with? Travelled to numerous countries around the world and really it's hard to beat. My favourite is the "unstable" weather - would that be the lack of hurricanes, monsoons, snowstorms and droughts that make it unstable? By the way the cars are small because the roads are small. Just like the rest of Europe where the roads were built when we had horses and carriages. Think I'll stay here thanks.
hah, completely agree! I feel fortunate to live in a place that doesn't have extreme weather. I lived in florida for a brief moment and compared to that, the uk's weather is just fine!
We can get destructive weather in the UK (European windstorms are one of the most costly insured losses historically), but it is never on the same level as the devestation in some other countries which often don't have the infrastructure and money to recover properly.
The narrow roads are very often due to the fact that they were built for horse and cart many centuries ago and cannot be widened. I bet the TV license is a shock for many people coming to live here from other countries.
Just a few points from an Indian -- when you land in Heathrow you can breath freedom/ there is so much talk about racism, but during my short stay in London there was not even an unsavoury incident/ roads in London are narrow, yet at many places the pavements from both sides of a road would narrow the road further to help pedestrians. That tells how the priorities are perfect in the UK/ many would say London is the best place on earth. They are not far wrong. Guess, the Brits have a habit of complaining too much. :)
London is not racist because is a mix city but if you go to smaller towns where is more retire people they're more racist . But like you say England is a nice place to live but the English will complain about anything. I have live here for 14 years and I really like
@@sidonio123 ok, how diverse is any big city in India,Pakistan,Iran,Iraq, Japan, China,Mexico,Paraguay, Uruguay, any country that has a strong ethnicity so why can’t people from England have identity?
English reserve only applies to England. This man is classing the whole of the UK as England. I wonder if he has ever been outside of London. He forgot to mention that it is so bad that we are over-run with immigrants desperate to live here. They are actually queuing up in Calais. Every country has its drawbacks and this is a very narrow not very informed commentary.
We are not overrun with immigrants, non-British born people made up about 14% of the population in 2019. That is just right wing tabloid bullshit. If you look at how many refugees are coming in, you will see that the UK takes less (much less) than several other European countries.
Nor me. Fifty years in the UK. I've lived in America, and they're nice people, but I found the people of the UK to be friendly, balance and all-round good eggs. 😁😁
A lot of sweeping generalisations and a lot of stereotypes used. However, I agree a lot of our social life revolves around alcohol but there are many who find other things to do. Uk is expensive, rent and mortgages a rip off, insurance a rip off. Health care is free and universal so much cheaper than the USA. Weather is varied and a lot of people enjoy the change in seasons. I personally would prefer a warmer climate. The food is now very cosmopolitan and is not bland at all. Most brits are not painfully reserved, quite the opposite. The houses are small generally and so are some of the roads. The creators of the video should visit the uk.
All what he mentioned are true, it is the most difficult place to live.He forgot to mention phone which is also expensive, Even if you have a friend living in UK, they hate to receive visitors. When living in Toronto, I had a conversation with a lady who was visiting from UK.she looked so frail in appearance. When asked why she said life in UK is so tough. I will never visit there. I enjoy living in US.

I lived abroad for 10 years. I returned to the small town I was from and was treated like a complete outsider. Bearing in mind my friends had moved on and when I spoke to people they would say 'youre not from around here'. It felt rather frosty. I had lost my local accent so I stuck out like a sore thumb.
I feel your pain. I am treated the same way. They look at me as an outsider even though I know everything about the place I was born. The accent throws them off
I am true English and I have seen the changes in this country and for the worse no jobs hard to see doctor everything has gone up and the mane thing theres to many people comeing to this country and it's over populated now
I am here in the UK since 2008,i did not regret the move at all . I have rebuilt my life. What is the best for me is that you can be in a fairly good position without diplome and on good salary. I got used to the weather. Yes house are tiny but relatively cheap to run/affordable(i live in Coventry). Roads are not wide enough but never you mind. Summers are not that hot but come on you can always go to Spain for a week or two.
There is a lot of poverty in the UK The weather is depressing. Making friends here isn’t easy at all. It’s towns are overcrowded and the road network is inadequate. Energy costs are very high. The job market is very competitive. Housing at the lower end is bad.
@ericthiel4053 I live in the South of US and I have amazing neighbors. My neighbor from across the street took me daily to therapy , and to grocery store for months after an operation and couldn’t get myself anywhere. Her boyfriend, who lived next door to her mowed and did all my yard work for free. I consider them my friends. I am very good friends with one of my next door neighbors. We go places , concerts , new restaurants together. My next door neighbor on the other side, she and I share stuff like recipes and advice on pet care. I’m in my 50’s and have great neighbor friends.
After living in Japan the language barrier can be tough being a newer foreigner as most locals don't speak English and are much more reserved than the people in the UK. When you ride the train or bus there is no talking loudly or even on a cell phone. The homes are much much smaller in Japan than UK some with only one room (some places have public showers/baths that your home may not have) so no I would actually have it easier living in the UK by comparison as it adopts more of the western culture standard I'm more familiar with. Now there are many more positives I do miss about Japan like the food, the futuristic high tech stuff, and actually made some friends there. I actually plan on buying a 2nd home in the UK because my wife is from there so it would be like having the best of both worlds (US and UK). I absolutely love the UK. Any major city you go to you'll find the dark rough parts in my case Chicago's Southside were cross fire shootings are common without warning. Regardless of location I only look at the person as a human being and their character. I try to make an effort to assimilate the best I can even though it's not perfect. I've learned a lot after traveling. What I've learned after visiting the UK for the first is that all dialect is not the same through out the UK and the local culture just like in the states the difference between NYC and Mississippi is day and night. There is no one size fits all when traveling to most countries. Every area may be more different than the other good or bad.
Been in Britain 20 yrs now from Africa, life is too short to be concerned about things I cannot change such as inequality, racism and even the stigma of just being foreign, Over the years I have realised that many Britons have now accepted the reality of living with foreigners whilst others are still struggling with it.
Others are programmed by the Daily Mail to hate people from overseas, because, well it's tribalism isn't it? Got to pit subsections of the population against each other, that way they can't unite and fight against those really responsible for societal problems.
The word unstable is ridiculous that suggests significant and serious weather, which you would just actually use the word changeable. As in the sun may come and later on it rains. The weather is actually relatively stable as there virtually no hurricanes, let alone tornados or cyclones. As to some of the others they all seem to apply to any developed country students drink shock horror, rent can be expensive especially in a huge world city like London.
I agree with small houses and roads but that’s about it. Pretty much everything else I can relate to here in Atlantic Canada. It’s not that bad there. I found people very friendly and helpful and food in pubs especially excellent. If you stay out of London, prices are pretty comparable to major places in Canada. Weather is also not that bad. It rains more here where I live than there and also warm mild winters there where spring starts in February/March . Things don’t start growing here until May. Pros and cons to every place.
I'm an Iranian who lived in Iran for majority of my life. I lived in Uk for 5 years and most things you mentioned I've experienced and understand them. However, most british people have no understanding of living conditions in other countries. In terms of inequality as long as salaries are concerned it's fairly equal. For example in Iran Doctors earn literally 100 TIMES the salary of a nurse which definitely isn't the case here. Also, even though cost of living is high majority have high buying powers. I don't think most people have problem putting food on the table at least and can even save for purchases and travel, where as in Iran at least 40% of employed people cannot even afford proper food with the salary. This is also besides political freedom and freedom to practice religion and believes which we all know is not possible in MANY countries. Even though I experienced racism here and there most british people are quite educated on Islam and cultural and ethnic diversities and tbh they're not THAT judgmental.
yes, but.... The video narrator sounded North American. And most of it has no public transport. IF comparing with other European countries, you'd be right
I'm British I live in the US. I was last there 5 years ago and my transportation cost was 56 pounds per week. There's no way transportation will cost me that much in NJ I love visiting but everything costs more than the US.
Being a UK resident all of my life I can fully confirm the information in this video to be absolutely laughable at best! Yes, we have a small minority who like to binge drink, we even have a totally random weather system…But the other 80% of the ‘views’ mentioned in this ‘informative production’ are clearly based on none-factual research conducted by someone who doesn’t even reside in the United Kingdom!
Came here to write something similar. This guy has obviously never stepped foot on British soil. Most of what was said was laughable and not factual. I call bullshit.
I’m born and bred in the U.K. and would agree with a lot: inequality, unseasoned food, shit roads, small houses. And compared to the majority of the global population, we are pretty aloof… yeh, it’s shit here!!!
Hmmm, rose-coloured glasses, much? It's completely accurate! I'm a migrant, and I can confirm the difficulty of coping with all this grows after the first few years of focusing on the positives. Houses, roads are tiny and it is super-difficult to make real friends, even if you're a white-arse English speaking person with a 'nice' middleclass job where you meet lots of people IN COMPARISON WITH OTHER COUNTRIES.
@@quixotiq - Why do you think it’s so difficult to make real friends in England (or the U.K.)? Do you think it’s because people in the U.K. are shallow and lack depth? Before Covid, I was in London twice a year to work. I've always found Brits to be quite friendly but, say, in a pub it's best if you start a conversation with them. They can seemingly act cold but they all open up and act friendly.

As a Brit there is the Island mentality with a distorted sense of nationalism that yearns back to its Empire through rose tinted spectacles. Culminating in it giving up the benefits of being a member of the largest trading block in the world with all the benefit of freedom of goods and movement across Europe. Short sighted lunacy that conjures up anti European sentiment and makes it the pariah of Europe.A one great country now reduced to insignificance in world affairs.
That is certainly one way to look at it, if you are a self hating leftist. I am an American, but I would suggest that perhaps a sensible majority of British people wished to keep their sovereignty and democracy, rather than be ruled by unelected technocrats in Brussels. A wise choice, and certainly Britain's glorious history and world dominating culture gave it the confidence to be the first European country to escape from the undemocratic clutches of the EU. Cheers.

Binge drinking can happen anywhere. It does not take much effort to season your foods. Brits are very friendly. You clearly have not researched many areas of the UK to come up with your “dark” sides.
In Britain we have the best availability of foreign foods in the world. Indian, Chinese, African, Italian, Greek, Turkish, and more are widely available and of high quality in restaurants and takeaways.
Having lived in the US and the UK I find the UK much more preferred. What about the positives such as multiculturalism, low racism, healthcare, welfare state, etc which are all better than the US. To say the dark side makes it sound like hell on earth! Also lack of guns, low murder rate, low rate of police murdering people, low rate of incarcerate innocent people, lack of fat people, no TV adverts every 5mins, etc
Near impossible to find a find here in Manchester, most people could care less on what u gave to say if it personal. I'm American been here near 2 years. I want New York back.
One thing that SUCKS about the UK - the constant negativity, people whinge CONSTANTLY, always making negative comments, being judgmental, i hate it lol
Most of what you mentioned are not "dark" sides. Its only the high rent and tv license that are annoying, everything else is not that bad. Im an arab who lived in the UK and now im back in my country to be close to my parents but if it werent for the money I would have stayed there forever, I love the UK ♥

@@robertlawson4127 Look at a map with regard to latitude. Canada doesn't belong with those other countries because it is much further south. Thats why depression is a massive think in UK, we just don't get warm weather and sunlight. Not to mention taxation through the roof and poor prospects these days.

Lets face it, most of Britain is rough as f##k except for those posh select areas. Like Tonbridge Wells or Bath. The rest of us fight and squabble together, trying to live against the odds.
You could put a series together on this subject in London alone. In the run up to Christmas there was a murder in Peckham. I turned on the TV Boxing Day and a murder in Newham followed by another in Croydon the following day.
South London is notorious for murders. I was south of the river in 2008 and you could cut the tension like a knife and we were only near the Tate Modern and London Eye.
@Tim Pullen A friend of mine who is South African told me many terrible statistics about SA but when the chips were down in the pandemic he said he didn’t want to die in the UK and returned to SA yet when we first met many years ago one the reasons he moved out was because Joburg was getting too crazy. Lived in Uk for 6 year and i can confirm - it’s all true. I have been in a few other European countries and survival in UK was the hardest…or…let’s rephrase it…UK Is the only country in Europe where I had to SURVIVE instead of living. As much as I love the culture (including binge drinking and food) it’s turning into an economic clusterfuck. And it’s a big shame.
I spent most of my life in Britain before moving to Spain. Cost of living is bad, but it's not as bad as other countries, true. The issue is that - in most cases - rent and public transport costs are not proportionate to the average salary. The weather is objectively grim but personally, I didn't have much of a problem with it. What I did have a major problem with, was dirt: most British towns are not clean at all, especially in certain areas. That adds up with the size of your standard house, which is tiny and (often) the materials used are not up to the standards of a first world country. Dirt, exposed wheelie bins and small houses do not create a nice environment to live in. Another thing that used to bug me quite a bit: roads. The quality of motorways is shocking, both in terms of asphalt and in terms of road sings and safety. They are free though, that needs to be taken into account. Also, patchy roadworks do not help create nice looking streets in the town centres. The NHS is OK, but nowhere near the quality of the health care systems in Italy and Spain, for example, where hospitals and clinics are actually clean and more often than not, well taken care of. Lastly: British people should remember that while everyone is welcome, Britain belongs to the British. It does not belong to external people who - with all due respect - are used to much lower standard of cleanness, infrastructures, health care and so on. Having said this, I will never feel teh cultural affinity I feel with the UK with any other country. So, Hail Britain 🇬🇧 But please make an effort to better yourself in the years to come
Great video,I was an international student in uk a decade back, wish there was a video like this before I left to uk and I saw it and had brains to understand it
okay living in Britain . has a student its fun and you do meet lot of students and get a room that shared not expensive. Moving to Britain from any other country is quite challenging. always make sure you find a accommodation before entering the uk. never trust you family iif they in uk already. they don't have time for or a accommodation. unless you have it in writing. London is a multicultural city where you find all sort of people and can make friends quickly. you will find all nationality food mostly Indian and Turkish. doted every where.. British people believe in humanity and government is always supporting the people not like other countries. like any other country there is problems but not that bad otherwise the police will carry a gun which they don't. I lived here nearly all my life London. I love it . Don't listen to much to videos . best places is more up south of England and wales. I love Ireland and wales great places to visit and live
Very disappointing video. Sorry to say that this is a very shallow perspective Maybe the American commentator would like to highlight the " darker " side of life in the US..... such as gun crime or widespread homelessness .
When people eat junk foods and become obese they have all kinds of health problems and they struggle to walk and breath, they die young to me that is a dark side, because all they need to do is eat healthy foods. When people think going out and getting drunk to have fun when some don't even know what they are doing apart for vomiting and damaging their health. Is the dark side to me. Living in cold houses when the weather is nice outside getting vitamin D deficiency which affects your health and doesn't go away by sitting in the sun , having to take medication for the rest of your life because it's affected your bones is the dark side to me. I could go on, and on.
@@AnnaMaria-po5mk No we're not really to be honest. Those things you mentioned would be be described as dark sides of many places in europe. Besides, my inital comment was mostly based on parts where they mentioned the small roads and houses which are hardly dramatic enough to be called dark sides. They're more of an inconvenience to people visiting. I wasn't thinking on the grand scale of what you seemed to bring up. Saying stuff like 'the weather is unstable' then talking about just the rain? When there are places that have much less stable weather conditions?? A bit underwhelming. Thats all I meant.
Culture is almost same as here in NZ specially drinking and unreliable weather. You mentioned houses are small but i’ve been looking at listings around UK and houses there are way bigger than houses here specially outside London.
A guy with a US accent saying you might be too fat to fit into UK doors - god, that absolutely killed me :D This video is correct about the accommodation cost, but overall is quite shallow though. For example NHS is ignored in the inequality section, as well as the fact that UK houses many cuisines.
I think stabilization is key at this point as how south korea finance minister is doing to the intricate level if each house holds shopping list to survive, then sustain and then health care. Lot to be learnt from german interst rates for loans.
I’ve been living in the UK for 7 years and the only point I find true is the unstable weather. Not necessarily bad one. But very unstable. I don’t find all the rest true and relatable.

One thing the guy didn't mention was the completely nuts expensive price of rail travel. I can fly to Italy or Ireland and back 4 times for the price that a return train ticket costs from Manchester to London.
Another American who equates Britain/UK/England to London. There are trains going to many parts of the UK - take one to experience a wider knowledge. No we are not perfect by a long stretch but how about: "The number of killings in the U.S. soared in 2020, jumping nearly 30% since 2019 for the largest single-year increase on record, according to the FBI." 42.01 Homicides per million - UK is 11.68 per million.
The only things that are really a downside are the small houses, and well, the small houses. Maybe if you are from the EU the perspective may be different. But coming from just about anywhere else you won't get in cheap, and it won't be easy. So the cost of living should not be a problem if you could qualify and afford to move to the UK. One thing, I had to look it up now. Here is the list of countries that do have an exchange agreement with the UK allowing you to just exchange your driver's license in the UK if you live in the UK for more than 185 days a year. Andorra, Australia, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Japan, Monaco, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Republic of North Macedonia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, and Zimbabwe.
Yes, difficult to strike up a conversation, but in the 60s 70s and 80s, even the 90s. Things were very different. I think the food has been adulterated??
Immediately I disagree with your first one (cost of living). I lived in a few countries and cost of living compared to average wages in the UK is lower than all the countries I've been to
I want to move from America to England 😂 Definitely lower cost per living, but I agree with the low salaries. From my perspective it seems like most careers start out at £22,000-£25,000 whereas in the United States most jobs careers automatically start you at at around ~$50,000/year

No wonder most of them move to USA or Canada. Tiny roads, homes, and tiny vehicles. Please don't move over there.
Could say the same about a number of Northern European countries regarding the weather, struggling to pay rent on an average salary in large cities. But tell me where on earth or at least in a developed country do you not need car insurance to drive a car?
Car pools are a cheap way to drive. You don't pay to buy a car, insure it, MOT it, pay taxes on it or maintenance costs. You just pay to use the car on days when to want to use it and pay the price of those days. The other costs would just be part of the overheads that determine the daily cost of the car.
When I use to live there, I found that they thrived on Drama, if there was non they would make it, they would spread lies about you and tell all their friends and you would be on your own, UNTIL they found someone else and you would be allowed back into the circle. It was exhausting.
Toooòoooo many cars on the roads and public transport in the North is unreliable since Thatcher privatised it in the 1990s. London's public transport is much cheaper and more reliable by comparison. Not all English people will turn away from people to end a conversation, this was a wrong judgement to make. However, I have had complete strangers tell me their life stories whilst waiting for buses as some people will just talk none stop. English people seem to be kind and generous and friendly in the North, especially in Yorkshire.
Britain is much greener than many other countries in the world, with a rich variety of trees. We have the rain to thank for that. We live busy lives and don't usually have the luxury of spending a long time to make casual chat to complete strangers, whose backgrounds and motives are unknown to us. Most of us live in densely populated urban areas where you pass hundreds of people a day. How often can you say ' hello' to everyone you meet ? Our food isn't that bad ; we are European and spices do not grow here, so they are not in included in traditional recipes, but we have some good tasty savoury dishes like our roast dinners, pasties and pies and a huge variety of cheeses ( more than France ). Antonio Carlucci praised good Steak and Kidney pies. I for one, wouldn't want to eat spicy food every day and some don't like it at all. The worst thing is the increasing wealth disparity between the rich and poor ( Thatcher made it worse ) and the number of unsocialised people in the population from different racial backgrounds - not just native British.
Tom Nicholson This chap was definitely speaking from an African point of view when it came to obesity. He seems to think it's normal to be large but to say large people can not fit into our houses is ridiculous. I myself, to use correct English, am a fat bastard and I seem to be able to fit into most houses !!
Nice and informative. The other side of the fence is not necessarily greener. It is surprising that after taking all the wealth of India for 200 years, Britain is not on partition other major European countries. The present high GDP of UK is not matched by the standard of living as presented by this video. Dr Mohan Z Mani.India.
GB has a serious problem. That’s why most states don’t like GB •Pollution and the environment •Inequality, low pay and poverty •Inflation/ cost of living/ especially housing •unemployment and underemployment •Race relations •The Ageing population •Crime, law and order •Mental health - depression/ anxiety (/suicide) •Sexual inequalities •Drug and alcohol abuse •Lack of faith (trust) in government Immigration/ overpopulation
As an Australian, the fact the houses are small intrigues me. The look cozy and cute. I don't like large houses. I like that small cozy house. The car insurance is good, i like that. Means if someone does a hit and run on you, your covered. I dont mind having to pay for insurance to drive. As for the weather, I would rather it rain nearly every day then feel like burning to death constantly.
One very incorrect comment on this (although there are others) is no equal access to healthcare. We in the UK ALL have equal access to healthcare regardless of income, which is free at the point of use and includes; hospital, physician, specialist and mental health care. Not to mention free or heavily subsidised prescription costs which are around £9 ($12) regardless of the cost of the medication! It's paid for by taxation (which is cheaper than health insurance and is without co-pays and exclusions). Unlike in the US where there is no universal healthcare and the most common reason for bankruptcy is the cost of healthcare! The US also has some of the worst healthcare outcomes even though the cost of healthcare in the US is so expensive, and shorter life expectancies compared to the UK.
I am a Nigerian living and working in the UK so I will give my perspective on some points:
Swiss cost of living is extremely high, but you get paid far better in Switzerland than in the UK.

If you want to meet a genuinely friendly British person first ask them if they believe in Jesus. If they say 'yes' there's a pretty good chance there going to be the most hospitable type of person you'll met on this here island.

There are only two points that I agree on; the terrible weather and the difficulty to make friends.

I actually plan on buying a 2nd home in the UK because my wife is from there so it would be like having the best of both worlds (US and UK). I absolutely love the UK.
Cheers.

Grew up in the UK and have since moved to a warmer country. Whenever I go back the worst part for me is the short days during winter months. Really effects me mentally, especially if the weather is cold and rainy. Dark by 3.30pm, just awful.

I lived in South Africa, similar population size. There are around 65 murders EVERY DAY in South Africa.
@Tim Pullen A friend of mine who is South African told me many terrible statistics about SA but when the chips were down in the pandemic he said he didn’t want to die in the UK and returned to SA yet when we first met many years ago one the reasons he moved out was because Joburg was getting too crazy.

Sorry to say that this is a very shallow perspective
Maybe the American commentator would like to highlight the " darker " side of life in the US..... such as gun crime or widespread homelessness .
Calling some these traits 'dark sides' seems a bit dramatic to me...
I agree, how ignorant to assume that bland food, and small homes and roads are small. Some are thousands of years old! Common ignorance of an American

@@tiredgremlin6315 why are we not talking about the dark sides to Britain?
@@AnnaMaria-po5mk No we're not really to be honest. Those things you mentioned would be be described as dark sides of many places in europe. Besides, my inital comment was mostly based on parts where they mentioned the small roads and houses which are hardly dramatic enough to be called dark sides. They're more of an inconvenience to people visiting. I wasn't thinking on the grand scale of what you seemed to bring up. Saying stuff like 'the weather is unstable' then talking about just the rain? We who live here call it `Rip-Off Britain` for a reason.
I’ve been living in the UK for 7 years and the only point I find true is the unstable weather. Not necessarily bad one. But very unstable. I don’t find all the rest true and relatable.

Born and bred there but after 55 yrs of living there and working hard for nothing i have left for more sunny climate and better life , i don't miss that place one bit , UK ? were the hell is that ? 😂😂😂😂😂
Probably is Australia ?

Malta... not that you are allowed to have no insurance... just nobody does. Nobody cares over there.
Car pools are a cheap way to drive. You don't pay to buy a car, insure it, MOT it, pay taxes on it or maintenance costs. You just pay to use the car on days when to want to use it and pay the price of those days. The other costs would just be part of the overheads that determine the daily cost of the car.

Lose weight so you can fit in the tiny houses. Excellent advice.
